Trying to figure out book title

Hello!

I read a book, probably last year, and I really liked it, and now I can't figure out what it was called.

It is a western sci-fi book that starts off with about 12 outlaws crossing the desert to a small western town, and then it changes to the main character getting mugged and then jay walking and thrown in jail. And then he steals a boatship that duplicates and runs to this planet with the western town.

The girl from him childhood lives here now and he tries to impress her. And saves the town from the outlaws.

I'm really really sure this is a book but also second guessing myself and thinking it might be a movie. Any help would be great! Thank you!

Erika, I get images in my head when I read too and sometimes have a hard time remembering if it was a book or a movie, lol!
Unfortunately, this specific plot doesn't ring a bell. It sounds a lot like Firefly, but with enough unique details that I am fairly certain it isn't. It sounds like a good read, though. If you figure it out, let us know!
