I'm excited to start reading this book!

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Me too! I'm going to start now. I'll come back once I've read two chapters :)

message 3: by Janna (new)

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Alright, first two chapters down!

So, I'm not sure I'm enjoying the dialogue so far. The way they speak is just so strange. It reminds me of the way slaves talk in old movies. Isn't this a dystopian book? Why would people revert to that way of speaking. I'm assuming there will be a reason... Because right now I'm just confused.

And what's with all of the secrecy? Would it really kill them to just give Thomas the basic information?!

Intriguing start, overall, though! What do you think?

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
Hey! Sorry, I'm a day late. OK, brace yourself. It's gonna be a load of things. But yes! The dialogue is definitely something to get used to. I'm not too fond of it, but I guess it'll take some getting used to.

Yeah, it is a dystopian novel. There are some weird vocab like shuck-it or shank. I'm still trying to figure out what it means, like you. Hopefully, that part will either be obviously or subliminally explained.

I know! I really want to understand all these terms like the Baggers or Keepers or Med-jacks. So many questions! But it's definitely got me wanting to read more, because now I just HAVE to find out what the Glades is all about. It's probably some twisted adult thing where the adults find it justifiable to do this to these kids. There's not a lot of introduction for Thomas. I kind of wish they gave us a little more visual on him, but at the same time I understand why Dashner didn't, because Thomas doesn't even know anything about himself except the fact that his name is Thomas.

Other than that, I think overall it's reeling me in to find out more about this mysterious new place!

message 5: by Janna (new)

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Oh yeah! I hadn't even thought about Thomas' description. It would have been nice to at least get enough details to visualize him in my head. Ha, ha.

I can't wait to find out more about the language!

I've finished up to chapter 4 now..

Okay, I think I love Chuck already! He's adorable and funny. Is it just me or does it seem like Thomas has a bit of a temper? He has blown up on quite a few people already. I can understand that his new situation is causing stress and irritation, but dang.. He has considering punching nearly everyone we've met so far.

The walls are very intriguing, though! I can't wait to find out what else is in that maze. I'm definitely getting a hard core survivor book vibe, so far. I love good old survivor books!

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
OK! So I'm super lagging! Sorry, the past few days were heeeectic. But I am back and ready to keep reading!

I really like how Chuck was willing to be his friend. I think it's also because he was the newbie, so he was recently in that situation. Whichever reason, he's a chill kid!

They finally talked about Thomas's features, which was cool. I can kinda make him out in my head haha. I also like that they kinda have us some definitions to work with, so I'm not as lost haha. I still have a lot of questions, though! I can't wait to find out about those runners and that eerie building Thomas was talking about! And I have a feeling that Gally guy is gonna be a problem later. And the fact that he saw him somewhere?! What if he was sent by whoever is keeping all of them there? I have so many theories haha. But so far, it's good. Thomas was kind of on edge and it was bothering me that he wouldn't abide by the rules, but I get that he wants answers. So do I! I'm excited to keep reading :)

CH 4-6

WHAT IS THAT THING?! I have so many questions. I can't wait to find out what is going on, and the fact that he's been in the Glades before! I'm pretty sure he was involved with the group that put them all there, whether he was with them or against them. Either way, I want to find out what's on the other side of that maze.

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Sorry! I had a crazy busy few days but I'm back on track!

Up to chapter 6:

I know, right?!?! How else would he feel the way he does if he wasn't in on the whole maze thing. I mean, he's smart, logical, overly eager to learn about the place, and remembers things. So many red flags! And on top of all that, Gally recognizes him. I think Gally may try to rally against Thomas if he figures it out, outcast him ya know? That would be terrible. I really want to know what's going on now! Like you, I have so many questions!

