The synopsis makes it sounds like a creepier The Selection, or is it just me?

It reminds me of Legend a bit, they all had to do a test too. I think they did in Pawn as well.

Anyway, I've started this yesterday, and the beginning was really interesting, what with the Reckoning and all, but now, that I'm almost halfway through? Not so much...

Yeah, this was a bit of a weird one for me. I think I was maybe too generous giving it 3.5 stars. It started out as a dystopian, but then half-way through it seemed to change into more of historical fantasy story. bit weird.

Now that I have a little more time, i agree with you, the dystopian aspect was lost along the way, and it felt more like an alternative historical fiction.
