I found it quite interesting with Nixon's tremendous depth of knowledge of foreign policy then and compared it to now. Then Carter was weak like Obama is now and the Soviet Union expanded Tremendously. It is just like we are seeing with Putin trying to resurrect the old Soviet Empire. Carter was successful in brokering a Mid-East peace between Israel and Egypt, Obama was a total failure with his leading from behind approach in trying to do something similar. Nixon opened China to trade with the west and with it drove an economic wedge between the Soviet Union and the "People's Republic of China". It shows the differences in attitude where the Chinese allowed some economic incentives for the people where the Soviets didn't allow any. The Chinese economy grew at an excellent rate whereas the Soviet Economy remained stagnant.
