I knew about the HP play because people mentioned it in several of my Facebook book groups. Also, 2 people at work had it and were reading it on their breaks. I'm not sure I'll read it since I'm not crazy about plays but the story does seem interesting.

Update on Kindle - Just received it today and am learning my way around. If I had to do it again I'd probably go w/next model up...think it's paperwhite? (Don't think they allow payments on that model). Anyway, where I like to sit and read is under a dimmer light and a lit screen would help. But in all, it's not a bad little device. Will serve the purpose and the price is right.

No, I don't thin k I'll read this one. Maybe look at the free pages on Ammy just to see how they handled it but probably that's as far as I'll go.
What a shame. Could've been a much welcomed Poirot to read and later adapt to film or author could've gone right to film with it. She would've even been well off just to pitch the play around to production companies and have them produce it. Doesn't make sense.

Allison, wonder how long it is? May have been easier to put it to play & then copyright it, schlep to production companies & make a play out of it. They could've worked it all day long with adaptation to novel, movie, mugs. lol

OHHOHOHOHOH SORRRRRRRRY!! I thought you were talking about the Harry Potter play when you said HP. I guess I was thinking about that because they were talking about it at work and in all of my Facebook groups. I apologize if I confused anyone!!
That's odd!! I just looked and they aren't showing up for me either. Should I do a test post to see if I can get a thread to show up?
Hey PI's, I was offered a free book from Author Barbara Venkataraman and while I had already scored the books I asked if she would be interested in being a Guest Author for our group. She said yes so I'm asking if you all would be interested in reading her work either in Sept or Oct? For something different would folks be up to reading her First 3 Books? Currently $2.99 for all 3 books: https://www.amazon.com/Jamie-Quinn-My...
Barbara says the first book is shorter with each book after getting a little bit longer. I thought it might be interesting to follow the characters progression from 1st mystery to 2nd and so on. We could see how the character and writing develops...anyway just an idea.
What say you PI's?
Allison, that was nice of her to offer to join us in The Parlor. We surely can put it to a vote. Might one of her books be an autumn theme? We usually do a steeped-in-fall pick for Sept./Oct. but if majority wants to do Jamie Quinn, it's K with me. And there's always side reads. We should be able to figure it out. ;-)
Thinking, thinking...Jamie Quinn for side read sounds doable.
PI's, Maybe in a few weeks we can start posting some autumn mystery titles? Yow-za.

I got that offer too but I haven't responded yet since I got swamped with other things. Did she offer a giveaway on your blog?? I actually created a FAcebook blog but I haven't really used it. Not sure if she's talking about that or just a general offer to everyone IF they have a blog. I don't have any followers so nobody would win LOL
In other news...I won another Goodreads Giveaway!! No Farm, No Fowl is the title. I hope I actually GET this one since I never received the one I won in June!
Bless your heart Nicole, lol, a blog? Me? No, I don't have a blog. I can barely keep up with just simply logging into sites, anything else is way too technical for me. I love the idea of a blog though...I'm impressed you have 1 set up for yourself, that's really cool. Congrats on winning a book! Sorry you didn't get the last one :( Jill, she offered me the 3 book set but I already had it, probably because you had recommended it to me at some point. Sounds like you have already read the first 3 in the series though? This may not work out for our group then...
Tina, I read the blurbs for the books and there's no mention of a timeframe (Summer, Winter, etc) so I'm not sure if this would fit our theme - maybe we could do 1 as side-read as you suggested.
Just got another review request. I guess I know what I'm doing on my vacation! Good thing I can't afford a trip to Hawaii or a cruise!! I have too much reading to do LOLOL
Allison wrote: "Bless your heart Nicole, lol, a blog? Me? No, I don't have a blog. I can barely keep up with just simply logging into sites, anything else is way too technical for me. I love the idea of a blog tho..."I've read them, BUT, I would be willing to discuses them. they really are fast reads.
Nicole, you should respond there great short, quick reads. they take just a couple of hours (if that ) to read.
Pre-September book pick - PI's, if your side read is agreed on for author, Barbara V. feel free to go with it. I've a waiting list of about five books that I'm dying to get to. So, I'll probably sit out side read to pick one off my list. Meantime, we can start Sept's. main pick and I'll probably get on board with that one. Will pop up a thread ASAP. Thanks!
Looks like there will be a new Gourmet Detective on Hallmark Mystery Movie channel in October along with new Aurora Teagarden and Hannah Swenson movies (don't know about Garage Sale Mystery) it promises to be quite an entertaining month! Can't wait!
A book buddy who has been good to Country Inn, Dead & Breakfast series is hosting a to do in the Goodreads community. Pop in and say hello to Jamie if so led. Congrats, Jam!!

A little freshening up of masthead and profile photos but still in keeping with Parlor theme. Waiting for a few B&B inn properties to give me permish to post their photos. Bored with same old same old. How about you PI's?
Time to treat yo'selves, PI's? RetailMeNot has a great 40% off coupon for B&N. Finally, one that works. Already used mine...of course. (Sshh...the secret code D5X4N63AQBL3K I so love great suspense with a satisfying reveal ;-)
Tina wrote: "I love seeing Kelli Martin introducing fall lineup. I miss her in Mystery Woman series."Me too Tina!
If I read correctly, Kelli Martin has a new series coming out as well. Looking forward to that one!!
He, PI's, if you've fave autumn, winter holiday and Christmas type photos that are Copyright approved and have subject matter to do with our Parlor PI theme, please send me. I'll refresh our Parlor pics with something pertinent to our group.
I'll take a look and see if I can find some interesting photos! My vacation is over so my unlimited reading time is over too :( :( I guess I had to go back to work sometime *grumble*
What do all of you PIs do for work? I'm a teacher in a year round school so I only got a short summer vacation.

