message 1101: by Lee (new)

Lee Hey everyone! My name is Lee, I'm 28 and I live outside of Chicago, Illinois.

I'm mostly into fantasy of any kind (though epic and high fantasy seem to rule my bookshelves) but a few y.a. have been known to sneak their way in.

I like to see not only if myself and other people have a lot of books in common but also what groups they're in, because there are so many I feel like a lot of them get missed when I do a general search for them.

My reading goal for this year is 25 books and I'm already up to 17! That's all thanks to a handful of fast teen books.

message 1103: by Czasper (new)

Czasper | 1 comments : Hey guys! I'm Czarelle. I'm from the Philippines.

My goal is to read 50 books and I read 31 already.

Can anyone tell me the book used on the movie 'The Space between us'? It'll be released this August and I just want to read it first before i watch it.

message 1104: by Connor (last edited Jul 13, 2016 05:03PM) (new)

Connor | 2 comments Hi guys! I'm Connor, I'm 17 and I live in England.

I'm trying to read 25 books this year. I've read 13 so far but readimg the rest could be hard since I'll be at university from September onwards.

I'll read most kinds of fiction, including fantasy and Sci-Fi, but I'm not really into teen drama or romance novels. I also very much enjoy graphic novels made for an older, more mature audience. That would be things like Watchmen and The Sandman, and less so popular superhero comics like Batman and the like (which fall into the tendency of just having poor writing).

I'm always up for recommendations from others, so if anyone has suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

message 1105: by Isavella (new)

Isavella | 43 comments Hello!
I am Isavella ( but I would prefer it, if you called me Isabelle ). I am from Greece.
I don't have a favourite genre. I just like books that have morals.
I was searching for a group that is focused on reading challenges and that's how I found this one!
My reading goal this year is to read 100 books - but I really am behind :p I hope I'll make it, though - and to complete as many challenges as I am capable of!

Last but not least,
I have already found that this group is really interesting. I haven't seen the moderators to be so active in any group! and I daresay that I like it a lot!!!

message 1106: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina S. | 31 comments Hello everyone!!

I'm Sabrina, I'm from Paris (France). My favorite genres are: urban fantasy, high fantasy, historical fiction, young adult, (paranormal) romance.

I've found the group here, on Goodreads, while I was searching for some reading challenges to do, for motivation.

I fell in love with books just two years ago. On my first year I've reached over 18 000 pages, so, I wish I could get 18 500 pages read by the end of the year.

I'm so excited to start, this is my first group joined, I'm sure I it will be fun!!

;D

Stephanie (prater0115) | 20 comments Hi everyone!

We are sharing an account because we use one Amazon Prime account for both of our Kindles and wanted to use Goodreads for recomendations and what we are reading.

We are from the US. We like just about all books. We'll give anything a try. This is the first group we have decided to actively participate in and we're excited. We've decided to challenge ourselves to at least 10 hopefully 20 or more books by the end of the year.

message 1108: by Sara'la (new)

Sara'la (sarala123) Hey everyone! My name is Sara'la or Sara. I found this group in hopes of finding some fresh reading material!! and to expand my horizons. I'm from Brooklyn, NY. Wahoo!! I like books that are kinda real-life fiction the ones that not necessarily are high in suspense or romance but take time to develop characters - a buldingsroman? - and have amazing writing like author Edith Wharton. So putting it that way I like ANY genere that has the aforementioned factor;) Books like Dennis Lehanne, a bit of Jodi Piccoult. Lisa See is also quite good - I have a secret fascination with Ancient Asian culture - Snowflower and the Secret Fan is really good. also nonfiction novels are doable as well - psychology, history mostly;) (is it weird that im past the childhood stage and way past adolescence and I still enjoy childrens books??? R J Palacios Wonder gets me every time.) My latest favorite author is Markus Zusak!! it's been four years since I've read his books. His two books The Book Thief and I am the Messenger are spectacular! like no joke. I'm up to my 4th? read of the Book Thief and it's crazy how reading it again feels like the first time!! So to wrap up this incoherent salutation: if anyone has any suggestions of books they've read that have left them with that phenomenal feeling of 'wow' - would love to hear about it!!

