Renee Tudor (reneelkt) Hi! My name is Renee and I'm from the United States. I wanted to join this group for two reasons. 1) I'm hoping if I actually have my reading goals posted where others can see them I will meet those goals! 2) I want to be challenged to read titles from genres other than my favorites of contemporary fantasy, British mystery, and historical. I'm really looking forward to reading with all of you!

Lauren Walker (lwalker23) | 2 comments Hi Everyone!
My name is Lauren and I'm from Louisiana. I enjoy reading all genres but suspense/mystery are my favs. I love to read, and enjoy getting to know others through their thoughts on books. Look forward to making new friends! :)

message 256: by Ella (last edited Dec 27, 2015 01:50PM) (new)

Ella (novemberiridescent) Hi everyone! I'm Ella and I'm 14 years old. I live in Sweden and I read mostly English books, though I try to read as much in Swedish as I can. I read mostly YA, and I enjoy sci-fi a lot.

This year, I'm planning on reading more classics. The challenge I am going to be taking on is the "popsugar reading challenge", which essentially means that you have a list of descriptions of books, for example "a book that came out before you were born" or "a book by an author from Asia".

I hope this challenge and signing up to goodreads will get me out of the reading slump I've been in for the past year.

message 257: by Mark (new)

Mark Bourland | 8 comments Hello all. My name is Mark. I am 61 years old, retired and living in Hernando, Mississippi....about 20 miles from Memphis, TN. I love to read and almost always have 2 or 3 books going at once. Now that I can travel more, I listen to many books on CD while driving on road trips. I particularly enjoy mysteries and action/espionage books. I have decided to participate in the 2016 Book Riot Read Harder Challenge this coming year. It promises to help me "discover genres, authors, and titles I otherwise wouldn’t have picked up." Based on the Challenge checklist, it certainly seems like it will do that. I'm happy to have found this group.

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Welcome, all! We're happy you found our group.

Mark, the Book Riot challenge is one of my favorites!

Katie (never.ending.reading.list) (katie_smo) | 4 comments Hi! I'm Katie, from Chicago. New to this whole goodreads thing but so far I'm loving it (I don't have any friends that are as obsessed with stories as I am).
I've loved books from just about every genre but I particularly like fantasy, classics, horror, biographies, new adult, and history (I'm a history teacher so sometimes they start to feel a bit more like work and take longer to finish).
I'm open to any suggestions, discussions, or simply getting to know people with similar interests!

message 260: by Zackary (new)

Zackary Hey everybody, I'm Zack!
So right now I'm in a self regulated regimen that gets split up into 2 sections. The first section is Hemingway, because I am working on a 2 year research project on his literature. The second is misc. books (usually fiction). So I read 1 Hemingway novel (or 5 of his short stories) and then treat myself with a book of my choice. I just finished up with To Have and Have Not so the next book on my list is Brave New World. Right now I am trying to get through "classics". I mean books such as The Catcher in the Rye, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and 1984. I have also been reading some of the Star Wars novels, which I was skeptical about at first but have found that they are quite enjoyable, especially Darth Plagueis! Anyways, I am so glad to be in the group and look forward to talking to you all!

message 262: by BlackfishGirl (new)

BlackfishGirl Hey all,

My name is Katrin and I tend to ramble, so you've been warned!

I've been a member of GoodReads for a while but didn't use it very much until last year when I resolved to get back to more reading. I've always loved books but in recent years found it very hard to find the time and enthusiasm to read a lot, partially maybe because I had a hard time finding books I really, really love - as a kid I was sorted, just binge read horse books and Enid Blyton. So last year I set myself the goal to read at least a book every 2 weeks. I would have liked to be more ambitious but since I was starting a new job, thought it unwise, so far I've exceeded the target slightly and am currently at 39 books, hoping to break 40 before New Year!

