My name is Heather, and I am from Kansas City. I love reading all genres of books, and am always looking for a good book!
I used to read for pleasure often while in school, but have had issues keeping it up near the end of my degree. I'm looking to get back into the habit of reading again, and was looking for good suggestions and stumbled upon this group.
My reading goal for 2016 is 25 books for turning 25!
I can't wait to begin exploring new adventures with the group this year!

Amy, I used to live in the Bay Area. It's such an awesome place.

I'm Georgia, and I am from Australia. I have been on Goodreads for a while, but I have mostly just been using it to keep track of the books I own/have read, and I am excited to explore this community!
I love all kinds of books, but I particularly love fantasy and young adult. I would love to get into crime, but I don't really know where to start, so if anyone has some good recommendations that would be awesome!
happy reading everyone :)

I am Serena and live in the UK. I like to read gay fiction and romance, with the occasional science fiction, young adult, and nonfiction title for variety. The group popped up in one of my friends' posts, and I got curious. :-)
My reading goal for 2016 is 700, the same as 2015 when I read 707 books. It was tough enough to make it a challenge to do the same thing again. I've been doing the personal reading challenge since 2011 and have loved it every year.

I am from India. I Joined on to Goodreads at September 2015.
I love to read a lot, it is one of my favorite hobbies to do. I have been reading as small child, and I always will.
I love reading things about Art, Biography, Business, Chick-lit, Children's, Christian, Classics, Comics, Contemporary, Cookbooks, Crime, Ebooks, Fantasy, Fiction, Graphic novels, Historical fiction, History, Horror, Humor and Comedy, Memoir, Music, Mystery, Non-fiction, Poetry, Psychology, Religion, Romance, Science, Science fiction, Self help, Suspense, Spirituality, Sports, Thriller, Travel, and Young-adult so basically every book! But my favorites are horror, humor and graphic novels.
I found this group by recommendation from by friends.
My reading goal is to read 60 books this 2016.

My taste in books is pretty eclectic now, but mysteries and suspense are still my favorites. I look forward to sharing a love of reading with all of you this year!

Im rebecca and im from the US, midwest.
My favorite genre is probably described as literary fiction. My favorite book from last year was "all the light we cannot see"
I found this group looking for reading challenges. I would like to branch out a little. Always looking for recommendations
Thanks!

If you don't know where to start, feel free to answer these questions:
- Where are you ..."n United States
I love to read Historical Fiction, Crime Fiction and Suspense. I have a goal of reading one book a month.
Thank you for allowing me to join this group with mutual book lovers!

I am an elementary school teacher so my reading lately has centered around non-fiction teaching books, YA books, fluff books or books that I have already read. I do read a lot of romance books because they are quick and always happy. However I don't like the romance books that have silly weak women in them. Too much silly romance and I want to throw up. I like books that have witty humor and mystery. I am careful about reading books that bring a negative or depressing feeling to the reader as I tend to take on the feelings of the characters even after I close the book. However I find that by stepping out of my comfort zone I do occasionally find great books. For example: the book On the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is not one that I would normally read, but it was on a book club list that I attended a couple of times. I found it very enjoyable and thought provoking.
I am looking forward to joining challenges (time allowing) and looking through lists of books that others have read to find more literature treasures.

My name is Lucija and I'm from Croatia.
I'm a real mood reader, and I read many books at a time. My favorite genre has got to be Fantasy, and I read a lot of NA.
I also like LGBT+ themed books, and I've always been interested in history, so a historical novel here and there definitely does not hurt. I don't read a lot of non-fiction but I'm open to try it in the close future.
My goal for this year is to read 140 books, but that isn't definite yet because right now that seems like a HUGE number of books. (Graphic novels will probably save me)
Also this year I would love to read a lot of classics because so far I haven't had the chance to read many of them.
And I would love to chat, so add me and maybe we can buddy read something?

