Ria (ban1chka) | 4 comments Hello, fellow readers.
I need some help. For my English class I'm supposed to give a presentation about three fantasy books/series of my choice, and I've decided to talk about the Discworld series. So, here's my problem: First, I was thinking of making the presentation as interactive as possible, so I want to make a few short games and quizzes, but I can't come up with anything Discworld-related which would be appropriate for people who are really really new to the series. And second, I think it would be great if I could read something, because Terry Pratchett's writing is one of the best assets of the books. I can't decide what to read, though, so if you could tell me your favourite scenes or ones you think best represent the spirit and characters of the Discowrld, I would be eternally grateful. Anything would be of help, really.

PS. I'm not sure this is the best place to ask this sort of thing, I apologise if it's not. I'm just really desperate.

Kaya Fletcher I think Terry Pratchett's humor in his writing is one of my favorite elements, that's something I would discuss.

Julia McCahill | 2 comments Definitely read or reread The Color of Magic, the first book in the Discworld series. It gives you the context for everything that follows. It's really just marvelous how Terry Pratchett not only invents a world, he invents a universe. Maybe you could pick out the two or three key characters and have people role-play them. Yes, T.P.'s humor is amazing, and also is descriptive powers. He really puts you into a scene.

Ria (ban1chka) | 4 comments Thanks to both of you.
I just want to mention that when I said "I want to read something", I meant "read something to the class". The prologue to The Colour of Magic is perfect, but the language is too complicated and I'm afraid most of my classmates wouldn't understand it.

Sarah "Pippy" (pippyx) | 12 comments I had a mock English exam paper which had a excerpt from Mort, It was where he was waiting in Sheepridge for the apprentice fair. I didn't know what the book was nor did I find out until many years later, I did always wonder what book it was from (Google was not around then) I was presented with a copy of Mort and once I started reading it I couldn't believe my luck in finally getting to know how the story would play out. Thus began my love affair with Discworld.

So because of this I would suggest reading that and continuing with a couple of the Death books from the series.
