Mara Chapters 7 - 12 (view spoiler)[ Can't anyone have a godly parent they like? I mean, I don't think Hazel hates Pluto per se, but Pluto is generally disliked. And then there is poor Frank who is stuck with Mars as a godly parent (I would have loved to see him as a son of Apollo). On the other hand, it adds more to their character because they don't fit the mould (Frank is a bit like Piper in that regard).

I think it's so cool that this book has a pretty diverse cast, like, Frank being Canadian-Chinese. The war game was awesome, though I recalled it being, well, longer? Oh well. Love Percy being ready to just straight up fight Mars. (hide spoiler)]

Mara Chapters 13 - 18 (view spoiler)[
Octavian is a d*ck. Why do they have to make all the creepy characters blond? And Reyna low-key suggestion they should become the rulers of the camp, and Percy awkwardly declining her offer (I feel bad for Reyna, realising that Jason now has something (not sure what) with Piper)

Anyway, I love all the tiny hints this book hold. Reyna meeting Percy before (view spoiler)[ during Sea of Monsters (hide spoiler)], and the references to The Titan's Curse (the homeless guy by the seals--Nereus--and he is like, lol nope). And that it grabs back on the Empathy(?) link, and the Argo II being built by Leo.

I thought that it was interesting that Frank's life is tied to a piece of wood not burning and Hazel has the issue with precious metals. (hide spoiler)]

So Nico revived Hazel, that was an interesting twist. And I'm sorry for Bianca, even though I neverliked her. And I'll never buy stuff from Amazon and feel the same ever again

(view spoiler)[And the endgame is approaching, I must say I changed my mind, I do like the cast. And also, Alaska is a really interesting region.
I wonder if Percy told Frank that the horse Arion is his relative as well. And man, that horse curses a lot. Still can't believe that Hazel made that huge monster, if it wasn't sad I'd be impressed.
And damn it, Percy's gone again. Can't the guy catch a break? Oh wait, he's back and mad at them haha (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 19 - 24

I want to shake Frank's shoulders and scream at him to be smarter. Like, it makes so much sense but he just doesn't get it. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 25 - 30 (view spoiler)[ Percy is being his usual, foolish self. But I keep on forgetting how clever he actually is. Like, not Annabeth level of smart, but still smart. I feel bad for poor Ella.

And the Amazons! I mean, I don't love them, but they're also a nice addition (especially Hylla, like, the reference to the Sea of Monsters). (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 31 - 36 (view spoiler)[ It's all so exciting. Like Hazel causing a prison break, Ella sprouting prophecy, Frank figuring out what exactly his family history is. And now, finally onto Alaska. (hide spoiler)]

Mara 37 - 52 [end] (view spoiler)[ Exploring Alaska was really cool, like, I enjoyed the world the author has painted. Aside from the fact I have no idea what is where located because North-America is just a mass of land for me.

I loved how Hazel and Frank showed power in their own way, though Percy just kicked ass (Death is a buff Cupid, I had forgotten about that. But I love the fact that Death is beautiful, and not bad per se. It would have been awesome if Hazel was his daughter, but alas, no minor gods or goddesses).

Percy never stops cracking me up, both during the fight in Alaska and during the attack of Camp Jupiter. He used the statue of a god to defeat the enemy. All in all a satisfying book, though it's a pretty cliff-hanger-like ending. (hide spoiler)]

I noticed I hadn't ever marked read on good reads for this book but I own a copy and it looks worn so I'm sure I have read it before but I will say some of the stuff happening here I had definitely forgotten! So glad for the reread. I don't have a copy of the next book so I will have to pick up a copy, but I will help you keep the thread alive till I can grab it. Might be later this week.

Let me start off by saying what an amazing reread journey these have been. Countless hours of entertainment and education. I have way to many highlights in this book to comment on them all but I will point out that about 80% of them are Leo cause hes my dude! So just beware the comments below are some of my best Leoisms. Welcome to the Leo montage. lol. Also, as I start this story again I have to say that I can't remember anything but the Nike battle...so almost like reading it for the first time.

We though we were going to have another one man show with Jason being a son of the big 3 but really the stardom has been shared with everyone this go round, not just at the end of the book! And Hazel is in the middle between Frank and Leo. And poor Leo still feels like a outsider.