My favourite books are definitely fantasy and somehow I seem to end up more often than not in the YA realm though I hardly fall into that demographic anymore as I rather distressingly hit 30 last year. My favourite book is and will probably always be Lord of the Rings, I'm also a massive Potterhead and Game of Thrones fan, love Neil Gaiman and rather enjoyed the Daughter of Smoke and Bone books this year. Not super keen on syfy, prefer swords and horses to technology and spaceships. Once in a while I like a good chick lit with a bit of magic and the odd thriller since stumbling on Gone Girl but overall prefer to dwell in the magical world. At the other end of the spectrum I also love popular science books and autobiographies, especially by zoologists and naturalists, probably a work interest being a marine biologist myself.

Next year I just want to exceed my total from last year whatever that ends up being, tick a few more classics off the list and may try and complete some reading challenges along the way. I still have a stack of unread charity book buys to get through and my Christmas book haul to get me started!

Hoping that being part of a group will help me achieve my goals and give me some reading inspiration!

message 264: by Mel (last edited Dec 28, 2015 09:48AM) (new)

Mel Steadman Hunt (melhunt182) Hi everyone, my name is Melissa and I'm a 20 year old woman from the UK. l spend the majority of my time while not at work reading or watching Booktube videos (for anyone who doesn't know, that's the name of the book community on YouTube). I joined Goodreads in April 2014 and read usually between 120-150 books a year. This year my goal is 150 and I am 3 books away, and as of right now I am almost finished book 147. So then it's just 2 more to go in 3 days, which I think I can do as I have a couple shorter books planned.

I joined this group so that I can track my 2016 goal with other people and see what everyone else is reading too! My favourite genre's are usually YA Fantasy and all the fantasy sub-genre's, although I do get into other genre's quite often too. My favourite series of all time, like a lot of people, is Harry Potter, and I'll be rereading the series again either at the beginning of the new year or sometime during the first few months.

I am so looking forward to participating more in the group and hopefully chatting with some of you people too!

message 265: by Jolene (new)

Jolene Prince | 1 comments Hi my name is Jolene, I live in western Ny. I have been on goodreads for awhile but decided to join some groups. I like both fiction and non fiction, I mostly like romantic comedies, Romance, mystery, cozy mysteries.

message 266: by Samantha (AK) (new)

Samantha (AK) (samantha_ak) Hey, I'm Samantha (or Sam), and I live in Pittsburgh at the moment.

I enjoy Sci-Fi... (or speculative fiction in general. Fantasy and alternate-history are also fun, but not big on horror.) But I'm open to dabbling in other genres as they catch my interest.

Joined Goodreads a few months ago, saw this group by chance in the 'recently active' block and thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm thinking I'll keep the reading goal low again this coming year--about 25. Could I read more? Probably, but I don't want my outlet to become a chore. ;)

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

message 267: by Zach (new)

Zach | 1 comments Hello, I'm Zach, I live in Michigan. This is my first time doing a reading challenge, so my girlfriend and I decided to both set our number at 20. I'm going through and making a 'to-read' list, so if you guys have any suggestions let me know!

I love horror, sci-fi, war novels, thrillers, and fantasy.

message 268: by [deleted user] (new)

hello!,
My name is Kayla and I'm from a small town in Pennsylvania US. I like to read all types of books from fantasy to horror. I found this group as I was looking for a bookclub/group to join. out of the ones that I was looking at I found this one and it seems like a nice group to join. my reading goal for 2016 is 100 books and about 4 books a month. I am looking forward to being in this group!

I'm looking forward to it. It will make me get outside my comfort zone and try some new stuff. Went to the library this morning and got my first two books....headed for the beach for a week on Wednesday. :o)

Camilla Andersson | 8 comments Hello!

My name is Camilla. I'm from a small town in Sweden. I'm a high school teacher and I teach the Swedish language, history and religion. I like to read because it makes me think about other human beings. I read almost everything.

I joined this group because I like to challenge myself when it comes to reading. I hope this is the place to find new kind of books. And to read 50 books in the year to come will be a challenge.

Happy New Year

message 272: by Alexander (new)

Alexander (quercus) | 32 comments Hi!