Sara Acord (vegtabully) | 5 comments I'm Sara. I'm 30 years old and a teacher in Tampa.
I like dystopian, historical fiction, memoirs, and nonfiction.
Peter Pan is my favorite book, and I love collecting retellings.
My goal is 40 books this year, and I'm right on track!

Barbi Faye (The Book Fae) (barbifayethebookfae) | 11 comments Hi I'm Barbi from Vancouver BC and I'm a bit bonkers for books...!
I love YA and paranormal romance, dystopia, and I love to read and review. I get a lot of ass time as a perk of having severe fibromyalgia, cfs, me, ra, and some others. Besides reading I write, and I love cats, I make and sell items.
I just started my first blog too!!http://barbifayethebookfae.simplesite...
I would love to have you as a friend if you would like. Caio, Bellas! Barbi

message 1113: by Nerope (new)

Nerope Hi, I´m Nerope (it´s a nickname), I am from Spain and I like reading historical fiction and books which tell the story of a life (not a biography but a story, whether it is made up or real).
I set up my reading challenge in 15 books for this year, since I am studying engineering and don´t have much spare time, but at the moment I have read the incredible amount of 21 ! (lot of free time in summer ;)
I joined this group because I is harder to find new reads and I hope I find some recommendations among you.
That´s all, thanks!

message 1114: by Mari (new)

Mari | 1 comments Greetings fellow goodreaders!

My name is Mari, and I'm a 26 year old booklover living in Oslo, Norway. I've always loved reading, but demanding studies the past years have taken up most of my reading time. As I've just started my grown-up-life with 9-5 working hours, I have a strong desire to rekindle my romance with books. I love different kinds of fiction, especially narrates of human relations and everyday life, but also crime thrillers and the occasional autobiography.

I joined goodreads to get new suggestions for books, spark my imagination and motivation for reading, and talk to other booklovers like myself. I'm very interested in exploring new genres and I hope to discover masterpieces I wouldn't have stumbled upon by myself.

Happy reading!

message 1115: by D.H. (last edited Jul 22, 2016 06:20AM) (new)

D.H. Jonathan | 4 comments My name is Dan, and I live in Fort Worth, Texas. I read a lot of different things, from current literary fiction to classics to horror and a little bit of sci-fi.

I'm also a writer, and I just added my debut book here on Goodreads. The strange thing is that Goodreads changed my profile to my pen name when I became a "Goodreads Author". So I show up here as D.H. instead of Dan.

In 2001, I was a contestant on the ABC gameshow Who Wants to Be a Millionaire back when Regis was host and the ratings were through the roof. I won $32,000 on the show.

Oh, and I found this group on the list of groups with recent activity. Since I participated in Goodreads Reading Challenges in both 2015 and 2016, I decided to join...

message 1116: by Meghan (new)

Meghan | 1 comments Hello! I'm Meghan, and I'm from the US.

I like to try books regardless of genre, but I tend to read biographies, short stories, and fiction (from YA to classics, and anything in between)!

I'm new to Goodreads, but my 2016 goal has been to read 40 books. Looking forward to meeting other readers and hopefully reaching my goal for this year. Feel free to recommend any book you've read this year that you enjoyed :-)

message 1117: by Poojan (new)

Poojan Patel | 1 comments Hi!

Barbi Faye (The Book Fae) (barbifayethebookfae) | 11 comments Hi all! I am Barbi, The Book Fae, and I am incredibly happy.... I have done my 2016 Reading Challenge Like A BAWSE, and I have almost DOUBLED my 100 Book Challenge! I am two books away from TWO hundred, and I am feeling like celebrating! I will hit my mark today or tomorrow; I am just so proud of me!
WOOT!

message 1120: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (gemmamountain) Hi Guys

My name is Gemma, I'm from the UK and I'm the wrong side of 30! lol

Although I'm not a newbie to Goodreads I am a newbie on the forums and chat boards and honestly have no idea what I am doing!

