Lisa I disliked the book so I won't be going to see the movie.

Christine I don't like the trailer, it really didn't say anything about the movie. I liked the book, but don't think I will see the movie.

Mochaspresso I don't like the trailer at all. The song is awful and the trailer doesn't truly explain what the movie is about. At least, not to someone who hasn't already read the book.

From what I saw, it follows the book pretty damn closely. I'll catch it. Affleck isn't a bad actor, given the right vehicle, and I love Rosamund Pike.

Malgorzata I like the trailer, especially the contrast between music and what's going on on the screen. As a huge Fincher fan, I'm definitely going to see the film.

Rachelle The trailer didn't remind of the book I read but it looks like it will be entertaining. I will definitely go see the movie and hope that they don't play that song ever again.

Stephanie I actually liked the trailer, but I agree with @Mochaspresso....unless you've read the book it is kind of hard to discern exactly what the movie is about besides a wife gone missing.

And that he's swearing he didn't kill her. And that they show loving scenes between them, as well as arguing. Personally, I like the hints of scenes as opposed to most trailers that deliver the entire story in two minutes and leave nothing to the imagination.

Meredith I liked the trailer.....of course the trailer is only going to be shot from the first half of the book! A trailer is meant to tease and entice not show you the whole outline of a movie.

Lisa I didn't like the song.

But other than that, I liked the trailer. JMO - Affleck and Pike will be great.

However, I think that Amy Acker would have been perfect as Amy.

I will see the movie - the ending is changing, and I am looking forward to seeing what Fincher will do.

Madeline Szwed I find it interesting that the trailer showed the woman in the water a the end. When we who have read the book know that Amy never makes it to drowning herself. I'm eager to see how closely the movie follows the books storyline.

Ginger Christine wrote: "I don't like the trailer, it really didn't say anything about the movie. I liked the book, but don't think I will see the movie."

I think they have to be vague in the trailer without giving the story away. Looks like it's going to be pretty good!

Toni I haven't seen the trailer for the movie, however, I did not enjoy the book. The ending was a cop-out on the authors part, in my opinion. Unless I hear from someone that they have changed the ending I will not watch the movie.

David Madeline wrote: "I find it interesting that the trailer showed the woman in the water a the end. When we who have read the book know that Amy never makes it to drowning herself. I'm eager to see how closely the mov..."The scene where she is drowning is in there probably as a simulation in Affleck's (Nick's) mind about what he thought happened to his wife.

Just my guess.

Katie That song is absolutely awful.

Heather Starr I loved the book, and I really like that the trailer didn't give too much away. I can't wait to see the movie!! :)

Joyce Heather wrote: "I loved the book, and I really like that the trailer didn't give too much away. I can't wait to see the movie!! :)"
me too and I love watching Ben Affleck. Just watching the trailer makes me want to relisten to my audiobook.

Vicky I had to watch the trailer a few times and really to listen to the words of the song and only then did I find it very apropos. It's a bit off kilter, I expect nothing less from Fincher and it goes well with the mood of the book, IMO.

Dolly Markel I really didn't think the trailer seemed that exciting. I absolutely LOVED the book and I'm a fan of Ben Affleck so I will see the movie. It will be interesting to see how well they do the turn around...

Vicky Dolly wrote: "I really didn't think the trailer seemed that exciting. I absolutely LOVED the book and I'm a fan of Ben Affleck so I will see the movie. It will be interesting to see how well they do the turn aro..."

I agree, it's only exciting to me because I've read the book. I wonder though, if they're banking on Fincher's cred for working fabulous stories.

message 22: by Linach (new) - added it

Linach I LOVE Rosamund Pike as Amy so much!

but I dont like the trailer, it's not intriguing enough, and what's up with that stupid song?

I will probebly see the movie because I loved the book very much.

Krystal Esmi I HATED the book, but the trailer looked pretty good. The movie won't be as thorough as the book, that might be a good thing. I'm curious.

Linda Wells The trailer was all right but it didn't make me want to see the movie. Most books are better than the movies, anyway. The book was edgy and disturbing but I couldn't put it down. I agree with Katie. The song was awful. Maybe I need to listen to it a few more times.

message 25: by Beth (new) - rated it 5 stars

Beth I am trying to figure out what I would think of the trailer had I not read the book. I like how it provides some basic info and doesn't tell all the juicy details. The music is not what I expected but it has an eerie painful tone to it which is very suitable.

Amanda Alexandre I liked the song. It's called "She" and shows exactly how the book is centered on Amy, even if she isn't the only with a POV. Not only the music, but the trailer tries to set Amy as a wonderful, fascinating woman - capable of setting passions and stalkers, which is sarcastic, as we readers know her true nature. It's all part of the act.

It's a David Fincher movie anyway, we shouldn't expect anything flat and squared.

I liked that they changed the last act of the story. It will give us more surprises to come!

And of course the trailer doesn't show what the story is really about! It's a thriller! The less people know, the better!

