I first read The Hobbit last year and I thought it was a really good book and I was supposed to continue the series but I just couldn't so I am starting it up now but I just need some opinions on which order to read it in. I have already read The Hobbit so I just need a list of the order in which I should read them and also should I watch the movies first or read the books first because I have heard that the movies are amazing but I just do not know :)
Thank you
P.S can you add into the list ALL of Tolkien's works on Middle Earth including The Silmarillion etc.
the Lord of the Rings trilogy and then the Simarillion ( a very difficult read that one) would be my suggestion. All the other works were done in conjunction with Tolkien's son after J.R.R. had already passed on.
I would recommend NOT reading the Silmarillion. I love the LOTR series and the Hobbit and the Silmarillion made me want to claw my eyes out. It is basically a history textbook of Middle Earth...very dry and very hard to follow or get invested in.
The Silmarillion is only a dull and difficult read if you have the attention span of a gnat. Its a wonderful book that really gets into the meat of the world and add a tremendous amount of depth to it. I recommend it highly.