Oh damn, Gaea forced Percy and Jason to fight. I didn't expect that, I mean I did but not this soon. I'm glad Leo is innocent, well I knew that but I think the other 6 had still suspicions.
So the Romans stole from the Greeks and it's something of importance. I wonder what it is

Mara Chapter 7 - 12 (view spoiler)[ I love Leo's part. The introduction of Echo and Narcissus, him and Hazel teaming up to retrieving a big piece of Celestial Bronze. Piper I--I know her value and she does good things, but I hate how much she zeroes in on Jason. The fact that she compared Percy to Jason still makes me roll my eyes. She does awesome things, like chasing away those creepy spirits, but immediately she jumps to Jason's rescue. (And the unnecessary love-triangle between Leo, Frank and Hazel. Like, Frank basically hates Leo because he looks like Hazel's old crush. (hide spoiler)]

Why do the Romans keep thinking that the Greek demigods are pushovers? They fought as many battles as the Romans did.
But I guess it's just selfconfidence .
Wow so Leo is Sammy's great grandchild and, I thought it was something more complicated but it's really simple.
Also, I couldn't stop laughing when the sea centaur added the name Bill after random greek names (hide spoiler)]

Mara Chapter 13 - 18 (view spoiler)[ I like that they have all these small adventures together, Percy, Frank and coach Hedge visiting an aquarium and Hedge round-house kicking a sea goddess is just, quality content (and Frank turning in a koi). And the Annabeth and Percy bonding makes me so happy, as there hasn't been a big opportunity yet.

I like the idea of a girls trip, but Aphrodite is really, ugh. (hide spoiler)]

I feel for Leo being the seventh wheel. But I like that Hazel is opening up about Sammy and that Frank is also opening up a little. The sea-centaurs were awesome, I really like the idea that there are multiple camps, including for the sea-people (and a mer-hero called Bill). (hide spoiler)]

I must say, I somewhat dislike Piper. Her constant drooling over Jason and her self pity just seem to get annoying.
"hey, in two days Romans and Greeks will kill each other and Nico will die, so let me just think of why Jason doesn't break rules with me"
God, she's annoying.


Well...Hercules isn't like I imagined. I guess everything in this book has a modern twist after all. I do get his hate for Hera, she really messed him up.
Also I'm heavily biased for Percy so every Piper's constatation about Jason being better than him, being close to killing him makes me annoyed. Sorry if I'm rambling about her but 3 chapters just about her made me really annoyed

I suspect the Ladyship in Percy's dream is Arachne
Also, Percy hearing Luke Castellan suggestion in the swordfight sure made me nostalgic for a second.

Wow, it was really an ingenious way to trick the dolphines. I like it!

Also, I can understand why Percy is feeling somewhat down, he's used to being the hero after all and he think he's failing. And his separation with Annabeth feels somewhat ominous for me.
Annabeth being guided by an owl sure has a Harry Potter vibe for some reason, well until she started hating the owl.
Also, I really missed Annabeth POV, she's such a badass and uses her smarts to fight on a very interesting way.

I was right, it was Arachne and I really stopped reading at a bad moment. It's a massive cliffhanger

Percy's bonding with Annabeth is what I live for, and him having insecurities and struggling to settle into the group, as he generally is the main hero. (hide spoiler)]

Mara 37 - 42 (view spoiler)[ Leo is an awesome third-wheel. But in all seriousness, I really like Leo. The Eidolons creep me out, I like that he could use his wits and handiness, but also grew considerate of Frank and Hazel.

One thing I'm sad about is that Piper is always stuck with Jason. I do like their dynamic, but that doesn't really give her the time to shine. She just wants to save Jason. She is quite brave, as I would have turned heel and run away. Drowning, no thanks. (hide spoiler)]

Kek, Leo is seriously messing up Hazel and Frank. I bet they got so annoyed with all his talk about Roman engineers sucking.

It didn't feel that long to me though ( I mean it's close to 600 pages!)

Nah, I was just a lazy bastard. I think I will be fine with House of Hades.

I'm planning on reading all his Mythology-related books this year, but I want to save Trials of Apollo for later (because the fourth book will be released in late September, and mostly, I'm not allowed to reread The Burning Maze till early May), so I was planning on reading the Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase first. But those were just my plans. I've a pretty good memory so a May-reread is plenty for me.
