caitlin; Hi, I'm Caitlin and I'm new to the group.

I love reading different genres of fiction but mostly stay in my safety zone of fantasy etc, so would like to branch out a little!

message 354: by Becky (new)

Becky | 131 comments Hi! My name is Becky, I am from the U.S.

This is my first time joining a group on goodreads so we will see if I can figure everything out. I love to read but have a very active three year old son so I'm hoping that this group will be able to keep me on track with my reading goal.

Can't wait to get started.

message 355: by Lori (new)

Lori Wilen | 97 comments Hello fellow(ess) readers:

I am Lori from the USA - currently residing in Maryland. This is my first time doing a challenge, belonging to a group, doing anything on this site so I am going to need a lot of hand holding.

I love Amish fiction, christian fiction, thrillers, crime, world war 2, women's issues, chick lit, romance. Better to say what I don't like....sci fi, fantasy, time travel and some of the old classics. I particularly loathe The Great Gatsby. I bet that will get me kicked out.

Yes, I have a zany sense of humor and hope to meet the challenge and meet new people along the way while broadening my reading horizons,

Happy new 2016 reading year!!!!

message 356: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone and happy new year!

I'm Susa and I'm from Finland. I'm new to Goodreads, I just recently decided to actually use this account and set a goal to read 52 books by the end of the year. :-)

I read all kinds of books but my favorite genres are fantasy, scifi and historical fiction.

message 357: by Lee (new)

Lee McLean-Houle (leemcleanhoule) | 18 comments Hi
My name is Lee and I am from Connecticut, USA. I have been a part of Goodreads for years now but I haven't utilized it well. My wife invited me to this group so I am going to try and keep up.

I favorite genres are romance, fantasy, some scoff, romantic historical fiction and I delve into erotic and BDSM books.

I think since this is a first for me here I will start with 12 books. If I hit that goal, I will update it.

Thanks for this group. It will be a great 2016. Happy New Year!

message 358: by Emily (new)

Emily Clarke | 3 comments Hi all. I joined tonight and would like to start the book challenge. I have two full bookcases that I plan to get through this year.

message 359: by Emily (new)

Emily Clarke | 3 comments Hi all. I joined goodreads in August but it took the new year to get me here to join the reading challenge. I had somewhat shelved reading while I was finishing my own book. My challenge is to clear out two bookcases of books so I can justify buying more. Hope to connect with some readers here. I'm very partial to Southern fiction and open to recommendations.

message 360: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn Hi there, My name is Kathryn and I've just gotten back into the book world. I'm from New Zealand which sucks sometimes because a lot of books aren't sold here. My favourite genre is YA fantasy and my 2016 reading goal is 50 books.

message 361: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 26 comments Hello my lovelies!

My name is Daniel and it's nice to meet you all. I am a blogger from Nebraska, I'm currently writing a fiction series on the blog that is on semi-hiatus.

I tend to read books that are slightly older, such as the Star Trek series or Mercedes Lacky's Valdemar series. Science fiction and fantasy are my primary genres, but a close second are murder mysteries and historical fiction. I also endeavor to read LGBTQUIA fiction whenever possible, I usually end up with toads though.

I found the group just by poking through Goodreads groups. I was looking, in essence, for a reading group. Most reading groups I find are reading newer books while I'm sitting here with years of paperbacks to sort though.

My goal for this year was set by the boyfriend, 150. That is kinda a magic number to me. In recent years the most I've read has been 68, slightly over a third of this years total. I'm also hoping to set a secondary goal where for every two ebooks I read, I read one physical book. I am also trying to set a goal of not rereading books, possibly even having them subtract from my total.

message 366: by Katie (new)

Katie | 10 comments Hi, I'm Katie from Scotland. I've been on Goodreads for a year but haven't actually joined groups or talked to people on here before and thought it was about time I did.

I joined and managed to complete the popsugar reading challenge partway through the year on habitrpg last year, and wanted to do some similar challenges this year - just because I like challenges, I guess.

My favourite genre is fantasy - YA and non-YA - but excluding paranormal romance. I also read a lot of classics. I work in theatre, so I read a lot of plays and non-fiction relating to theatre as well. Currently I've got about 10 books on the go, all of which belong to the library, so I really need to get better at finishing what I start!

message 367: by Katy (new)

Katy (kittykat21) Hello!

I'm Katy, from Lancashire, UK.
I love to read a wide range of genres but my favourites are, Fantasy and Historical Fiction.
My reading goal for this year is to tackle my TBR stack in my closet!
I found this group while I was looking for something to help motivate me to complete my 2016 challenge.

My goal for this year is to read 50 books and to buy more hardbacks. (I have way too many paperbacks :D)

I mostly read YA books, but I really want to begin reading classics and adult fiction. So I guess that is also a goal for 2016

message 372: by Susan (new)

Susan Gilbert | 16 comments Hi my name is Susan and I live in England. I have joined this group as i really wanted to do the Popsugar Reading Challenge. I am pretty new to Goodreads so still figuring it out. I like reading mysteries, crime a bit of chick lit but like to try anything

message 373: by Maria Adaway (new)

Maria Adaway (maria-valerie) hi, my name is Maria and I'm from London, UK

My favourite genres are what you would associate with a "typical fangirl." So I love fantasy and sci-fi and dystopian books. I also love contemporary and admittedly, quite sad ones as well.