Summer's gone, Nicole, but glorious fall and winter holiday season starts soon. Nature's peace offering of sorts. ;-)
Use to do the 9 - 5 thing but those jobs are hard to find nowadays so I grab home office phone jobs, seasonal gigs, designing holiday cards (limited client list). "When" I win the lotto, I'm going back to filming providing that happens in this lifetime. ;-)

Thanks, Nicole. Got the reminder in e-mail today. Have you signed up for it? You seem to have good luck with the wins. Buy a lotto. ;-)
We'll as you all can tell I'm a breeder of dachshunds. Which I am retiring Farrah but I do still have Marrah, or some of you may know her as Baby Marrah, as that's what I tend to call her. Plus out of this last litter of Farrah's I'm keeping a pretty li'l cream girl. Some of you have seen her on my facebook, her call name is Isabella, or Izzy, or Bella, or Izzy B, depending on my mood and what she's done/doing. For her registered name I wanted it to be Lavender Shine Bright Like A Diamond, but everyone said NO! But, they did like my second name which is Lavender Diamond In The Ruff.
Out of Marrah's litter my son is taking her black and tan boy, my in laws are deciding if they want the one that looks like Marrah, and NO ONE has inquired about the other boys. I don't mind if they stay here :)
I've got my bachelor's in accounting, but we live in a small town and since we only have one vehicle, I work part time at Subway here in town because it's only a ten minute walk from my house.
So that's me in a nut shell.
Who's up next
Tina wrote: "I love seeing Kelli Martin introducing fall lineup. I miss her in Mystery Woman series."I love the Mystery Woman series and Kellie Martin.
Thanks for sharing! It's so interesting to see what others do (besides reading)!!Jill, I love seeing your puppy pictures on Facebook. I would love to someday breed Pugs.
Nicole,Before you breed Pugs, make sure you do a lot of research, like what percent of them have to have c- section, usually how many is an average litter, what's the chance of puppies being born breech, all of that. If I remember right a lot of pugs have to have c's and that gets very costly. If you do decide to breed, get with me and I'll give you my recipe to help with making sure they have enough milk to feed, yes it might put some weight on the mother, but she will lose it, and after the babies are gone, you put her on a diet that isn't that bad. And I'll give you the name of the wormer I use, that's a lot cheaper and very effective. But don't let the vets know, because they get upset because they are losing some money...lol....trust me, I take mine to the vet, but I also keep my mouth shut at the same time....
I do mine as a hobby, I don't breed my girls every season, they take a season off in between, I don't breed before they are two or after 5, I'm not in it to get rich, I do it for the enjoyment of the puppies, I only breed my girls, 2 - 3 times. A lot of breeders will breed more, but the dogs aren't just dogs, they are part of my family, and I treat them all that way. Learn all you can about the breed, including colors, pattern's markings, which you can breed to and what not to breed to. There's a lot of knowledge that needs to be learned. I was fortunate, to have been born into a family that dealt with a lot of different dogs. My grandfather raised, breed, trained and raced greyhounds, I've done the AKC shows, no I don't put up with there politics, and I've been blessed to of had many great dogs. I'm not a total expert and I will never claim to be, but I do know a lot and I'm always willing to share the info. But like I said think long and hard before you get into breeding. if you want to know more you can always message me on fb or text me.
Sounds interesting, Jill. I'm thinking 20 years down the line though LOL No time to dedicate to it now and I don't want other things to get in the way so I could give the pups my full attention. I don't even think I could give them up. I'd want to keep all the little babies for myself!! (and then my husband would kill me LOLOL).
In other news...I am now 13 books behind on my Goodreads challenge. How did that happen??? I'm always reading!!! Anyway, I don't know if I've mentioned that I started listening to Audiobooks from Overdrive. Has anyone tried them? I listen to them mostly while driving or cooking dinner or other mundane house related tasks. I am really enjoying them!! The one I'm listening to now is The Fate of Mercy Alban by Wendy Webb. It's really holding my attention and sometimes even after I get out of the car I don't want to turn it off!! My husband says I have to turn it off during dinner though! Darn it! I want to find out what happens!
I love them too. I do a lot of cooking and gardening and listen to books to make the time pass more enjoyably. I do like novels that aren't too involved though for listening. After taking a driving course though I stopped listening to them while driving. The instructor said listening can lead to distracted driving. Not sure if this is true or not.
I figure no more than talking on a hands free device or listening to the radio or eating or smoking.

OMG HOOPLA is awesome!!! I just downloaded it on my phone. So many cozies!! I'm about to get a lot more exercise in now that I have something to listen to while I walk. I hated wasting reading time when I had to go out and exercise LOLOL Yeah, I'm THAT weird ;)
I use hoopla when I go work out or on my walks by myself, but if I'm with the dogs it's our one on one time, but it makes working out and walks a lot quicker...lol
No side read for September? If no, we'll keep Dark and Stormy the read for the month. Moving along on story.
