But in some of the new areas it has spread to, certain birth effects seem to becoming more common. Brazilian health officials say it may be causing a birth defect called microcephaly, too.

Microcephaly can be caused by a number of syndromes and its main symptom is a smaller-than-usual brain and head.

The mosquito issue is getting worse in Brazil. Brazil's Ministry of Health says there is now a suspected link between Zika and the cases of microcephaly in infants.