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Up to chapter 8:

Holy cow! I knew a girl would show (it's in the description), but I DIDNT know she'd show up dead. Or mostly dead, I think. It's hard to tell at this point. That's crazy!! And why is everyone so suspicious that Thomas was in on it? I'm confused and intrigued!

message 10: by Janna (new)

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Up to chapter 10:

I don't feel like we got much else from these two chapters. I wonder what will happen with Ben and Thomas, though!

message 11: by Janna (new)

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Up to chapter 12:

Whoa! A dead griever?! That's so awesome. This has to be big! Oh, and Ben.. That was insane. What is going on! I have so many questions about all of this. Where is Thomas from and why do people keep calling him out for being the bad guy or suspicious? What's with the girl?! I want more! But, I'm going to slow down now, so you can catch up too.

Ch 8

OK. THIS IS CRAZY. They send a girl and she's the only one left?! How in the world does this change everything? Well it does, but why?? And why all of a sudden after Thomas gets dumped in the Glades?

Maybe, they are worried that the man power to get out will diminish greatly without new people? I mean, if people keep dying, and there numbers decrease, the chances of them getting out decrease, as well. At least, while living their current lifestyle. That's the only reason I can think of, honestly.

OK, it's been crazy but I finally had time to catch up. Onto ch 13, but ch 11-13 have been pretty intense! Ben going all crazy about Thomas being the bad guy there. It got me so confused and intrigued. I want to understand what's happening. This book is definitely keeping me on my toes. I'm constantly flipping the page hoping for an answer. And the Minho is pretty cool! He seems like a kick unity character with his firm yet lax personality. Definitely will be an interesting dynamic between Alby, Thomas and Minho.

And we finally get to hear from a Runner! That was long awaited.

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
I meant to say kick butt haha.

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
I have this theory that Thomas and the girl had something to do with the reason the maze started. I mean think about it. Everything has changed after two years. Maybe the people who put them there were growing weary of their efforts. Maybe Thomas found a way out, found the girl but something happened. Well obviously something happened, but maybe he did solve the maze?? And now they're just messing with them. I don't know. I have so many theories running through my mind. I'm definitely getting used to the language.

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
Ch 13

BEN DIDN'T DIE?! That totally caught me off guard. I wonder what the collar is about. Just about to start reading Ch 14. Maybe it's a tracking device?

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
OK. So I didn't realized how carried away I got with the book! I'm up to Ch 30-31. One of those. There's so much to discuss!!! Let me know when you get there. This book has me turning pages relentlessly, I don't know when to stop haha. I finally had some sit down time so I started reading and I didn't really realize just how far into the book I got.

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Okay! So, after reading your last message yesterday, I knew I needed to catch up to you quick! I just finished chapter 30... And holy crap!!! Teresa was speaking to him.. In his head! How can she do that?! Where did she come from? From her comment of it being them they put the boys there, I'm thinking they are in on the whole maze setup. Either, they set it up themselves or they did something to cause it. Do you think they were in love before going to the maze? Siblings, maybe? There has to be some connection. Thomas seems to respond strangely hearing about her and seeing her. I can't believe he survived the maze all night, either! AND he saved two people. So crazy! He had to know, subconsciously, exactly what to do from his experience with the maze outside of this world. If that makes any sense... Lol

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
Yeah!!! I was wondering if they were aliens or something because that's not humanly possible. One of my theories dealt with them being conspirators with the Creators. I mean how else would any of the things he's seen be familiar? I'm actually glad that Dashner didn't put any emphasis on the romance. It would've slowed down the book, I think.

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
At first I thought they were lovers, then I thought they were siblings because of the connection. Now I just think they were lovers.

message 22: by Janna (new)

Janna Marie (jannamarie) | 10 comments Yes! So, it seems that our theories match! I think we will find out very soon what's up since Thomas is out of jail now and officially a Runner. I'm guessing the girl will wake up some time before the end. It would be weird of she was in this coma for the entire book! Lol

Dian (TheBookBuzz) (thebookbuzz) | 13 comments Mod
Yeah! Either way, it'd be good! I know, I'm kind of surprised that they didn't banish him. They were so adamant about not breaking their #1 rule. But it makes sense to keep the guy that actually survived the night in the maze. Otherwise, they would be back to square one, because he's the only one with enough wits to think of that. Well, along with Minho, who I happen to be really liking in this book. He's one of my fav characters!
