12 Days of Summer Challenge - the Official Game Room - ended

Luann,
I'm a teacher too, but I don't return to work for the new school year for another week. I'm also planning on returning to college for a graduate degree, so I know I'm going to have less and less time to read for pleasure. :(

This was a light fun read for me that made me laugh out loud at times. It's the first that I've read of hers so I found it quite candid.

THE LAST VAMPIRE by T.M. Wright
Elmo Land is the last vampire left and decides he needs to write his history before he chooses to die and this is his story. Not quite as entertaining as it could have been as the author makes Elmo a bit repetitve (I guess because he is so old?), but it was an interesting tale, very light on the blood and gore.

AUNT DIMITY: VAMPIRE HUNTER by Nancy Atherton
Aunt Dimity helps Lori Shepherd solve mysteries which doesn't sound so unusual except that Aunt Dimity is dead and speaks only through an old diary left in Dimity's English cottage which Lori inherited. This time out there are vampires afoot and he may be related to none other than that most famous of vampires: Count Dracula. This is the 13th in the series of Aunt Dimity books and I am definately going to look for more, a very fun cozy mystery!

I'm finally back from vacation, but didn't get to read as much as I had hoped. Sooo - I have finished B by reading The Beach Street Knitting Society and Yarn Club by Gil McNeil. And am now working on E. (Although I'm pretty sure that I am already dead meat for this challenge!)

Works for me, Cam. My goal at this point is just to finish the challenge by the time my son goes back to college in September.

Cam - you always make me laugh! I missed talking to you while I was gone. Anyway - six years is my kind of time frame.
And Slayermel - I think my new goal may be to finish before we come up with the next challenge. I was going to go for before summer ends, but not sure that is a good one.

Mine maybe, but certainly not yours Natasha. I think I'd love even just for a few weeks to read as quickly as Yourself or Roseann or Melissa. Then I'd make a dent in the Mt instead of it just growing & growing & growing.

I tried doing this whole don't buy a book unless I've read 5 off my TBR Pile, Let's just say I've bought more books this last month then I did all of last year. I've told my BF I'm herding them like squirrels do nuts so I don't have to go out in the winter ;op
It's my Hibernation pile....Yikes!!!
Hi My name is Mel and I think I have a book purchasing problem...LOL

Can you see me, by the way - I'm the Blonde in the front row drinking from my pride & prejudice orange penguin edition coffee cup. Yep - I'm with you all the way Mel & let me tell you in Oz it's winter, but I still brave the cold. This squirrel has a parka!

NICKLED AND DIMED by Barbara Ehrenreich
I actually read this one back when it first was published and had forgotten how depressing and humbling it was to read. Ms. Ehrenreich works as a "minimum wage" earner for about a year, doing everything from waitressing to serving food at an Altheimer's Center to working at Wal Mart. She finds that being an "unskilled" laborer actually takes some skills and that does not include the skill just to make ends meet every month. This book is not only and eye-opener to those people many of us take for granted every day, but also entertaining given Ms. Ehrenreich's writing skills.

P.S.--I'm really not trying to beat anyone, it's just my "Super A" personality coming out. I tend to work harder when I have something to complete. I also am reading some more "fluffier" titles for this challenge (A History of Reading and King Lear are the exceptions) and I just am getting through them pretty quickly.
But if you want me to be that way---Go ahead, try to keep up ;-)!!

Thank goodness for a new excuse! I am having that same hibernation pile problem this month too!!

I have had the luxury of vacation for the past week or so. Now that I am back to work tomorrow my progress will slow considersably. I have found it fun to have a reason to choose certain order to read books in. It's nice to seee a sizeable dent come out of Mt. TBR...then again I did visit my favourite used book store this holiday...

I loved this book!! It was a unique and somewhat unsettling story, but one that totally sucked me in.

I like this book. It was thought provoking and I like how it flipped to different character perspectives from time to time. It allowed you to hear both sides of the story.
I also finished N. Naughty Neighbor by Janet Evanovich. This is a romance novel that's been republished. It's a fast paced story that is kind of light and fluffy.

Btw, it was pretty good but not amazing. A little heavy for a beach read, a little light for "lit." I did like how unique and well-drawn the characters were, though!

KING LEAR by William Shakespeare
I had to read this in college, so it was interesting reading it for pleasure. Not one of my favorites of the Bard (I'm more of a comedy fan), but still a moving tale. I can see why some say it is Shakespeare's greatest work.

Maybe there should be a participation something just for finishing :)
I was doing well, but have slowed down. I am amazed with how fast people are moving through their lists!

If anyone needs a quick read, this is it. It's TERRIFIC, too.

I figure my reward when I finish will just be my satisfaction at having finished, and the enjoyment of the books that I was able to bump to the top of my list.

THE ENGLISH PATIENT by Michael Ondaatje
I was one of the people who did not like this movie, so I was hoping I would enjoy the novel more, unfortunately, no. While the scenic descriptions of the author were lovely, I still found the story disappointing and it was even harder to follow who was who in the book than in the film. I guess this just wasn't for me.

TRICKERY TREAT by Diana Gallagher
A fun and quick read featuring the Charmed sisters. This time it's Halloween and Paige decides to open a portal to allow some Leprecauns in for the evening. Only problem is that it also brings in a pretty nasty ghost who killed his wife and now wants to kill one of the sister's party guests.

Thank you Slayermel for a fun challenge!

I like this book. It was actually quite a quick read for 400 pages. Plot was a little predictable but still a fun read.
I finished E. Eat, Pray, Love.
I had this one before but found it still inspiring.
I just finished my T book as well. I read Two for the Dough.
I just started this series. (I know...I'm behind) I like how quirky Stephanie Plum is in these books.
Congrats Roseann on finishing your challenge too!

Also, I was on a roll (read: too little sleep!) this week, and finished my A -- The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. I should know better than to read books with dogs on the cover... Sniff.

Next up is The Art of Racing in the Rain. WTG, Roseann!

Well, the Fall challenge starts in a couple of weeks in The Next Best Book Club and I have started my own insane challenge to read all of the books from the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list (all those I haven't already read). I think I need an intervention!
BTW--Congrats Melissa!!!

I plan to spend the rest of the month just picking away from my TBR list.
I'll have to check out the challenge for The Next Best Book Club and see if it's something I want to participate in next month. School is starting back up so I'll be more preoccupied with teaching, so I won't get as much reading in as I'd like.
Good Luck and Happy Reading to those who are still working on this challenge. It was fun for me.

Thanks, Melissa! I'm not new to the group, but I can say I've enjoyed being a member! Although I still haven't started this challenge. I got a little burned out after two back-to-back Shelf-a-Thons. Also, I'm a librarian at an elementary school and school starts tomorrow. So last week was full of teacher meetings, preparation, bulletin boards, lesson plans, more meetings, and a school open house. I hope to get started this week. I want to at least start before Roseann is completely finished! :)