I'm Alex from Israel. I like different challenges, so I wanted to find such a group. I used to like reading SF, but recently I've realized that it's not worth binding oneself to one particular kind of books, so it's hard for me to say which book I'll read next.

My goal for the year will be 25 books, and some of them MUST be in Hebrew, the language I've been learning.

message 273: by Mitten (new)

Mitten (fnoof) Hello!

I'm Laura from Finland, I found this group when I saw a friend on GR's "2015 reading challenge" and I did a search for a 2016 one (that doesn't exist yet? but this group did, yay!)

I'm quite an omnivore when it comes to genres (and always have been), although probably read horror the least.

My reading goal for the year is 50 books, this averages about a book a week which should be do-able for me, but it's going to really push me to set time each week for reading so I don't fall behind :) (currently I'll binge in spurts throughout the year which does mean I read less overall than I could)

20 of these books have to be in Finnish by a Finnish author (I'm bilingual but English is my first language and I prettymuch only read in English and I've been soooo terrible about reading anything in Finnish so 2016 is the year I do something about that!)

Looking to meet new people, meet some great news books and maybe participate in discussions and other things as I figure out what all this group has to offer :) Happy new year everyone!

message 274: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Beasley (solicyon) Hi! My name is also Sarah and I just joined this group. I love to read but have a hard time staying on the same book for a long time. I like all genres except science fiction. Some I like but most just bore me. Historical fiction is my favorite as well as thrillers. I just finished Every Crooked Path, the latest book by Steven James and loved it. I'm looking for challenges to keep me reading and am looking for some new books to add to my collection.

message 275: by Geralyn (new)

Geralyn Hesslau Magrady (gmagrady) | 1 comments Hi all! My name is Geralyn. I'm a high school English teacher from Chicago and an avid reader/writer; however, time restraints have kept me from reading and writing as much as I want. I most enjoy historical fiction with a bit of mystery and/or romance. I especially like authors who create strong mood and atmosphere. My goal is to read one book each month, but sometimes the choice might have to be a curriculum decision more than a personal one, like Lord of the Flies and All Quiet on the Western Front. That's okay by me. I'm looking forward to these rereads, and with renewed passion I hope to spark interesting analysis in the classroom. Happy 2016!

Hi Zack. Welcome! I'm trying to go through classic novels too. Currently I'm reading Brave New World. It's a bit of a drag for me, but perhaps you would like it if you enjoy reading dystopian novels.

message 277: by Cecilia (last edited Dec 28, 2015 06:50PM) (new)

message 278: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 1 comments I'm Brooke from Indiana in the USA. I like using goodreads for recommendations as I don't have any specific genre: I like medical thrillers, best selling fiction authors like Kristin Hannah and Liane Moriarty, Christian inspirational, and O'Reillys "Killing ***" series. One of my groups' activity has dwindled thus I'm really missing the online chatter from other readers. I'm happy to have found this group. I read 26 books in 2015 and have recently put Facebook and other social media on the back burner in favor of reading so my goal for 2016 is 40 books!

message 280: by Barry (new)

Barry Mann (boozybazz) Hello everyone!
I’m Bazz, a bus driver from Leeds, over 30 years married and on the wrong side of 50. I’ve just started on Goodreads and I am using it to list all the books that I read from here on; so none of my past reads, a pretty extensive list, appear yet. I plan to reread my past favourites so they will appear in the future.
My favourite genre is Science Fiction but I also enjoy Historical and Crime novels, and anything a little bit quirky. At present I’m reading Q by Luther Blissett (apparently a nom de plume for a group of authors) and thoroughly enjoying it: this is the first, and only, book in my Goodreads account so far; and only on my Currently Reading shelf.
For my 2016 reading challenge I hope to read 25 books during the year, not a massive number but it’s all I usually manage in a year.

message 281: by Asiuol (new)

Asiuol K Hello, everyone. I'm Louisa from Australia. Even though I read all kinds of books, I'm really into non-fiction at the moment - especially if it's History or Sociology. I have a review blog, which I neglected for a while so I decided to participate in a reading challenge. After searching Goodreads for about a minute, I found this. My reading goal is to 100 books. If I reach this goal, I am going to buy myself a bookcase so wish me luck.

