As a reader, I would rather be "in" a story than merely an observer. Some authors narrate, others invite participation. Velda Brotherton is the hospitable sort who transports a reader from her living room to the Oklahoma hills, makes the setting so real that a person can feel the warm sand along the Red River oozing between his/her toes. SAD SONGS is an enjoyable read.
