SOLVED. Cat in title; about a witch community. Girl is new to group [s]

Read this book about 15 years ago, it wasn't new then. Maybe from early 90's or maybe much older? The story is about a woman who moves to live with a group of pagans, commune style. She isn't completely a part of the group. Group leader is a woman who lives in a big, old house. There is also a cat in the story who serves as her guide, he is a major character in the story. I believe the local town has issue with the commune. The book has a secondary romantic plotline.



Details with spoilers: Woman dies, has to go through her own guilt, seen in the form of a nun from the catholic school she went through.

Adults. Suspense would be the closest genre. Not the Witches of Dixie, this had only one heroine and has Cat in the title. Thank you for your help, Kris.