My name is River, I'm 27 years old and live in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). I've never been part of a bookclub but looking forward to do so. I'm a little overwhelmed by all the challenges, but i'm enthusiastically finding my way.
My favorite genres are romance, dystopian, YA, fantasy/paranormal, LGBT and occasionally a good thriller.
I'm very open to recommendations or buddy reading, let me know :-)

I like many different genres of books. I love History and Nonfiction, but for the last few years I've been in a Young Adult rut. Now I really want to read some good adult fiction. I hope to read at least a book a month this year (It's one of my resolutions). I'm starting with The Martian now :)
I look forward to this year of reading and talking to some of you. Happy New Year!

My name is Tyna, and I am turning 44 in 4 days. I'm a married mother of two teenagers and have recently quit my job in finance to become a new college student. I'm an avid book reader and enjoy many genres, particularly Urban Fantasy, Murder Mystery and Political Thrillers. I have a soft spot for YA romance :) Once upon a time, I loved the classics, but I have found that since having children, my ability to focus on meatier subjects has faltered. I've noticed that my book choices over the last few years have been mostly brain candy, but I'm having difficulty finding new authors on my own. I'm hoping that joining this group will aid me in expanding my mental and reading horizons!

I read pretty much anything except romance novels. No Harlequin is read by me. I'm always looking for new books/authors to read. Constantly search my local library for new authors. Even the cheap/discounted books at book stores have introduced me to new authors.
I wanted to join an interesting group and saw this on the front page when I clicked on groups. Seemed like a good fit to me.
I have set a goal of reading 35 books. Every year I have participated I've added 5 books to the next year. Mainly because I've always gone over anyways so it was easy.
I was working on the Gilmore Girls Book Challenge but have put that on hold to read mainly Stephen King (in the order they were released) this time around, with the odd book thrown in.
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else is reading, might give me some more ideas.

-Where are you from? Louisiana
- What kinds of books do you like to read? Fiction, especially historical fiction.
- How did you find our group? Looking for reading challenge with no strict rules for gaining points, etc. I just want to read and reach my goal.
- What's your reading goal? Last year I tried for 52 but only finished 32... this year I'm going for 50.
Random fact: I'm a confessed book sniffer :-)

I am Hanna, a 26 year old Swede. I love reading, but have lost the habit of reading the past two years. I have made a promise to myself to get back into reading books - good ones and lots of them! Joined this group to get and share good recommendations and to discuss with other readers.
I like to read political books, psychology, philosophy, society, biographies and poetry.
My goal is to get into reading again, read at least one book per month and to read more books from non-western authors.

I am from Kentucky. My favorite genres are non-fiction/history, westerns and career related books. I am a very slow reader, and my goal for joining the group is to keep me accountable to reach my 2016 Reading Challenge, which is 10 books.

My name is Emily. I live in Washington state.
I like many different kinds of books. I'd say the genres I read most from are Fantasy and YA. I would definitely like to read more from new genres.
My new years resolution is to stop watching TV as much and read more instead, so I have set a 25 book goal this year. I've already got one down(though I started reading it before I made the goal). Whoo!

I am happy to read and love all different genres and themes of books that I just can't really pick a favourite. I have favourite books not genres and my favourite of all time (at the moment) is Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger.
I upped from my completed goal of 30 books last year to 40 this year just to try and ease my way back up to 40. Hopefully I can achieve it.
Happy reading guys and I look forward to talking to you guys :)

My name is Lissette and I am from Southern California. I personally enjoy reading novels from the Young Adult section or classical novels. I use to vividly read novels back in 2010, but since then I rarely have opened a book. Well, I just started to read once again and am hoping to return to reading on a regular basis. Back in 2010 I read 46 books in a four month period and I am hoping to read as much throughout the whole year. I am open to reading all sorts of novels and genres this year so I can expand my reading. Looking forward to reading and possibly discussing novels throughout the year. :)