Hi everyone! I'm Sadie from London :) I'm new here so still trying to work out how this all works.
I'm into most genres, mostly fantasy, supernatural and a bit of romance.
I used to read all the time, but since having starting uni I haven't been reading as much as I would have liked.
My reading challenge for 2016 is to read at least 2 books a month :)

message 285: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 1 comments Hello! I'm new to the group. I read many genres, my favorites are historical fiction and spirituality (such as yoga, Don Miguel Ruiz, Paulo Coehlo).

message 286: by Lotte (new)

Lotte Downey | 39 comments Hi! I am Lotte, originally from the Netherlands, but live in Madison, Wisconsin with my husband, son, dog, 2 cats and a bearded dragon (yikes).

I love reading and would say mysteries, action, and historical fiction are my favorite genres. I both read and listen to audible. Especially on long drives, listening to a book is much more fun than listening to music.

I am planning on reading 35 books in 2016 (trying to increase my goal every year). Looking to join the pages read challenge also.

Happy reading!

message 287: by Fr. Andrew (last edited Dec 29, 2015 08:50AM) (new)

Fr. Andrew (nitesead) I don't know if I used to be in this group or not. I started some challenges way back, then worried that I was setting impossible goals and thought it best to chill out. Well since then I've joined a bunch of challenges in other groups, and blah blah this story is getting dull! Anyway, my name is Andrew and I've become a book-aholic, and I don't want to end this addiction...I want to dive deeper into it! Because frankly the real world is boring and I've recently accepted that I hate the writing process and I've been pressuring myself to write a novel. I don't want to write a novel, I don't even need to write a novel...I want to enjoy reading!

So here I am. I'm setting my 2016 reading goal at 101 books. I read lots of graphic novels in addition to "regular" books. I just finished an interesting novel called Everything is Free by Adele Ward on my Kindle. It's loaded with sad sack, interesting characters, suspense, and some redemption at the end to make it hopeful. I am mostly attracted to engrossing writing more than specific genres. Currently I'm reading a Hugo-nominated scifi novel called Calculating God by Robert Sawyer. Topically, I guess I gravitate toward religion/spirituality, queer topics, supernatural, Asia, and philosophy, but as I say, I'm not really loyal to anything specifically. I finished more than my share of crappy trash novels this year!

I'll create my folder in the 101+ folder so I can start tracking on Friday. Thanks for being here!

message 288: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Kass | 26 comments Hi my name is Rachel! I am from Milwaukee Wisconsin. I enjoy all types of books but my favorites are historical fiction, biographies and memoirs, general fiction, suspense, and science fiction. I found the group by browsing good reads. My reading goal is 75 books in 2016!-

message 289: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Welcome everyone!

Andrew - I look forward to getting some graphic novel recommendations from you. 2015 was the first year I really got into them... I started with Neil Gaiman's Sandman series and have been slowly branching out from there.

message 290: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Wedertz (scrappinpatw) | 19 comments my name is Pat. I was born in PA, went to college in IN and currently live in OH. I enjoy reading almost any type of book... I like to switch it up! I set my 2015 goal at 50 and am going to end the year having read 80! I think I am going to aim for 100 for 2016. I am currently trying to get approved for disability, so I have more time to read.

How marvelous! I started collecting Sandman individual issues on a whim when they were first coming out, and that was a very lucky whim indeed! Unfortunately, there are big gaps in my collection, so I plan to start from the beginning with the graphic novels. This will probably happen in 2016.

