Marrisa's story starts when her parents met on a set in New York City, her mother being a photographer and her father being a male model. They instantly clicked, and soon after the shoot they started to date, and a year later got married. Another year and a half and she was born. When she was two, her little brother was born. She grew up in New York as a out-going child due to her parents' connections. They were able to get her into a lot, including acting, singing, and modeling. She even went to a private arts school. Until the age of 10, she'd loved it, and still does, however, when she'd gone swimming for the first time with her friends, she fell in love with the water. She told her parents she wanted swimming lessons, and she was a natural. She'd gone into many competitions for four years and placed at least third in all of them. She specifically excelled in free-style.
But in the span of one week, everything changed. Her mother got into a car accident, falling into a coma. She only stayed alive for a week in the hospital, and it left Marissa's father devistated. For a while, she basically had to raise her brother and take care of her father. He wouldn't eat unless she made him. She ended up having to get a few babysitting jobs around her area, foregoing her swimming passion, using the money for groceries and the like. After a few months, her father one day decided he didn't want to mope around and needed to step up to be a father, surprising Marrisa when she came home and found him cooking dinner. He was the best father he could be after that (save for episodes of depression near the anniversary of her mother's death every year), and accepted everything Marrisa wanted, although she never went back to competitive swimming. She came out when she was fifteen as pansexual and genderfluid and even got herself a relationship. Life seemed to be going well, but still, her mother's absence was not easy.
When Marrisa turned sixteen, she wound up getting herself into a fight defending her family. Someone in her private school accused the girl's father of being a "lowlife loser" because of his recent struggle to get a real job to support his family. She threw the first punch, and many many after that, beating the girl into the hospital with a broken nose and a busted lip. She got expelled, but her father couldn't be mad at her. He instead decided to get as far away from that place-gone-bad as they could, buying a house on Shadowcrest Island and moving himself and his children there. They've been living there a year now, and Marrisa's gotten back into swimming.
The only time she'd gone a day without swimming (technically a few weeks) was a few weeks after she'd gotten to the island. She went diving and while under the water, she found herself distracted by something shimmering deep down in the dark. Unsure of what it was, she went to try and get a closer look only to feel a sharp pain in her thigh. When she swam back to the shore, she saw that something had sliced her thigh. She went to the hospital and ended up getting stitches and having to sit at home for a week, then keep out of the water for another two until the wound healed. When she got back to the water, she'd tried to look for what sliced her and what was shining, but nothing was there...
Family:
The Thompson family is a broken family, one without a mother and with a father who occasionally goes into a fit of depression. The two children are far from unhappy though. The three living members are quite content with their way of living, and they get along pretty well, save for the sibling rivalry on the occasion. The island has only brought them closer.

History: Ozzy had a weird past that no one would've guessed. He was adopted into an extremely rich family that had a strange obsession with cryptids. The family traveled all over the world, from the Himalayas to Puerto Rico, in search for rare and mythical creatures. During his trip all over the world, Ozzy learned many languages and saw some really weird shit, ranging from goats in trees and African tribes with lip rings the size of dinner plates. The most prominent was a group of mermaids... that sunk his family's yacht and stole their silverware and their disco ball. The only one who ended up surviving out of Ozzy's entire family was him and his white sister Julie. They spent months on a lifeboat until they reached shadow crest island, and their memories of mermaids and their family was somehow erased. All Julie and Ozzy are left with are distorted images of Africa, Asia, strange islands and multiple foreign languages.