This is Mahi, well i'm not exactly new to goodreads but i've never looked at this seriously . So in a sense i'm new as i'm just getting to know all about this. I'm from India, I like reading nearly all genres but currently i'm eyeing classics, hence reading One hundred years of solitude and Love in the time of cholera is waiting in by bookshelf. Also I have a busy schedule , hence my humble goal is to read at least a book a month.
Good to meet you all :)

I'm David, and I'm from the UK.
I mainly read crime and thriller books, although I've began to branch out and read new authors and genres. That's one of the reasons of joining this group, to hear about what other people have read and get inspiration about books I wouldn't normally have been drawn to. I also read children's books with my 18 month old son, some of which are pretty good (I never realised the Winnie the Pooh books were so funny).
My target for this year is only 20 books. I beat my target last year of 14, so I'm looking to increase this year. I tend to go through periods of reading a lot, followed by periods of not reading much at all. I want to keep the reading going more this year. Currently I'm reading In the Woods by Tana French.

I'm Amy from Massachusetts. As a doctoral candidate in history, most of my reading focuses on historical monographs, pre-1820s literature, and the occasional autobiographies and biographies. In my limited reading spare time I like graphic novels, comics, and short story collections - pretty much anything that I can read in short spurts!
For this year I'm hoping to read 52 books (at least one per week!). I think tracking my actual reading habits will be really interesting, plus I'm in a competition with my partner to see who can read the most for fun (he's set a goal of 25 books).

I'm Elis, and I live in the US. If you see someone with her nose in a book while she's standing in a checkout line, it's probably me.
I love historical fiction, and my favorite authors research their periods well, so that you almost feel like you've lived in the times. I geek out over authentic details (Do you know how Georgian ladies kept those huge, intricate hairstyles in place? Glue--I kid you not! And glue in those days did NOT smell good!) I especially like reading about women in times past, like Isabella MacDuff, who had the courage to defy a king, and spent four years hanging in a cage over a city gate for her trouble. Or Matilda of Flanders, whose husband allegedly wooed her by pulling her off her horse by her braid and roughing her up, after which she would have no other suitor (go figure). I love a good mystery or thriller, lots of action. Not so keen on stories that revolve entirely around romantic angst unless the story really engages MY emotions.
I'm also a bit wonky about current events, mostly because learning about history can add an interesting, sometimes alarming perspective. For example, this isn't the first time a tiny fraction of the population had most of the wealth and all the power. You'll find it at the root of nearly every social and economic upheaval including the Reign of Terror and the Great Depression. As the great Lemony Snicket once said, those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it.
Anyway, if you know of any great historical novels set earlier than the 20th Century, clue me in. I read a LOT, and I'm always hunting for new favorite authors.
Thanks!

I am not at all discriminatory when it comes to reading. I will read any book you put into my hands. I'm on a bit of a fantasy kick right now, so any suggestions on authors or series I should try are appreciated.
I teach middle/high school so I try to stay up to date on young adult books, so I can suggest/talk about them with my kids. Any suggestions in that area are also appreciated.
My goal is to read 52 books this year, although I'm not following strictly with any specific challenge. I'm also trying to be more involved in discussions, so I look forward to talking about books with people who actually like to read! :)

I adore Goodreads for organizing all the things I want to read and helping me prioritize my book habit. I'm a mom of 5 mostly grown kiddos, (the youngest is 16 and still at home) and grandmother to 2 and one more on the way, so I try to keep up with kid and YA books and those are on my list. I work as a Photographer's Assistant and Retoucher so I like books on Photography and Photoshop too.
As far as genre, I like:
Fiction
YA Fiction
Children's Books
Classics
Historical
Mystery
Non-Fiction and Self Help books
Religious Books
Poetry
Cookbooks
I don't do:
Series Romance or Series Fantasy. I like to be surprised with the plot line.
Horror. I'm old and I don't need nightmares keeping me up at night.
Anything with gore, pornography and/or profanity. There is so much ugliness in the world, I don't need any more in my head.
If you like what I like, feel free to recommend. :)
