As if I didn't have enough challenges to keep up with in this group, I also joined a couple of other challenge groups - I must be crazy! Honestly, the only way I can even begin to keep up with it is by recapping at the end of the month, and then figuring out how many books I need to read to keep on track.

I decided to not participate in the April and May monthly challenges because things were getting way out of hand. I'm also starting a new job tomorrow, and it's going to impact the amount of time I have to read for awhile.

June reading plans

I'm taking a different tactic on my reading plans for June. I have a new job, and MUCH less time to read, so I'm going to concentrate more on specific books for challenges with a defined time limit, rather than challenges across the board, and also books for book clubs. I'm also declaring a temporary moratorium on signing up for monthly and quarterly challenges.

Book club reads -
Not the NY Times book club (for 6/26) - Delicious!
Sagamore Hills (for 7/5) - No Biking in the House without a Helmet by Melissa Fay Greene

Personal challenges:
10 books for 140 book personal reading goal

Books for group challenges:
NOS4A2 (Book Riot, WRC TBR, CCC Scrabble)
A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier (Around the World in Books, Recommended by Readers, CCC Candyland)
The Road from Gap Creek (Randomizer)
The King of Taksim Square (Around the World in Books, WRC TBR)
The Other Story (Randomizer, CCC Scrabble)
The Speechwriter: A Brief Education in Politics (Randomizer, From Fiction to Reality)
Life Among Giants (Randomizer)
A Fine Balance (Around the World in Books, Recommended by Readers, Popsugar, CCC Help me decide) currently reading
The Master's Muse (Randomizer, CCC Help me decide)
Coincidence (Randomizer, Around the World in Books)

Challenges to concentrate on for additional books
Randomizer
Listopia (need one book)
Recommended by Readers (need one book)

ebooks on hold:
The Silkworm (audio-DeKalb)
Lamb (Denver) Every year
A Tale for the Time Being (Denver) I-Spy

Susan C (sacorwin) | 906 comments CCC SHRINK THAT TBR
DURATION: July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017

We all have TBR lists, and while some are miles long, others aren’t quite so bad. This challenge is intended to help us reduce our Goodreads TBR list; if you complete all of the tasks, you will have read 40 books. For this challenge, only books that are on your Goodreads TBR list will count. If you have multiple GR TBR lists, you may use any of those lists -- but you must use just one list for the entire challenge! Otherwise, the usual rules apply.

You can do the tasks in any order, but remember: your TBR list will change as the year progresses, so do NOT plan out all of your books at the beginning of the challenge. Wait until just before you're ready to complete a task to choose which book/s you'll read!

PLEASE NOTE: Each task asks you to sort your TBR list in a different way. Please read carefully!

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

1. Read three books from series on your Goodreads TBR list that you have started and not finished. Books can be from the same series or from different series. Tell us the series.
Destroyer Angel Anna Pigeon series read 9/17/2016
*
*

✓ 2. Read two books from your TBR list that you own – print books only please!
NOTE: If you don't own ANY print books, you may use e-books, audiobooks or library books that are on your TBR for this task.
Fighting Westway: Environmental Law, Citizen Activism, and the Regulatory War That Transformed New York City read 11/24/2016
The Echo Maker read 12/9/2016

3. Read two books from your TBR list that will help with two different, difficult-to-finish challenges. (Like an ABC challenge for which you still need Q, U, & X). Tell us which challenge.
The Underdogs Disney challenge - need to spell out "New Orleans Square" read 12/19/2016
*

✓ 4. Read three books from your TBR list that are by new-to-you authors.
The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz read 9/24/2016
A Good Hard Look by Ann Napolitano read 10/16/2016
My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante read 10/18/2016

5. Read two books from your TBR list that a friend, co-worker or family member has recommended to you. Tell us who recommended them.
*
*

6. Open your TBR list and sort by date added. Make a note of the number of books on your to-read list. Divide that number in half (if you come up with a fraction, round up), and read the book that corresponds to that number.
EXAMPLE: If I have 450 books on my to-read list, the halfway point would be book #225, so I would read book #225 on my to-read list.
Note: If your "halfway" book is in the middle of a series and you’re a read-in-order person (like me!), you may read the next book from that series instead of your halfway book. Also, if you aren’t able to obtain a copy of your halfway book, you may read one up or one down from your halfway point.
*