This year I'm hoping to broaden my horizon and find different genres and authors to read, rather than stick to the same ones

message 374: by Pao (new)

Pao (pao_letta) | 32 comments Hi all,
I'm Pao from Italy and I found out this group while I was browsing through the goodreads groups.
I like novels, biographies and books about sport.
My goal is to read 40 books and I hope this group would help me discover new books and keep pace with my challenge.

message 375: by Anne (last edited Jan 02, 2016 06:17AM) (new)

Anne (arl0401) | 465 comments Hello!

I am Anne and I am from Maryland.

I love all kinds of books, but especially history, historical fiction, self-help, politics, religion, mysteries, and biographies.

I am semi-retired and have more time to read, so I am looking forward to reading some of the longer books on my to-read list. I also want to re-read more old favorites. I try to follow the rule to read an old book after every new book.

My goal is 52 books - a book a week.

Thanks and happy New Year!

message 376: by Kay (new)

Kay | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm from a small town in Wisconsin and work in a library part time. I enjoy reading lots of fiction, historical fiction, cozy mysteries, and non fiction. I tend to stay away from thrillers, science fiction, deep dark mysteries, and romance. Although I've been known to read all of those too! I usually read about one book a week (or more!). I'm always looking for new recommendations. This time of year I like more light escapism to offset the dark of winter! Any ideas?

Happy Reading to all!

message 377: by Rijuta (new)

Rijuta Das | 1 comments Hi. My name is Rijuta and I am a PhD student. I love books and I absolutely love reading! This year my goal is to read at least 200 books.

message 379: by Amber (new)

Amber Prince | 116 comments Hi all
Im Amber 50+ grandmother from Ohio. I love almost all books but have learned if i dont get hooked in first 20 pages to give up and move on. I may pick that book back up at different time but if i dont get hooked then I dont read so it may take me weeks to read that book, better to move on. I also read ebooks and listen to audio books. Ive discovered that i can listen to some books that i had trouble reading. I love horror and murder/mystery. A few of my favs are King, Koontz, Patterson, and Evanovich. I refuse to read the "romance" books as they are all the same basic storyline but i did read quite a few of them when i was younger. I read some non fiction but mostly dog training books as i love dogs and have 2 German shepherds. Ive been a member of good reads for a few years but have had trouble negotiating it so hopefully this year i do better. My goal for the year is for 50 books....approximately one a week. Currently reading Swore to Silence by Linda Castillo, I want to read the whole series. Plan to finish off some other series i have started also. Happy reading all

message 380: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (figra) | 10 comments Hi everyone! I'm a teacher in a special needs school, mother of two boys and a very bossy cat, and a book addict. I live in Scotland, but am originally from Dublin, Ireland. I've always been a reader, ever since my sister (another teacher!) taught me to read and introduced me to Enid Blyton at an early age. I read mostly (but not exclusively) fiction. I enjoy all sorts of genres, and I especially enjoy being recommended books that i would not have picked up otherwise.
I originally joined in 2011, but didn't quite know how to join in. I've decided to give it another go in 2016, have challenged myself to read 52 books this year, and hope to meet some new friends too!

message 381: by Timo Vürmer (new)

Timo Vürmer (timovurmer) My Dear Bookwarms,

Greetings from sunny and cold Tallinn, Estonia. The Sun has just set and tonight is the first eve without one of many holiday events. Finally can sit in front of a fireplace with a glass of wine and a good hardback from a long bookshelf of mine to switch off from this World and wonder the roads of my own Fantasyland.

I am an Estonian, mainly living and working in Helsinki, travelling a lot yet never leave home without a good book or two in my bag for any occasion. It has been so since my childhood. Fantasy, sci-fi, ya, fiction and what ever pops-up in new or best book polls/awards. Am reading in Estonian, Finnish and English.

Haven't been keen user of goodreads so far but as a New Year resolution, promise to be more active here and comment my reads. Modest 20 books has been my target for this year due studies but am hoping to top that.

Warm greetings from crispy cold Tallinn,
Timo

message 382: by Claire (new)

Claire | 1 comments Happy New Year to all!

I'm living in sunny England (predictably raining right now) and joined the end of last year but due to all the festivities, I have only just got round to 'getting involved'.

I have always loved reading...mainly crime (true or not), thriller, psychological - anything with that 'twist in the tail'. Always open to new genres though and have often picked a random book in a charity shop just to give it a try.

I do have a kindle app for the iPad but I love the feel and smell (don't worry I am not a book sniffer in public) of a new book. I also am one of those that always reads the end of the book before I get there as I sooo want to know what happens and can't wait. Any tips on how to stop myself doing this that would be appreciated.

Myself and a friend at work recently started a book club (ok there are only 2 members and the meeting are held in a pub with a bottle of wine and food) but we really enjoy discussing what we have read and what we think of the characters/story and writing style.

My goal this year is to keep trying new books and maybe get another member to join the book club!

Happy Reading :)

Alison Hi everyone,

I am Alison and I am from Baton Rouge, LA (actually Geismar small suburb).

I love to read almost anything except science fiction, just not my thing. My favorites are mystery/psychological thrillers and historical fiction and a good romance every once in awhile.

I love recommendations from people and since I have recently retired I have a lot more time to dedicate to reading.

I found this group as I was searching through the 'groups' list and was looking for a group that is active and not focused on a particular subject. I think I found it....

I'm still working on my reading challenge and look forward to some great discussions and recommendations.

Please feel free to send me a friend request.
