Fictionophile (fictionophile) | 38 comments When there is a door, a house, a gate, or a foggy moor, the book is one I will pick up.
What entices you? What cover art guarantees that you will read the blurb?
For example.... these covers are ones which I would be attracted to:
A Darker Side (A Jill Kennedy and DCI Max Trentham Mystery #2) by Shirley Wells The Vault (Inspector Wexford, #23) by Ruth Rendell The House at Sea's End by Elly Griffiths

David Freas (quillracer) | 2954 comments I don't buy any book based on the cover. I shop from a list I take with me and check the blurb. If I look at the cover at all, it's just to confirm the title and author.

If there is something creepy or scary on the cover, I will definitely pick it up. I will also pick it up if there is a bargain price sticker on the front.

Bonnie (kentuckybonnie) | 17 comments I agree with Andrea - if I don't know the book or author the cover will pull me in, if its visually strong, something intriguing....nothing muddy or too gorey or bland... However.... having said that, these days that takes a backseat to online reviews and GR or Amazon reader ratings and recommendations. I'm more focused these days on my researched TBR list instead of impulse shopping on site.

Rhian (rhianlovesbooksx1f4d6) | 352 comments I've noticed that about 75% of books I buy have a black or dark cover so when I hit the charity shops for bargain I check them out 1st

Anthony Biondi | 17 comments I usually gravitate to graphically gripping cover layouts (couldn't think of a G word for cover). Doesn't have to be flashy, just well designed. In fact, that's how I buy most of my books. I find a good cover, read the jacket and begin my analysis towards purchase.

Beth | 28 comments A dark or black cover, particularly contrasted with a brighter (red maybe, orange or yellow or something like that) generally catches my eye. Won't buy it purely based on that, but they do grab me.

I also won't pick up anything if it is in a pastel shade (pink, lilac, yellow etc) as romance novels make me want to vomit :D

???!!! | 28 comments Fr some reason I get attracted to titles with "cold" "dark", or some kind of water like "sea" "river" "lake". Along with a creepy image would usually get me. I'll check the book out, not necessary buy them of course.

There is one book that comes to mind when I think about covers and that's Chill Factor by Sandra Brown. The dust jacket for the hardcover was clear with a colored print in certain parts and the actual book had a picture, also. When the dust jacket was on the book, all the images of both went together to make another scene. I thought it was so cool that I bought the book, which I ended up loving. It introduced me to an author I may never have tried before. Have bought several of hers since then.
