I honestly have no idea what Michael will bring to us in the next book. I'm guessing it has to do with Brittney seeing as she was the ending part of the book. Something will happen with her and she'll probably become one of the more main characters of the story.
Of course Sam, Astrid, Caine, Diana, and all the others will be in it too. Seeing as they're the main characters of course.
I could sit here all night and ponder what happens. I have no idea at all. Here's some totally random thoughts.
1. Astrid might realize or her powers might come at a higher level.
2. Of course there is a reason why the third book is to be called LIES. Somebody is going to betray somebody. Either from Sam's side or Caine's side...I do not know.
3. I have a feeling that Sam will always natrually be the leader of Perdido Beach and the FAYZ. Even though he's stepped down from his job of being a mayor, I feel that he's always going to be the hero and the leader. He's going to be the one to get them through what's happening next.
4. My friend and I came up with this wild idea that Astrid might be the one to betray...or tell the LIES, so to speak. We thought it'd be a great twist. Now don't give me wrong, I love Astrid. I think she and Sam are the cutest couple in the world. But what would the Perdido Beach kids do without her? She's the brains and the smarts of the whole FAYZ. Sam is smart but not as smart as her. Perdido Beach needs her so if she leaves it would leave them in total badness. And the heartbreaking pain that Sam would feel when his girlfriend leaves him would be a nice effect.
Again, I have no idea what will happen. I'm just a mere fan guessing. I'll probably have more to say later but for now...I just finished the book about ten minutes ago. I need time to think about it.
oh yeah i realized that after i commented hahaha =]
and i think the darkness will come back
or it wont stop haunting everyones mind
that would suuuccckkkk haha and britteny is the one who was buried alive right? (shudder) that would suck too. hahahah but yes someone important will definatly betray someone and i personally think it will be from Sam's side because we wouldnt care if it was from caines right? or maybe itll be a big lie in general....like the darkness or something told them something incorrect, or they will figure out theyve been lied to the whole time about something in the FAYZ.
im so exicted thats all i can say!

With Drake gone I think Michael will have to bring us a new thing, probably even darker. The books are getting darker and more eerie. I mean book for is PLAGUE. That one has got to be hecka creepers. Somebody big or something big is going to arrise, and of course a big lie will be a huge part of LIES. I wonder who it is being lied to and I'm almost sure that the one being lied to will be Sam, seeing as he's the main hero and main character.
I don't think that the Darkness is going to come back. The whole point of the book HUNGER was defeating the Darkness. Having it come back would just make their whole book long effort be useless. I don't think Michael would do that to us or to his fictional characters.
I was just thinking last night that Astrid's big one five is coming up soon, or her poof. She said in GONE that night when she was on the balcony with Sam, that her birthday was in March and time is approaching March in the FAYZ right now, right? I'm wondering what will happen when Astrid turns 15. I wonder if she'll able to fight the temptation.

"
I reckon that either the Darkness comes back quater reformed or a new threat.

When Caine killed Drake, Drake was in the mine with the Darkness, when it colapsed, so maybe in LIES, i dunno, Drake somehow survives and the Darkness lives on in Drake. thats just a guess, but i diffinatly think someone will betray someone.

Sam gets an email from his mom.
I dont know if its true, but wouldnt that be cool!
I cant WAIT to read LIES!!!

Where did you read that Sam gets an email from his mom? That sounds REALLY interesting! I love Sam, so (:

i actually reckon now that either a sickness comes and sickens everybody or most people become "mutants" (didn't want to say freaks) and the HC has to be moved out.

Oh and yea, something about Little Petey's game boy plays a role in book three, says Michael.
Yea this is the words that Michael wrote about killing Drake: Kill Drake? Stephen King just named him one of his top villains in Entertainment Weekly. (Honorable mention -- beaten out by Voldemort and Sauron.)
Come on, there must be something lovable about Drake. Or not.

And dont forget about Brittany!!! What up with her?
Is she like some paralized Zombie that can hear but cant move, yet? Whoo Hoo! Drake beat out Voldemort and Sauron! What I think is so scary about Drake is that hes my age, he just fourteen, and to be that messed up at that age is just freaky.
Although being stuck in a place like the FAYZ, that would mess with you.

Whatever is going on with Brittany is really creeping me out. She's like immortal (a zombie or something) and nobody knows..She's buried alive! I cannot wait for LIES to see what's really going on.

I WANT IT NOW ;) its gonna be so good.

I cant put it down till Im done!
I finished Hunger the day I got it, I pre-ordered it and I was soo happy to get it that I finished it the same day.

And yeah, I have read some books too quickly for my liking. I hate doing it but I get so caught up in the book that I end up reading the whole thing. And then I'm mad at myself.

i take a week to read both about 3 hours a day = 5 chapters

I think that Brittney will play a role in the next book. At least, I hope she does. Otherwise that part will seem pointlessly creepy.

Which I hope she doesnt. I love Caine!!

But that whole buried alive thing really freaked me out. I'm a bit claustrophobic when I think of being buried alive. *shudders*

But that whole buried alive thing real..."
woa yes that creeped me out...
and i hope drake actually comes back cause he was like bull by the horns guy and did all the dirty work. haha even though he was evil. and i love caine! i just think he has brotherly issues with sam :D haha and darkness maybe wont come back per se...but maybe it can still reach those minds who have been tampered with and control them...? idk. just a thought. and ohhh!! i wanna know who dies!

