I didn't read an as good thriller as this one in a very long time. The author is a new novelist but he is not new at writing. And wow! He is really exceptional.

Don't forget we are supposed to choose in the category "thriller and mystery". I see science fiction story and all sorts of books here.

message 19: by H.M. (new)

message 21: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Thirst by L.A. Larkin I think this would be a fantastic novel to focus on- it's an incredibly well-written thriller, and right now it's actually being censored by the Chinese Government, and the author has backed out of one of her publication deals over it with Reader's Digest, making a stand for herself by not succumbing.

WOW! I was not expecting to reach the 20 nomination threshold in only a few hours. :) It looks like you all are ready for some thrillers and mysteries. I will get the poll of these and a couple nominations that were emailed to me in a couple of days.

You guys rock!

message 28: by Shalanna (new)

Shalanna Collins | 9 comments Why don't we go with something that isn't a bestseller or by a "New York Times Bestseller" author? For once, let's read something that isn't expected and isn't on the beaten path, a book that not everyone has read or will pick up. I tire of the sameness with bestsellers and their ilk. The old idea of the "midlist novel" that is targeted toward an addicted reader rather than the masses has pretty much gone, but I like quirky books that aren't from the stable of Jonathan Kellerman or whatever the flavor of the month is. Doesn't anyone else agree?

message 29: by Craig (new)

Craig Faris (craigfaris) | 10 comments I completely agree, Shalanna and I was just about to post the same thing. A nomination for a Stephen King or Dan Brown Novel is a drop in the ocean as far a affecting their sales. However I really GOOD thriller by a small press author would be a "Great Discovery" to all of us. I know that I can't nominate my own thriller, The Spectrum Conspiracy, but it is a good example. It has won 5 literary awards, has 54 combined 5-star reviews and here is what the Academy Award winning screenwriter for The Silence of the Lambs had to say about it: “Wow, what a book! It's a wild, white-knuckle ride, pedal to the metal right from page one, never letting up. A very impressive novel in ambition and scope, with intricate plotting, relentless pacing, action-filled, with technical and procedural details that bring real authenticity to the story. Bravo for writing this outstanding thriller!” Ted Tally, Academy Award Winning screenwriter of The Silence of the Lambs, Red Dragon, The Juror and many others.

Danielle Tremblay (danielle_t) | 25 comments I agree with Danny. I read Uncaged by Joe Gazzam Uncaged by Joe Gazzam and wow! It's a very good thriller and a promising author.

message 33: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary (mamieauthor) | 58 comments I nominate: Deadly Pleasures by Mary Firmin.

Here is a synopsis for your interest.

Megan and her three best friends are tired of their cheating husbands and are ready for a new adventure. They hire a sexy stripper, Michael Harrington, to be their time-share Boytoy, unaware he is the prime suspect in a series of grisly, bondage murders. When Detective Matt Donovan comes to call, Megan falls in love. Before long she is caught up in the murder investigation and lands in a heap of trouble. Matt's investigation takes him through L.A.'s private sex clubs, bondage parlors and the homes of the rich and famous. But who is the Bondage Murderer? Can it be a wealthy member of the Bayside Yacht Club? Or maybe one of the women? The rousing climax takes place on the luxury yacht, Estasea, as it sails the Channel back to the Marina

A MUST READ!

Danny Tyran (danny_) | 31 comments Another good one is:
Forced to Kill (Nathan McBride, #2) by Andrew Peterson Forced to Kill

Bravery. Honor. Sacrifice. These are more than mere words to former Marine sniper Nathan McBride. He’s never backed away from danger, and he’s not about to start now, even if it means confronting the cold-blooded interrogator who tortured him to the brink of death more than a decade ago.

When a mutilated body is discovered in a remote Utah lake, it ignites a chain of events that forces Nathan to face a dark chapter from a past he’s worked hard to forget. Could his Nicaraguan enemy be active again? On American soil? The evidence is clear, but the stakes are higher than Nathan can know. In a showdown that will test Nathan’s understanding of justice and mercy, he’ll have to make a life or death decision that has the potential to expose and destroy people at the highest levels of government.

"An absolutely bone-chilling thriller. Equal parts Stephen Hunter and Thomas Harris. Imagine Bob Lee Swagger going after Hannibal Lecter and you will have only scratched the surface of this intensely exciting novel. Forced To Kill will haunt you long after you read its last brilliantly plotted page."

I love this book! I've read it several times.

Bobbie Harrison | 1 comments This is a vivid tale, totally believable and compelling. I was involved in the tale from page one.
I nominate The Spectrum Conspiracy b Craig Faris.

message 43: by Craig (new)

Craig Faris (craigfaris) | 10 comments It seems clear that the Thriller/Mystery genre needs to be offered much MORE OFTEN. We've waited MONTHS for this genre to roll around and the nominations only lasted from 7:28 am until 6:54pm? A lot of us didn't even see the email until the next day! Uncaged by John Gazzam got two nominations and The Spectrum Conspiracy got three separate nominations, but both were ignored, because the 20 nomination threshold had already passed. Not very fair for the rest of the world who haven't even awakened yet! Many of these have already been read by millions because they are NY Times bestsellers, while new books by emerging authors don't even get a chance.
I think nominations should last AT LEAST THREE DAYS or have multiple nominations to qualify. Mysteries and Thrillers should be broken into two separate genres,/ and given the popularity of this, be offered far more often.

At the End of the Line by Abby L. Vandiver

I guess I missed this one too, but this is a fabulous book - for guys and girls.
I just finished it, and will be posting the review today. I read it twice, yes, it was that good, and I'd love for people to discover these authors. Their talent as authors is right up there with those published by mainstream publishers - in fact much better than most of I've read.

At the End of the Line by Abby L. Vandiver

Blurb:
"It’s 1958, a time when women and Negros are deemed second-class and are being second-guessed, and there arises the perfect storm for change, and the perfect time for an unlikely friendship.

Beatrice “Beanie” Peterson, forced to marry at fifteen and live with two sister wives, six children, and an abusive husband twenty years her senior, is looking for a way out.

Adeline “Liddie” Stewart Garrison, friend of Jack Kennedy, wife of a prominent Boston business man, and resident of Beacon Hill has already found her way in.

A wrong number, and a cry of desperation at the end of the line, sparks a long distance friendship between the two women who’ve never met. Through fourteen years of trouble and heartache from a stagnate domestic life, the struggle of civil rights, and the stigma of interracial relationships, a bond forms between the two that changes both of their lives forever."

Danielle Tremblay (danielle_t) | 25 comments If the nomination is finished, why the thread is not closed? There are people still recommending books. They will be very disappointed. Just like me.

Danny Tyran (danny_) | 31 comments Rosemary wrote: ""I nominated Deadly Pleasures yet it dd not appear for voting on. I wonder why. Thank you."

Just like me, probably you recommended your book after the end of the period for that. It was just one day. Mine is not in the list either. And as another participant said, I don't know why this thread is not closed since we can't add books in it.

message 50: by Terry (new)

Terry (granzilla) | 13 comments True. It should be closed if we can't nominate anymore.
Oh well, it was a fantastic book, and maybe someone will want to read it from my post.

A shame though that all the good books nominated, (even after the deadline, whenever that was), will probably not be included or considered.

Maybe we should have a runner up club :D
