The Parlor PI's discussion
This n' That, Misc. Topics. Catch All Drawer.

Thanks, Jill! :-) Nicole, there should be a post somewhere in these threads that introduces The Den. It's as Jill so aptly and kindly stated. Last book that posted was All Things/Cease To Appear. I believe I posted a link for an accompanying video.
Anyway, The Den is open all day, all night. No need to vote on titles. Just post one you may be interested in and anyone who wants to join in, reading and chatting are welcomed to. The threads are kept around so they can be joined anytime.

Are we starting Pumpkin Picking? I have the book and also understand that the author is joining us.
PI's. we're facing Matthew now and prepping for the storm. I'll probably be off line for a few so if you can start a Pumpkin thread, post and keep discussion going, that would be great. When I return, I'll send author the link so she can participate. I'll chime in when I can but right now we've tons of things to do before hurricane lands.
Be good, stay safe, send prayers. ;-) Later!

I have no idea!! I just got another ARC from Lotta Smith and the review is due on the 15th! Not to mention the one due the 19th! I guess I'm not sleeping until Christmas!!

Wow Nicole! You'll be reading until your eyeballs dry up! LOL, good for you for getting a bunch of ARC's to read. I got one once and it was a lot of fun I thought.
Thanks for note of concern, Alastair. We were biting nails for a good while but thankfully we just got wind, rain, some power outage. I appreciate it. ;-)
Photos wanted: PI's if you have a nice autumn, Halloween pic you'd like to share on The Parlor home page, send it to me...guess posted here would be fine. However, they need to be a larger photo to fit masthead requirements over 1,000 by 1,000. Seems smaller pictures are not taking.
Coming around...s-l-o-w-l-y. Doc said I can still be counted amongst the living so there is that. lol Be back in a day to two. Thanks for keeping things going in The Parlor.
Wouldn't mind sneaking in another quick read for Halloween. I've lost the first half of October and hope to get in on some spirit before holiday is gone.

Yes, they are Jill. Would love to be able to dial back the month but alas, time waits for no one.
Pghfan, it was great seeing LM again. Hope he joins us.
Reconnected with a friend from the A&E days. I'm hoping he joins the PI's in The Parlor. Should a new member look in, feel free to welcome him. ;-)
If you're reading this, Welcome, LM!

Hi Tina! Its been a long, long time! I joined the PI In The Parlor group last night and I'm excited to take part in the discussions. I was shocked to find some members from the A&E days up here! I added you as a friend and wrote you a note as well so take a look and respond when you get the chance. Since the A&E boards closed I've been taking part on the message boards on www.agathachristie.com
Everyone, please meet LovesMysteries! He's a tried and true friend and well, lover of mysteries. A buddy we're glad to be able to add to the PI fold.
Glad you found us! You've been close by yet so far away. The end result is great though. We've all connected.
Any Halloween themed mysteries you're reading in this last part of October? Do Tell.
I see you're writing. That's great! Best!

Hi all! I'm glad to be here and I'm excited to take part in some exciting book discussions and hope to in the future host a book discussion like I used to on the A&E boards. Right now Tina, I'm currently reading

Tina, I've been returning back to my writing. I've been discouraged, frustrated lately with my writing. I compare myself to other great writers --especially Agatha Christie whose mysteries are just ingenious and I wish I could write mysteries and suspense stories like that. I've been working on a first draft of my story but I felt so frustrated I felt like giving up.
Thanks for the titles, LovesMysteries. Did you ever catch the movie version of (believe it was a Poirot) Halloween? I thought they did a fairly good job of it. I sure miss our old pal, HP!
Don't give up on the writing. Maybe have a trusted teacher, librarian or the like look at your work and see what they have to say. (You need not show all, just a few pages). Go from there.

I think Halloween Party was a good adaptation -- one of the better later Poirot films. I didn't care much for Appointment With Death, Murder on The Orient Express, The Mystery of the Blue Train and Cards On The Table which took a turn to for the worst towards the end. Though Halloween Party, the film, was set in the 30's, I would have loved to have seen what it would like in the 60's setting and that's one of the things I like about the later Poirot books. You have England that is changing and is so far removed from the early 30's and 40's setting. And I love hearing Agatha Christie's commentary on the 60's within the narrative. You hear her narrative of the changing culture, the men and women in that culture, and plots started to get darker.

I'd like a do over to the beginning of Summer please.
You got that right, Jill!

I did! It's been a long time since some of the members on the A&E dispersed and I was surprised to find a few of them right in this forum! I can't wait to partake in your future book discussions.

Ah! I always addressed you as LMS, that's why I was confused. Yes some of us from A&E reformed over here. I used to go by Snoops on A&E. Once again welcome in! Looking forward to your participation.

Hi J (aka "Snoops"), I remember you! Good to hear from you again! Do you know if 'Hamish' is on this forum?

If he is, he is using an assumed name and has not made his presence known. I doubt he is here- as I recall he left the old board in a bit of a huff.
Hamish did leave in a huff saying he had a big appointment in government pretty much inferring that he'd no time for us underlings.

If "Hamish" is involved in government stuff...maybe it's a good thing he didn't return LOL

That's a good one Nicole! I've won books before and they never sent them, then I get a thing from goodreads asking me how I liked it and to post my review and I've responded with I would love to post my review, but they didn't send me my copy. and then I get an ooooooppppppppps sorry response back.
LOL, Hamish was always trying to belittle the PI's yet he wouldn't leave. Then finally one day, Poof! Peace was restored to the land. LOL

That's a good one, Nicole. Circular staircase is still mentioned in some mystery movies. Good on you!
Thanks, Nicole!

Couldn't vote for many in this year's contest as I didn't read many in any of the categories. Was sorry not to see All Things Cease To Appear as I really liked this one. Watched the author interview and that alone drew me in. Had to get the book and read it quickly. Was a page turner. Loved it!
Any titles you PI's were sorry not to see making the list?

Anita has never seen Damian, her vampire servant, in such a state. The rising sun doesn’t usher in the peaceful death that he desperately needs. Instead, he’s being bombarded with violent nightmares and blood sweats.
And now, with Damian at his most vulnerable, Anita needs him the most. The vampire who created him, who subjected him to centuries of torture, might be losing control, allowing rogue vampires to run wild and break one of their kind’s few strict taboos.
Some say love is a great motivator, but hatred gets the job done, too. And when Anita joins forces with her friend Edward to stop the carnage, Damian will be at their side, even if it means traveling back to the land where all his nightmares spring from...a place that couldn’t be less welcoming to a vampire, an assassin, and a necromancer.
Ireland.