1. Brittany. She's complicated. I think she's a moof whose power is immortality. It's the only rational explanation. On the other hand, Michael Grant must have kept her alive for some reason. The obvious example is so that she can kill Caine. That doesn't make sense, though, since that's what she thinks she's supposed to do. It's the obvious answer, and the obvious answer is almost never the correct one. That said, I'm as clueless as anyone else on what she is supposed to do. It'll have to be within the next book or 2, though. It would be weird if it's not until LIGHT that her continued life (if you can call it that) makes any sense.
2. Mike. Remember him? Caine's hostage who got away, then tried to help kill Hunter? He was practically a member of the Human Crew. Diana read both him and Mickey and said that one of them might be a 1-bar. She just said "the one might be a 1-bar", she didn't specify whether it was Mike or Mickey. Wouldn't it be ironic if it was Mike (who's in the Human Crew or close to it), and he became a more powerful freak in LIES? But that he maybe "lies" about his power. After all, it's all about deception.
3. I've been trying to put together who's lied about stuff in previous books. My first shocker was that Astrid has been lying to everyone about her power and Little Pete's. She's got most people fooled into thinking she's a normal and he's just an autistic baby, when she's a reader like Diana (not quite - Diana reads power, and Astrid reads fate - but close enough), and Petie is the most powerful kid in the FAYZ. We don't know his power level, but he's more powerful than Sam and Caine. Definitely more than a 4-bar. She just seems like the most unlikely character to go around telling lies, but she already has. Maybe she tells her fair share of "lies" in LIES.
4. Supplies. Okay, so Perido Beach has food. For a while. Until they hunt the animals to extinction and pick all the crops. It's up to those with a brain, like Albert and Astrid, to make sure that this doesn't happen. But food isn't everything. I like Albert's plan with the batteries and the toilet paper, but no matter how much you collect, it won't last forever. What are they going to do when factory-made supplies run out? For that matter, what do they do when kids get fed up enough that they start to mind eating fish and cabbage?
5. On a similar topic, what about Caine's group? They're living in an old school. They certainly don't have a bunch of extra stuff. They dont even have real clothing, they type that normal kids wear! (or it would appear so, since they wear their school uniforms all the time. One would think that, when the adults vanished, some of the kids' first step would have been to change into a t-shirt and jeans.) And if they run out of good shoes or batteries or whatever, how long do you think it will take Caine to have the Perdido Beach town hall surrounded?
6. Sort of the same thing as #5. Orsay left Coates for food. She was afraid of Caine and Diana and Drake (with good reason), but she still turned traitor. Coates still doesn't have food. We know Diana won't leave Caine, but how long will it take for the rest of the kids to either go cannibalistic or go over to the "townie" side?
7. I read somewhere that a "false prophet" will be telling them the only way out is death. But isn't he right? The only way out of the FAYZ is the poof, which could very well be death. Either that or my personal theory that I'll discuss later, which is probaly even worse. As far as real death (suicide, starvation, drake-beat-me-with-his-whip-hand, etc), that's also an escape. I'm not going to get into religion here, but it goes to whatever you believe comes after death. We know that Bette, EZ, and the other dead kids are certainly not still in the FAYZ. So in a way, that's an excape, too. But just the fact that he was called a "false prophet" indicates that there is another way out - one that doesn't kill you.
8. The "poof". Do they all die? I think not. Do they go back to the old universe? Don't be so idealistic. My personal theory is that they're taken somehow by the gaiaphage. Either driven insane or enslaved or something along those lines. The big question is what happens now? I don't think the gaiaphage is really dead. If it were dead, wouldn't the poofed people (assuming my theory is right) re-appear, the FAYZ wall come down (possibly - depends how much was Petey and how much was the G Monster), and the powers go away?
9. The powers. They obviously come from the Gaiaphage, either directly or indirectly. But what I'm worried about is the power-levels. 1, 2, 3, and 4. It goes higher than that, but 4 is the highest Diana's ever read. Don't they correlate almost too well with the warning codes at the power plant? Astrid explained them to sam as "Code 1-1 is minor trouble. 1-2 your worry. 1-3 you call the governer. 1-4 your pray. The next stage, code 1-5, is ... oblitteration." The power levels seem to work in basically the same way. 1-bar is minor power, nothing to worry about. I'd say Bette was probably a 1-bar. All she could do was make her fingers glow. 2-bar is probably about average. They can use their powers within a small range and have relatively effective results. We know Jack and Astrid are 2-bars, and probably Diana as well, although she can't read herself. 3-bars are pretty powerful, so if one of them's after you, you call for help. We know Andrew and Orsay were 3-bars, and probably Lana as well. 4 bars are almost the most powerful. Unless you're another 4-bar, you've got no chance of defeating them. Sam and Caine are the only known 4-bars. Petey is unknown, but let's call him 5 for the moment, just for purposes of creating what Astrid would call an "apt analogy". He was powerful enough to create the FAYZ, after all. And he litterally oblitterated the cement bricks. I guess I'd say that, if you've got Sam's talent with the light, a 1-bar can make their fingers glow or create balls of light, a 2-bar can mabye shoot out a little light to burn something close by, a 3-bar can burn things with slightly more force, but still within a short range, a 4-bar has Sam's level of power (burning pretty much anything flammable, with a wide range), and a 5-bar would be able to burn through the FAYZ wall. Or with Lana's power for healing, a 1-bar would be able to cure minor injuries like cuts and scrapes, a 2-bar could cure infections and more serious injuries, a 3-bar (I'm considering Lana one of these) could cure mortally injured people, a 4-bar could cure you of anything, including illness (not just injury), and could cure more quickly than Lana, and a 5-bar could bring back the dead.
10. My last point is that Lana cannot cure sickness as well as she can cure injury. She had cured 2 kids of food poisining, but she said she was better with real wounds. This indicates that she will not be able to cure the PLAGUE.

I just really hope that Britnay doesnt kill Caine, I love Caine! The third book seems more intence than the others, I cant wait!! I hope Astid develops a power, that be cool.
I hope we can find out more about Diana, she's my favorite character!
