I have recently gotten into reading again and my goal this year was 95 books and I am currently at 106.
Next year I am planning to do 100 because I imagine next year is going to be busy.
I want to expand my reading horizons so I can find which genres I enjoy reading the most.
As of now I enjoy historical fiction, YA contemporary and fantasy/dystopia, literary fiction and adult fiction. I have been straying towards YA contemporary and losing interest in dystopia. Maybe because most dystopias are trite and bore me.
Because I have only recently got into reading, I am behind on a lot of series and popular books [cough, Harry Potter, cough also Percy Jackson and the Lunar Chronicles and Throne of Glass etc, etc] so my goal is to read all the popular books.
I really enjoy Mathew Quick, Patrick Ness, John Green and Holly Bourne and they are my current favourite authors. I am also getting into A.S King, Morgan Matson, David Levithan and E. Lockhart and I plan on reading more of their books in the future.
2016 will hopefully be a good year of reading.

Hi Mark, I live outside of Denver and like you attempted the 2015 challenge and failed... Good luck to you this year!

Jayne - my phone will not give me the option to link books, but my computer does. Right above the comment box, there is a link that says 'add book/author,' and that will do it. But as I said, if I'm on my phone app, the add link doesn't show up.

I love mysteries, thrillers, historical fiction and biographies
Looking forward to hearing about your favorite books too!
Ann

I love reading and through this site widened my reading taste, so here is to another life enhancing year

Thanks Alex - I was using the computer and tried the 'add book/author' link but just got the book title and a number, no link! Weird... perhaps it didn't like that book !!

I discovered your group through a friend on GoodReads. I think it will be fun to have a group for the reading challenge next year. I love science fiction, fantasy and historical fiction. I have no clue what my goal will be next year, I am thinking 200.

I read from most genres and am trying to make my reading more diverse. If anyone has any recommendations for good Middle Eastern/North African literature, please let me know :)
I found this group as it came up on my recommended groups list.
My reading goal for 2016 is 150

I am Polina. Though I currently reside in Algeria, I am originally from Tanzania. I am biracial: My mom is from St. Petersburg, Russia, where I was born; my dad is from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, where I grew up. Yes, I have the best of both worlds. My first language is Russian; however, I am also fluent in Swahili. English is my third language. I have been reading English books for more than two years now. At first, my goal was to expand my English vocabulary. Fortunately, I have fallen in love with reading English books. I am also teaching myself French and Arabic, but that is beside the point. Anyway, I am excited to be a member of this group; I hope to achieve my 2016 reading goal: at least 38 books.

I recently read Season of Migration to the North by Tayeb Salih and it was a really good read. I am also trying to read more diverse books (mainly South-Asian - Indian and Pakistani writers especially), but this one is from Sudan. It was very poetic, moving and mysterious, and the writing is gorgeous. It's definitely one of my favourite books this year.

Thank you for the recommendation!
Have added it to my wishlist :D

I like many different types of books, including: memoirs, mystery, young adult, horror, historical fiction, classics, and any book that I find to be a page-turner. I found this group when I was searching for possible reading challenges for 2016.

I've been using Goodreads for a loong time but I've decided that this year I'll be actually participating in the community, instead of lurking all the time.
I'm aiming to read at least 100 books, but with it being my last semester of high school and starting college, we'll see how it goes :D

How interesting! I am learning Arabic as well.

I'm Natasha. I noticed that two of my past high school classmates are in this group, and I thought it could be a good way to push me to read more.
Lately, I've been reading a lot of non-fiction, primarily about business development and startups. I've also been dabbling in alternative and Eastern spirituality.
I'm hoping to increase my fiction reads in 2016. I don't have a go to genre or author, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

And remember not to take challenges too seriously. If you can't complete them, it's not the end of the world! :)

I like to read all kinds of books and constantly trying new genres. Lately I read a lot of fantasy and (from time to time) some romantic books.
Since new year is approaching, I´d like to give myself a challenge I can finish for once. So, finally read all those books I have at my home :). Plus few more. So... hundred books?
Currently, I am reading Winter by Marissa Meyer and Percy Jackson´s Greek Gods by Rick Riordan. I would love to have someone to discuss my reading progress and all that, so if you are that person, don´t hesitate to send me a friend request!

Ahoj, Raduuuza! Welcome! I traveled to Prague this past May and loved it! I'm new to this group too, and I hope you will meet your reading challenge in 2016! Good Luck!

Thanks Sharon! I am happy you liked Prague - there is a reason people call it The Mother of Cities :).

I like reading reviews and reading-progress from people and I'll try to write some reviews myself this coming year. Feel free to send me a friend request (:

I'm Abhishek. I live in India. I like reading both fiction and non-fiction, though I have read much more of the former.
In fiction, I prefer crime, mystery and thriller. My favorite is Sherlock Holmes and I also like Agatha Christie. When it comes to non fiction, I usually read books on modern history.
I plan to read at least 20 books in 2016. I hope this group helps me in achieving the same. I also expect to find some like minded readers who can give good recommendations when I am unable to decide what to read next.
Regards and a very happy new year 2016!
Abhishek

This is a very nice way to share your reading interest and I'm sure you will get lots of ideas and recommendations! Feel free to join anything that looks interesting and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions :)

Hello, everyone! My name is Eric and I live in Western Arkansas. I have been a member of Goodreads groups in the past, but I'm looking to reacquaint myself after one big black hole of a 2015. My wife died right before Christmas in 2014 and this past year was a whirlwind, so reading fell by the wayside.
I typically enjoy mystery, suspense, thrillers and police procedurals in the fiction world, and history, science and biographies in non-fiction. I also enjoy anything by Carl Hiaasen. Some of my favorite writers include Michael Connelly, John Grisham, Preston & Child, Robert B. Parker (and the writers continuing his series, Ace Atkins, Michael Brandman and Reed Farrel Coleman), Michael Shermer, Malcolm Gladwell and Sam Harris.
I haven't set my reading goal yet for 2016, but it will be modest; probably in the 12-15 range. I'm busy - we all are - but I see no reason why I can't read at least one book a month. I have a stack of them on my shelves and more in my kindle just waiting for me, and I really miss getting lost in good reads. Hopefully with the encouragement of this group, I can unplug more and rediscover one of my passions ... I also need to pick up my guitar and golf clubs more, but that's another story :)
Thanks and good luck to all.

Thank you Winter! :)

I enjoy mostly nonfiction. History, sociology, philosophy, gender studies, linguistics. However I do like some fiction, mostly fantasy. Goal is to read 50 books in 2016, hopefully not including university readings haha.
Good luck!

Really excited about being in the group :)

Greetings to a fellow Belgian!! I also like romances and cozy mysteries, looks like we not only share a country, but also a similar taste in books!

I'd like to read at least 1 book a week this year. I'm pretty open on genres and try to include a few classics and non fiction reads in my list.
I am also starting to work my way through the 1001 books before you die list.