I love to read pretty much anything and would love to find some like minded people to chat and share with.

message 1121: by Chandra (new)

Chandra Claypool (WhereTheReaderGrows) (wherethereadergrows) Hey everyone! Coming in late to this group. I'm Chandra an I live in NYC (well, Astoria, Queens, that is). I typically read psych/crime thrillers and horror novels. My goal this year was to read 80 books and I"m already past 70 so I think I'll far exceed it at this point! Found this group in my suggestion feed. Look forward to diggin in!

message 1122: by battie (new)

battie (lavenderquartz) | 3 comments Hi there! I'm Jordyn and I'm from Ohio. I'll read almost anything, but am especially interested if horror, Greek mythology, or LGBTQIA. I found the group by doing a very quick book club search. My reading goal for this year is 10 books. I decided to start small because due to struggling with mental illness the past few years I stopped reading, and am wanting to get back into it again. So far, so good!

message 1123: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Welcome to the group all! We are so glad to have you!

message 1124: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahgllghr) Hi all! I'm Sarah from Ireland. I read fairly widely - literary fiction, social justice-y stuff, productivity stuff on audio, the odd thriller/crime novel and some YA (typically in the LGBTQIA vein). I'm so excited for the new Megan Abbot that it is literally my only plan for this three-day weekend. (I'll probably be finished by lunchtime Saturday though ;-)

I'm joining up because I've decided to reset my reading goal for the year. In January I set myself a target of 75 books but as I've hit 60 today I'm going to up it to 100. I was three short of that figure last year so ... let's go!!

message 1125: by Sheeni (new)

Reading goal.. is to try out mystery/thrilling books and I'll be really glad for any recommendations from you :).. happy reading guys :)