✓ 7. Set your TBR list to show 75 books per page, and sort by Date Added, newest to oldest. Read two books from the first page of that list. Tell us when they were added.
✓ Page 1 - The Last Girls added 6/26/16 read 8/28/2016
✓ Page 1 - Reading Lolita in Tehran added 4/10/16 read 9/5/2016

✓ 8. Set your TBR list to show 20 books per page, and sort by Date Added, oldest to newest. Read one book from the first page of that list. Tell us when it was added.
Provenance: How a Con Man and a Forger Rewrote the History of Modern Art added 4/9/2012 read 9/25/2016

✓ 9. Set your TBR list to show 30 books per page, and sort by author, A-Z. Read one book from the first page of that list.
Lucky Us read 8/22/2016

✓ 10. Set your TBR list to show 40 books per page, and sort by author, Z-A. Read one book from the first page of that list.
Ali in Wonderland read 8/14/2016

✓ 11. Set your TBR list to show 50 books per page, and sort by number of pages, shortest to longest. (If Goodreads does not list the number of pages for some of your books, you can use the page count found elsewhere – the author’s or publisher’s website, B&N, amazon, etc.) Read two books from the first page of that list (must be over 150 pages long). Tell us how many pages.
Someone 232 pages read 8/15/2016
A Wrinkle in Time 211 pages read 8/24/2016

✓ 12. Set your Goodreads TBR list to show 100 books per page. Sort by publication date, newest to oldest.
Read two books from the first page AND one book from the last page of that list (or last two pages, if there are less than 30 books on the last page). Tell us when they were published.
✓ Page 1 - The Long and Faraway Gone published 2/10/15 read 7/23/2016
✓ Page 1 - Someone Else's Love Story published 11/19/2013 read 7/24/2016
✓ Last page - Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal published 3/1/2002 read 8/11/2016

✓ 13. Set your TBR to show 75 books per page, and sort by average rating, high to low. Read two books from the first page of that list. Tell us the ratings.
Nobody's Fool average rating 4.13 read 9/10/2016
The Class of '65: A Student, a Divided Town, and the Long Road to Forgiveness average rating 4.38 read 9/21/2016

✓ 14. Set your Goodreads TBR list to show 100 books per page and sort by number of ratings. Read two books from the first page AND two books from the last page of that list.
✓ Page 1 - Not My Father's Son 17,202 ratings read 8/8/2016
✓ Page 1 - The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden read 8/21/2016
✓ Last page - The Master's Muse read 8/3/2016
✓ Last page - Love Wins: The Lovers and Lawyers Who Fought the Landmark Case for Marriage Equality read 9/30/2016

✓ 15. Set your Goodreads TBR list to show 50 books per page, then choose Random in the Sort menu. Read Read two books from the first page AND two books from the last page of that list.

Jackie B. - Death by Tsundoku (reiwing2040) | 1343 comments Susan-- you are completely crushing it! I'm really impressed with the number of challenges you are involved in, and the number of challenges you have completed. Do you ever have time to read a book that isn't part of a challenge?

Susan C (sacorwin) | 906 comments Jackie B. wrote: "Susan-- you are completely crushing it! I'm really impressed with the number of challenges you are involved in, and the number of challenges you have completed. Do you ever have time to read a book..."

I completely over-extended myself on challenges this year, to the point that it's really starting to stress me out. I started a new job in May, and I don't have nearly as much time to read as I did when I signed up for most of them.

I'm thinking that I need to lower my goal on some of the yearly challenges (like Popsugar and Book Riot) so that I actually can read some books just because I want to, rather than always looking to see if it fits into a challenge (so, the answer to your question is very rarely...)

Step Four: Read that book then go to its Homepage and start all over again.
Step Five: Continue the chain until you complete your level.

Special Circumstances
*If you find a series book on one of the lists you may read any number in the series.
*If one of your chosen books is only on the one list you found it on, you can choose another book from that list OR add the book you read to another appropriate list making sure it meets the criteria of the list and choose your next book from that list.
