Liz (liz_the_librarian) I saw a few people were having trouble accessing the 52 Book Pickup site last week. Is this still an issue for anyone? Please let me know and I will see what I can do.

I got a lot of reading done last week. It felt great! I'm reading NOS4A2 right now, which is amazing. It's hard to put down, but I haven't had much time to read in the past few days. I can't wait until my lunch break today to crack it open again. Joe Hill is a phenomenal writer. Horns was the first book I read by him, and I can definitely say I'm eager to read everything by him now.

With Game of Thrones starting back up again, I'm in the mood to start rereading the series. It's been awhile, and I like knowing the context for what's happening in the show. I'm not sure yet, but I may start reading A Song of Ice and Fire series next.

What's everyone else reading this week?

Angela Malerman (angelamal) | 41 comments Thanks Liz, the site was down until just after 10am this morning. I know it went down sometime on Fri morning but it seems to be all better now.

I am currently reading Ruins the third book in the Partials series. I finished several over the weekend and am on my way to pick up several today. I think a few by Harlin Coben since several of his have been recommended to me recently. I am also starting the third book in the True Blood Graphic Novel series. I did read the series by C. Harrison several years ago and am really enjoying the graphic aspect this time.

Kyra Hay | 41 comments Last week I read Gone Girl by Gilligan Flynn which had an interesting concept but a slightly disappoint ending. However, I decided to give Sharp Objects a chance which is by the same author and I am liking this one much more. The mystery is intriguing and I find myself thinking about the book throughout my day.

message 4: by Liz (new)

Liz (liz_the_librarian) Thanks for the update on the site, Angela! I'll keep an eye on it, as well.

Kyra, I was not a big fan of Gone Girl at all, but I think I'm in the minority. It's refreshing to hear about someone else who isn't gushing about it. I might have to give some her other books a try, though.

message 5: by Julie (new)

Julie | 130 comments I finished Ready Player One... I devoured it, haha. I really enjoyed the storyline and the 80s pop culture was fantastic.

I'm still reading A Dance With Dragons and Sacred Marriage. Otherwise I'm trying to figure what I'd like to start next, and what I'll choose for my graphic novel.

I just started listening to "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel."

I've been wanting to reread it as well. But then I think maybe I should wait until we have an idea of when the next one will come out and read them as a refresher. At the moment, I'm reading Ashfall. It's not the best writing, but I find it hard to put down. Up next, I'm planning 1Q84, which is a chunkster (nearly 1200 pages), so I'm expecting to be on it for a good while.

Ashfall (Ashfall, #1) by Mike Mullin 1Q84 (1Q84, #1-3) by Haruki Murakami

message 7: by Pattie (new)

Pattie Babbitt Just finished "An Ocean at the End of the Lane" by Neil Gaiman. Read it today from start to finish. It was fantastic. I will be picking up either "Chose the WRONG guy, Gave Him the Wrong Finger" or "All You Could Ask For" next.

Chose the Wrong Guy, Gave Him the Wrong Finger by Beth Harbison

All You Could Ask For by Mike Greenberg

I'm another that was not a big fan of Gone Girl. I had high hopes for it after many of my reader friends gushed about it, but I thought the ending was so implausible...very disappointed, but I was definitely in the minority regarding that one.

I'm finishing up Ready Player One. I've really enjoyed it, but this beautiful weather has kept me outside a lot over the past week and I haven't been reading as much as I normally do. I'm starting Part 3 though and hoping to finish today so I can get into The Returned.

Kyra Hay | 41 comments Liz,
Sharp Objects was a much more interesting read. It was very disturbing though. I finished it within a day and am now looking forward to reading Dark Places.

Good to know! I will have to add that to my list then. I thought Flynn was a pretty good write, just wasn't a huge fan of Gone Girl.

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments We are in Myrtle Beach and I am reading Ender's Game while I am looking out at the ocean view. So far I really like it because it reminds me of my son. He would like to read this too I think. For a family book, I am reading Found (the missing) by Haddox, to the children.

message 12: by Liz (new)

Liz (liz_the_librarian) Ender's Game is such a great book! I hope you don't know how it ends because it'll hit you like a ton of bricks, and there's nothing like experiencing that in a book for the first time.

message 13: by Julie (new)

Julie | 130 comments Agreed, Ender's Game is fantastic. I wasn't sure if I would like it at first, but then I got sucked right in and had trouble putting it down. No spoilers here, but let us know what you think!

message 14: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments I have no idea how Ender's Game ends, but now I am going to want to get there to find out!

message 15: by Ann (new)

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I am currently rereading Jeaniene Frost's Halfway to the Grave, and will probably work my way through the series. There are several series that I enjoy reading, but have lost track of the new books as they come out. I hope to reread them and then get caught up.

message 16: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Penn (jenniferpenn) | 41 comments Currently deciding which book in my stack I just picked up from the library I want to start. I just finished The Black Girl Next Door: A Memoir by Jennifer Baszile. It was interesting but not really a pull me in kind of read. I'm currently 22 books in and really trying to broaden my reading material because I tend to get caught up in romances.

message 17: by Traci (new)

Traci (tardis1974) I finished Ashfall, which was a quite good adventure story that reminded me of those great (and sometimes cheesy) disaster movies that were big in the eighties.

I began Starter for Ten last night and stayed up way into the night reading it. It's a really fun read so far. I'll definitely be looking for more from David Nicholls.

One Day was really good if you're looking for another Nicholls book. Very quick and witty dialogue with interesting plot turns.

Liz (liz_the_librarian) I finished NOS4A2 last night and was bummed it had to end. What a great book! I highly recommend it for anyone who likes horror, especially when it involves serial killers.

I started the second Discworld novel last night, The Light Fantastic. I'm really liking the series, but I'm anxious about the time-investment required to get through the series... there are currently 40 full-length novels in the Discworld saga.

message 20: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments I have NOS4A2 on my kindle. Maybe I will read that after. Ender's Game.

Funny you say that, I just checked it out on Overdrive to listen to while I do some sewing for an upcoming fundraiser. Guess I will start it tomorrow.

message 22: by Liz (new)

Liz (liz_the_librarian) NOS4A2 really got me in the mood to start reading more horror. So I picked up a few Stephen King novels, which I hope to get to soon.

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments I listened to Under the Dome on CD & it was mesmerizing.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've been thinking about reading it, but I've heard really mixed things. I know King's writing style really changed after his accident in 1999, so I think I'm going to focus on his earlier works first and work my way into his more recent stuff.
