There is no direct connection. The Ziska virus is considered pesky but harmless. It may be just a marker. Draw your own conclusions.
But in some of the new areas it has spread to, certain birth effects seem to becoming more common. Brazilian health officials say it may be causing a birth defect called microcephaly, too.
Microcephaly can be caused by a number of syndromes and its main symptom is a smaller-than-usual brain and head.
