Linda Wells The trailer and theme song matched the story: dark and mysterious. The book was disturbing so I may skip the movie. From past experience, the book is usually better than the movie.

Maggie James The trailer's a bit of a mess, in my opinion; it tries to cram too much in. And the shot of her drowning is weird - not sure why that was included. I'll probably see the movie, but I'm unsure about Ben Affleck as Nick Dunne.

Elisa Santos Ben Affleck? What a miscast! I haven´t seen one movie, that he was on it, that i liked.

But i will probably see the movie - just to see if he can carry the role and make me despise him.

Matthew Turner Ralph... you are so right. That would've been such a better trailer. The official trailer is messy and all-over-the-place, but what you've suggested is interesting and dark and misleading... just like the book.

Sarah terrible soundtrack - hope the movie soundtrack is better.......

Then why are you here?

message 57: by Jake (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jake I am so sick and tired of people thinking that movie trailers are supposed to tell the audience what the movie is about. It's not. The sole purpose of a movie trailer is to get the audience into the movie theater. It's a marketing device. It's supposed to get you interested in paying and seeing the movie. THAT'S IT.

Trailers don't necessarily have to be honest with the audience either. They can mislead you into thinking the movie will feature some big actor/actress, when he or she is only in the movie for 5 minutes.

If you want to know what the movie is about, then you go to IMDb or some other ticketing website.

As for the "Gone Girl" trailer, I thought it was VERY well edited. I expect nothing less from Fincher. I saw the trailer first, then read the book. So when I saw the trailer for the first time, I really didn't know what was going on, which is good in this case.

Very much looking forward to the Fincher + Affleck combo. Fincher RARELY disappoints me.

I'm also interested in how Flynn changed the ending! Is Amy really dead or not?

Joshua Looks terrible. The Amy doesn't even look close to 40 and Gillian Flynn said herself that its not going to follow the book.

Ahmed Nadeem I liked the book and i think the movie will be great.

Elise Lisa - President of Challengeaholics Anon and Challenge Enabler wrote: "I disliked the book so I won't be going to see the movie."

Ditto.

Paula I do not like the trailer. Something is off with Ben Affleck in this trailer and I am sure the movie won't even come close to the book. Mostly, I dislike when they try to capture a good book into a movie.

Natalia I feel that the movie is going to be much better. I can't wait for it.

message 63: by Sara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sara I think the trailer is really close to the book... Definitely Im watching the film.

Beth S. That song is hideous! Please do not use that in the film, make it dark and broody, not stupid.

message 65: by Donna (new)

Donna I'll see the movie just out of curiosity. The author wrote the screenplay for the movie and changed the ending. I'm interested in comparing it to the book's ending.

Jamela Robledo I didn't like the book either! But Ben Affleck is a pretty good actor is might be interesting to see. Sadly, I hope the movie is better than the book.

Judith Gash (Balafre) I saw the trailer at the movies last night and I agree that the song is awful. I couldn't get a handle on the film content, as it went too fast. Bad trailer. Loved the book!!

Laura I liked the look of the trailer, but never imagined Neil Patrick Harris as Desi! I didn't like the writing of the book, but the actual storyline was pretty good, so I think I will want to see the film. (+I love Ben Affleck)

Gillian Flynn (the author of the book) wrote the screenplay for the movie and she said that she changed the ending so that the readers will still be surprised.

Mary Didn't like the book and I think it will be a better movie than it was a book, which is rare.

Now that I have seen the trailer, I definitely think the movie will be better than the book ... and possibly good.

I'm not too stoked on Ben playing Nick Dunne but I hope he does well portraying the character. As for the trailer. I loved it! maybe for the people who haven't read the book wouldn't like it because it's a little vague but thats what i loved most about it. Even though i have read the book the trailer still made me think anything could happen. I'm slightly hopeful they change the ending because i for one didn't like it very much.

Nichole W. Mickey wrote: "I liked the book, but I hated the trailer.
And why will they change the ending?
It was pretty good in the end, in my opinion"

I think they fiddled with the ending so there's still something of a surprise for those of us who've read the book.

Sherry Trailers being what they are, often either entice or fall flat. Having read the book, the trailer is rather enticing because the actor and actress playing the parts are believable. I could not picture a better Amy than Rosamund Pike. She has the perfect duplicitous face.
A group of us, who have read the book, plan to see the movie together and then go out afterwards and discuss whether the movie did the book justice, or if one has not read the book, will the movie stand on it's own. It's all fun!

Patricia Dusenbury I liked the book but thought the trailer was simply awful. The song - ugh!!!

Whether or not I see the movie depends on reviews, but Ben Affleck is one of my favorite actors, and that could bring me into the theater.

message 79: by Jim (new) - rated it 1 star

Jim Crocker I thought the music sucked. However, the trailer plays up the BIG HOOK that kept me reading the book -- and I should add: reading the book even though I disliked the characters more and more. But I continued reading because I swallowed the hook. What the heck happened to her. Where did she go?

The device of having the guy playing against her "diary" was exceptional. By books end I was foaming at the mouth and felt cheated.

Even though I know what happens, I'll still get the movie simply to see if they find a way to make it work for me. Obviously, it has worked for most everyone else. And good luck to you, too.

Heather Starr I just read that they haven't changed the ending.

I'm wondering if they can do it justice! It kept me on the edge of my seat. We will see about the movie.

Bagman Gosh, it's a trailer. Never saw anyone review a movie based on a trailer! Gone Girl made me a big fan of Gillian Flynn. I liked Dark Places even more and Sharp Objects is on my "Read List". The movie is based on a well written and successful book, has quality actors and fairly good director. I'm looking forward to seeing the film.

message 84: by Bagman (last edited Sep 29, 2014 12:22PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Bagman Ashley, I appreciate your opinion, but it's still just a movie trailer, put out by a promotion company. As we all know, it may, or may not even be an accurate representation of the plot. If it looks entertaining people will go see it.

Xiomara Love the book, I will see the movie.

Bagman I think we're beginning to beat a dead horse here. I believe that we're both looking forward to the movie.

Signe I really liked the book until the end, so I'm going to see the movie because they've changed the third act - and I'm hoping it'll end a lot better. Not that I want a happy ending - I just want a fair one.

I liked the trailer because it didn't give to much away regarding the plot. I think it would be a shame if too much was given away and I'm excited to hear some thoughts on the second act. I'm definetely looking forward to the movie.

Miriam I liked the book. Enjoyed it pretty well and the trailer was quite enticing so I will definitely go watch it.

I'm a huge fan of David Fincher and I love his work so there's hope for this movie. The actors chosen were not my initial choice, but seeing them in the trailer and from previous films, they do suit the characters and will be good.

Looking forward to it. Comes out in cinemas here in 3 days!

I have to agree. I did like the book and even though I am not a huge Ben Affleck fan, I am a fan of David Fincher, so I plan to go see it.

Bridget I listened to this book on CD and it was great! I am going to see the movie, but I can't see the movie being as good as the book and also I don't feel the movie can capture the main characters thoughts as well as the book did.
