Shomeret | 1494 comments Well, here we are almost halfway through the month. It's flown by, but I had to catch up with a post that time traveled into December. It was a blog tour post scheduled for today. So now I can finally post my November reads.

1)The Heartless City by Andrea Berthot (YA alternate historical science fiction) Source: Author for review Started: 10/31 Finished: 11/9

Why Read: This is an expansion on the concept of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In an alternate 1903 London is overrun with monstrous Hydes. I was interested in what sounded like a very unusual female protagonist.

Comments: Since the streets are so unsafe, women are afraid to leave home. Iris isn't afraid. That's because she can do things that no one else can do. Her goal is to restore normalcy to London, but there are powerful people who want the crisis to continue. This is the story of how Iris and her friends successfully challenged a truly hellish status quo. Rating B+ For my review see http://wwwbookbabe.blogspot.com/2015/...

2)The Legend of Mickey Tusslerby Frank Nappi (historical baseball fiction) Source: Amazon Started: 11/2 Finished: 11/5

Why Read: This UOOOR read the second book in the series first. I liked it very much, so I decided that I needed to get the background on the characters. The Mickey Tussler series centers on an autistic pitcher who faces prejudice and other difficulties.

Comments: I learned about the past of Mickey's mother and what she had to overcome. This is a darker novel than the second book, but a good read. Rating B See my review at http://shomeretmasked.blogspot.com/20...

3)Daughter of Sand and Stone by Libbie Hawker (historical fiction) Source: Net Galley for blog tour Started: 11/9 Finished: 11/24

Why Read: The Warrior Queen Zenobia is the focus of this novel. She is one of my favorite women in history. So when I got a chance to participate in the blog tour for this book I jumped at the chance.

Comments: Yes, this is the time traveling review that caused me to postpone posting my November reads. I loved it until I got to the ending which I thought was out of character. Rating B+ See my review at http://shomeretmasked.blogspot.com/20...

To Be Continued...

Ann (annrumsey) | 16986 comments These first three are all rather unique, and they were pretty good from the sound of them, especially the YA alternative Jekyll and Hyde, with the strong female lead. Good group, Shomeret,