message 1127: by ~~~Sue~~~ (new)

~~~Sue~~~ O. Hello everyone!
I am new to the group but not to goodreads. I have recently began to use good reads more and thought now was a good time to get into some groups.
My name is Sue and I am 41 (and loving it) and happily married. I have two grown children (21 &18) and I have three younger ones still home (10,7,&5). I have not always been a reader and I tend to do more books on CD than I do actually reading but I get the same out of it imo. I have started reading from genres I never thought I would like before and enjoying it. I am not one for romance but have a couple I read for book club that I enjoyed. I do tend to enjoy YA books as a guilty pleasure and easy read. I have recently found books that get a bit of sex in the story and have found these books fun lol. I like to try a variety. Looking forward to meeting new people along the way and reading some good books!
message 1128: by Eliza (new)
Eliza (thatssomecatch) Hi guys!
I'm Eliza, and I've joined to ensure I stay on track to meet my reading goal of 30 books by the end of the year. Doesn't help that I have the concentration levels of a caffeinated gazelle, need likeminded people to keep me on track!
I read all kinds of books, nothing is off the menu. My favourite novel is House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski, and my favourite non-fiction book is The Female Eunuch by Germaine Greer.
Hoping to exceed my target of 30 if possible! Wish me luck...
message 1129: by Kirsten (new)
Kirsten (kirstenkikue) | 12 comments Hello! My name is Kirsten, and while I have been keeping track of my yearly challenges, I haven't done so on Goodreads until now.
I have lived all over the country, but I currently reside in the San Francisco Bay Area where I work as a freelance writer.
My favorite book genres include YA, Romance, History, Political Science, & 20th Century Fiction.
My goals include to read 250 new books in 2016, finish both the Summer and year long PopSugar Reading Challenges, and perhaps participating in the Listopia challenge.
message 1134: by Sowmya (new)
Sowmya Kambam | 12 comments Hi everyone! This is Sowmya and I am from India. Currently I am into reading fantasy books. Not sure how I found this group but I liked the challenge.
I am going to start with 1981 based on my birthday. Since I am starting the challenge in mid Aug, I have included the books I already read this year. Sad part is that I read too many books from same year. Looks like I need to pick smaller books to complete this challenge by Dec, 2016
message 1135: by Kylia (new)
Kylia Gillian (alaskanbookgirl55) | 1 comments Hello everyone, I'm Kylia. I live in Anchorage, Alaska. My current book goal for this is 10 books. I know it seems small but I'm really trying to get back into the swing of reading. I've been having a horrible time scheduling in reading into my busy life.
message 1136: by Lunatic (new)
Lunatic Hi All, I'm Kevin. I've been trying to get back into reading for a while, I think last year I read maybe 1 book but I decided to put a bit more effort in this year and I managed to meet my first goal (of a paltry 5 books :P ) so now I am targeting 15.
I like sci-fi and dystopian fiction, and military/crime/history non-fiction
Feel free to add me and/or share recommendations!
message 1141: by Bridget's Quiet Corner (last edited Aug 23, 2016 09:02PM) (new)
Bridget's Quiet Corner  (chaptersandscreens) Hi everyone. I'm a mom of 2 young men & pet mom to 2 Chinese hamsters...one of which is a little over 2 years old, his name is Harold..the other, I'm not so sure...he was abandoned & brought to us close to a year or so ago, he still doesn't trust anyone, so, we just leave him be..lol....and his name is Spice..we're from NC, I'm 41 (42 in September). I love fantasy/paranormal romance...trying to get into contemporary romance, I like SOME historical fiction (usually around slavery I'm noticing). Trying to broaden my horizons a bit. I also like mystery/thriller (a little cozy too). I love music SVU, Criminal Minds, WWE (what I call my fighting soaps lol), the ID channel, family Vloggers & much more. :-)
message 1142: by Tania (new)
Tania Hi, I'm Tania from Bedford England. Me and my dog, George (a golden retriver) are temporally living back home with mum after she had a fall.
I will try to read anything at lest once though I think my favorites are paranormal, contemporary and historical romance. Am happy to read M/M and erotica. I have just recently tried reading war books based on real life and have developed a liking for them, so am opening new doors for myself.
Finally bought a kindle a couple of months ago (after 2 years of yes/no) and have ended up reading a lot of what I call trash books which I admit is unfair on those books as I have enjoyed a lot of them but am now getting to grips with it.
Herd about you through another member. My goal this year is to read 125 books.
message 1143: by Jonathan (last edited Aug 23, 2016 11:05AM) (new)
Jonathan | 3 comments Hi, I'm Jon from Canterbury. I read what I feel to be a large range of books: classics, historical fiction, YA, fantasy, spiritual, children's books, leadership, personal development, teacher training and general award-winning fiction. Like most people, the books I read may reveal something of my age and character (e.g. father and teacher). The number of books I've challenged myself with also probably reflects the possibility of how much I can achieve too, with the demands of life. I just hope to add four more to each challenge, each year.
Ania | 14 comments Hi guys, my name is Ania, I am 26, I am from Romania and currently living in Germany. I am a "fresh" member of goodreads and already a very big fan of it and while browsing through all the possibilities this very nice and welcoming community gives to one, I found your group. My reading challenge for this year consists of 30 books and I hope to not only find inspiration here but also someone to pick me up when my reading motivation is getting a little bit low :) Happy reading to everyone!
message 1146: by Stephanie (new)
Stephanie (swoger) | 2 comments Hello all!
I'm new to goodreads, but as an English Literature major, I'm certainly not new to reading. Although I graduated roughly 5 years ago, I'm just now starting to read regularly again. I guess I was burned out from having to read, it took me a while to want to read again. I wouldn't say I have an absolute favorite genre, I read a lot of different ones and most of the time enjoy them in some way even if I don't end up loving the book itself.
I think my favorite book of all time is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I, of course, had to read this in at least 2 of my college classes and wasn't thrilled when I initially saw it on the reading list of that first class. But oh how I loved it and was all to willing to read it the second time!
I have a 12 year old son to whom I try hard to instill the importance of reading-especially the classics. I think he's finally getting there lol!
This month I gave myself the challenge of reading at least 20 books this year. I've read 9 so far, so hopefully this is a goal I can meet!
Thanks for taking the time to read my introduction!
Stephanie
Welcome to to the group, Stephanie!
I'm the same as you - I read all different sorts of books and can never seem to find a favourite genre.
I've never read Frankenstein...
