Why didn't they radio from the plane?

John I just finished reading AtMoM - great story, but one thing bothered me: When Dyer and Danforth are first flying over the ancient city, why did they not radio back to the others? I'm pretty sure that at one point, it was explicitly stated that the planes had radios.

Was there some explanation, or is this a minor plot hole? (even if it is, it's still a great story!) :)

I suppose if there was no explanation, we could imagine that the mountains and/or the mist had an effect on communications.

Ken It might be a legitimate plot hole. But we might be able to suppose that radio was not a powerful tool in that environment except at shorter distances.

Rory HPL probably forgot to correct it in the final draft or he didn't care.
