Chuck's Chapter

Next month (and after), I'm turning my attention to some books I've wanted to read but just haven't got it done: War and Peace, Les Miserables, Infinite Jest, etc...
I have had War and Peace on my bookshelf forever. One of these days I will actually get around to reading it. It's just Soooooooo long *sigh*

Yeah, it really is. It's one of the very longest ever. But it supposed to be really, really good.

I have downloaded War and Peace and am also working into it
Soon I think.

Maybe we can buddy read it next month. I'm definitely reading it. I'm going to slow way down starting next month and start being really picky about what I read.
I've been thinking about this for a while now. I'm going to start reading a lot more classics. At least 1/3. There are just so many books coming out and most of them are junk frankly, and a person can only read so many books in a lifetime. There just isn't enough time to sift the wheat from the chaff. There are currently over a 130 million books out there, and by far more are published every week than a person could read in a lifetime. The classics are classics essentially because billions of people have read millions of books over many lifetimes and narrowed it down to a few thousand good ones. I think everyone should take advantage of that.

I wanna read at least one of what I've come to think of as a mega-series. Seems like a good one. I'm also thinking about some others too. JD's Robb's In Death series is a possibility also.
I really want to get back into the classics soon myself. I keep telling myself I'm gonna do it and then end up end a million different buddy reads at one time (none of them classics). Already have stuff lined up for the first two weeks of May at least. Maybe I'll get into a classic after that. I own a bunch of them and nearly all of them you can get for free through the Guttenburg project.

Exactly. There is A LOT of good reading to be done for free before spending good money on bad books.
Where the heck did that quote come from Chuck? Weird, I don't remember writing that at all.

HAHAHA! SO very sorry, Cindy! No you certainly didn't say that! I pasted the wrong quote from my clipboard! SO, SO SORRY!
It's OK Chuck. It was just strange because I usually remember what I say. I thought "boy you were really tired if you wrote something you don't remember".

Haha! I must be the one that's tired. Again, so sorry-can't believe I did that.

Last night I started reading my very first Mary Higgins Clark: I've Got You Under My Skin: A Novel. It's pretty good so far. It's hard to believe I haven't read her before. She's only one of the most popular novelist ever, ha-ha. I think she's been dubbed: "The Queen of Suspense".
I think I read one book by her Chuck. Can't recall the title but it was a holiday book of some sort. Glad you're enjoying the book.

That sounds like a pretty balanced approach. And I like the fact that you have authors with some pretty huge catalogs you've read. I used to try to do that. I mean, I would get on an author and read book after book from them with that goal in mind, but I've never been able to pull that off. Not with an author with much of a catalog anyway.
How does May 1st sound for War and Peace?

I will follow your posts on War and Peace but I've got too much lined up to read something that long for quite some time. Enjoy!

That would be AWESOME! Heck yeah, let's do it starting May 1st. We'll set up a thread for it here at Casual Readers.

I know how that is. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment, hehe.

No problem. You're more than welcome.
I hear it's pretty tough at the beginning, which I can kinda vouch for since I read a little bit of it, but it supposed be pretty awesome by the second half.

Actually, I'm considering books a little less than 250 now, but anything much less than just isn't a novel IMO.

Thanks Holly! Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to fail miserably. I just spend too much time trying to find something to read that's suited to my mood. Otherwise, I think I could do it.
Don't be so hard on yourself Chuck. This is supposed to be fun. Heck, 15 books in 30 days is good. :D

Thanks Cindy! I'm having fun with it. I read 15 books in 21 days, and a few of those days, like this last one, I completely wasted deciding what to read. I just wish I would've had my reads lined up better.
15 in 21 days is somewhere around 300 a year without actually doing the math (just guessing). I couldn't even attempt to keep a pace like that. I think you were only doing it for a month, right?

Yeah, 30 days. But I have blown it again this April. I guess there's always next April, I hope. Next time I'll have a better idea of what I'm going to read, for one. But things the past 3 days took a turn that really messed me up. Not that I've given up this year. Today is Day 24 and I would have to read 2 books everyday, and I just don't think I have it in me right now. I'm hoping just to break 20 at this point and see how well I can do page wise.

I think I would have had a lot better shot at it had I lined my books up and some other stuff not happened. I guess I'll finish with about 20. I think I may have done better last time.
