I totally, completely agree with you. The Last Olympian was amazing and this book was, okay, but the final battles in the series were so vastly different (and the cast).

(view spoiler)[ I think the author wrapped up the book nicely but didn't give all the characters a chance to shine unlike The Last Olympian, in which nearly all the important cast-members (Clarrise, Grover, Annabeth, Luke, Ethan, Selena, Beckendorf) a chance to shine and be important for the plot. All that Annabeth and Percy did was shed some blood and stab some giants. (hide spoiler)]

I was planning on reading the Kane Chronicles next, (first time) if you're intrested?I think the timelines are parallel to Heroes of Olympus , Magnus Chase happens after Heroes of Olympus. I know little about either books so I am clueless

That sounds like a plan. I was planning on reading all the books anyway (Trials of Apollo does come out late September, which a shame).