Colleen Stitch I agree, the song didn't go with the movie. elvis Costello sang that song for nottinghill and it was beautiful. since I have read the book and know the real story, I didn't like the preview. im looking forward to the movie since I did like the twists in the book.

Jo Ellen The Song is from the movie Notting Hill. I can hardly wait for the movie. I heard the ending was changed for the movie. Should be interesting.

Alendi I liked the book, but I hated the trailer.
And why will they change the ending?
It was pretty good in the end, in my opinion

message 30: by Jood (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jood Loved the book, but based on this trailer I doubt I'll go to the cinema to see the film.

The trailer gives absolutely no idea of what the story is about, other than a man is accused of murdering his missing wife.

I see one or two people here have said the ending has been changed for the movie - why do movie makers do this! Leave things as the author intended...bah humbug!

message 31: by Teri (new) - rated it 4 stars

Teri I loved the book, but am a little apprehensive about the movie because of Ben Affleck. I've never been a fan of his acting because I feel like he doesn't have enough range of emotion; However, in this case it might serve him well while playing Nick. I'm not sure I like the idea of the ending being changed either. Regardless, I'm sure I'll be watching it and comparing notes!

Jessica I'm excited to see this movie... I liked the book, I liked the trailer. "She" is completely apropos.

Do you guys really want the WHOLE story to be revealed in the trailer? I realize that what they show just makes it seem like your average "husband accused of wife's death" story, but by using "She" it gives a creepy contrast and piques the curiosity.

message 33: by O (new) - rated it 3 stars

O i didn't like the book as much, but I'll go and see it to compare the swap, not thrilled that ben Afflek is playing Nick.

Amanda Alexandre Jessica wrote: "I'm excited to see this movie... I liked the book, I liked the trailer. "She" is completely apropos.

Thank you! You understood why they used the song and the trailer as it is. I don't know how people can't get this!

message 35: by Juan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Juan I liked it. I think it's a good thing they didn't give the plot away. Besides, it's a teaser. The final trailer will probably be longer and more comprehensive.

Jessica Amanda wrote: "Jessica wrote: "I'm excited to see this movie... I liked the book, I liked the trailer. "She" is completely apropos.

I know, right?

"She" is fitting because it is an ode to a woman who is NOT perfect. It is a very subtle way of giving a clue that Amy may not be so perfect.

Jood Amanda wrote: "Jessica wrote: "I'm excited to see this movie... I liked the book, I liked the trailer. "She" is completely apropos.

I DO get it, Amanda - I just don't like it....that awful song, or the trailer.

message 38: by Ann (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ann I didn't like the trailer at all. Very little dialogue and the song it was set to didn't work for me. I think the movie could be great though. It's hard to tell by what was shown since there wasn't much talking.

Tania I didn't like the trailer. And I don't think Ben Affleck should play Nick.

Wendy Larken Not a fan of the trailer, but I'll reserve judgement until I see the movie. I did LOVE the book though!

Paula I almost never go to see a movie that has been based on a book I’ve read – especially if I like the book! In my experience, the movies are rarely true to the original text. And, what’s more, when reading a book my imagination constructs a “reality” of its own (my own?) after which seeing the movie is usually disappointing. The only exception to this was Peter Hoeg’s Miss Smilla’s Feel for Snow: I loved both the book and the movie.

Lisa Paula wrote: "I almost never go to see a movie that has been based on a book I’ve read – especially if I like the book! In my experience, the movies are rarely true to the original text. And, what’s more, when r..."

I felt the same way about "The Book Thief;" I thought both were absolutely wonderful.

Adarsh Didn't like the characters in the book so will not see the movie

Nadosia Grey Seems interesting. I'll wait for the reviews to come in before I watch it. I don't want to unnecessarily ruin it if I don't have to.

message 45: by Matthew (new) - added it

Matthew Turner Loved the book and love Fincher. Love the actors they've cast and all-in-all think the film will be great. But seriously --- that trailer was atrocious. It was so drab.

message 46: by Cami (new) - rated it 4 stars

Cami Mulholland i thought the trailer was really good. And the song was super creepy, which sets the right mood. I found it very effective.

Samantha Ruiz I liked the trailer and I think Ben Affleck is perfect to play Nick. But I don't think the movie will be able to capture the suspense and twisted psychology that's portrayed in the book. I'm still looking forward to seeing it.

message 48: by Deb (new) - rated it 5 stars

Deb Stambaugh I'm excited for this movie as I'm a huge fan of Fincher and loved Gone Girl. After recently watching Argo my opinion of Ben Affleck has gone way up too. Must see for me.

message 49: by Ralph (last edited May 08, 2014 03:11PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ralph An effective trailer would be to have it just on the press conference to announce his missing wife and him smiling at the end. No need to do flashbacks and music montages--that would be a good hook to get someone who hasn't read the book interested, and give a good idea of what the plot is without giving away everything.

Suzie Dodd The trailer matched the book very well, but for those who have not read the book, the trailer/storyline might be a tad confusing. Will catch the film if only to see how it ends...