If you liked those, I highly recommend looking for The Last One by J.M. DeMatteis. Might be difficult to find, but well worth it! Here's part of what I wrote about it after reading it: "I cannot think another comic book that comes close to touching the emotional depth that this reaches. I do not think I've ever cried reading a comic book before. Deeply affecting, deeply human, deeply transcendent."

message 293: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (loumagoo) | 26 comments Hi there! My name is Amanda, I'm 16, and I'm from Northern California. I've recently been reading mostly of YA, but with school I haven't really found that time to read for fun so I'm not exactly sure which genres I love. I'm really hoping that setting a goal for myself will help me rekindle my love for books =) My goal is to read at least 2 books a month, not including books I have to read for my classes, and at least 30 books in 2016. Feel free to send me a friend request. Looking forward to exploring all of the challenges! =)

message 294: by Sandi (last edited Dec 30, 2015 09:17AM) (new)

Sandi Ramirez (sandiramirez) | 9 comments Hi My name is Sandi I was in this group last year. I was a quite member I mainly used the group to keep track of the books I read as I am recovering from strokes and seizures and reading is the best way to build up my brain. I set a goal that I did not think I could reach but I almost doubled it. This year i plan to use get more involved in this group if my 4 year old grand daughter who lives with me now will allow me too. I also use the group to remind myself to review every book that I read. Reviews are important to authors so I realize with my short term memory issues i need all the help i can get to remember things and goodreads helps me remember books to read, TO READ and REVIEW and now it will help me connect online as well. I love reading almost all kinds of books. I am not to much into scifi but I am open to trying just about any author at least once. Looking forward to a book filled 2016. My goal in 2016 is to read 550 books.

message 296: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Rojek | 3 comments Hi! I'm Kim and I'm from NJ (right outside Philadelphia). I love to read anything and everything (and it has to be a physical book...I can't get into eBooks despite multiple attempts). I've always been a bookworm (my undergrad degree is English lit), but I haven't read as much outside of Dr. Seuss since becoming a mom to 2 little boys (ages 2 and 4).

I'm hoping to read 30 books in 2016 and thought a group like this would be great for suggestions and to keep me committed :).

message 297: by Chalmation (new)

Chalmation | 3730 comments Hello everyone. I’m Cindy and I live in the New Orleans area. I joined this group mainly for challenges. My yearly challenge will be to read 50 books. I also may do the January Extreme challenge.

I only read ebooks (on my Kindle), so if its not in that format, I don’t read it. I have over 2000 books (most were free) in my Kindle account, plus I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and have 3 public library accounts. I’m not going to live long enough to read all my books!

I like a variety of genres EXCEPT romance, religion, and politics. Basically I read the description of the book, and if it sounds good, and its free, I’ll get it. If its not free, I add it to my Amazon wish list and wait until it drops to $0, which happens quite often. Or I add the books to my Kindle Unlimited or my public library wish list if its eligible.

I’m not very chatty, so I probably won’t post much, except on my challenge thread once I set it up, but I do enjoy reading everyone else’s posts.

message 298: by Chickadee (new)

Chickadee | 29 comments Hi all! I'm Colleen. This will be my 3rd year participating Good Reads Challenge. Each year I have set and reached my goal of 25 books (although I usually read a few books over 25) and will keep my goal the same.
This year I'm also taking part in Book Riot's Read Harder challenge. I have 11 books picked out. Looking forward to exchanging ideas and thoughts on books!

Kim Dean | 4 comments Greetings!
I am new to GoodReads as I just discovered it last week. I am thrilled to find a group of readers as passionate as I am. I am excited to challenge myself and be more intentional about my reading in 2016. I am from the Seattle area. I read a variety of genres, I like contemporary and historical fiction as well as memoirs and classical literature; spiritual works and personal development.
I read to know other times, places, thought processes, ideas, and lifestyles.
My goals this year include reading 104 books- one fiction and one non-fiction per week on average. I would like to include committing to read the group read of the month. My plan is to review each book as I read it from my TBR list. I am also trying to read the books I already own as I have quite a collection. This challenge will help me clear the clutter to make room for more new reading adventures.
I also have a goal to start a blog in January to track some other life events and intend to include my reads as I go along.
Excited to get started! Happy Reading!
