Hi Gemma! Always great to see a fellow Scot.

My recommendations, for anyone, will always be Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. If you want YA fiction I implore you to read The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare.

message 953: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) HI, I'm Lisa

I've been a member of this group for a few weeks now, but this is the first chance I've had to get on here to look around. I'm 49, I live in SC and I'm raising 2 of my grandchildren. They are 6 and 11, so they really keep me busy.

I'm mostly into mystery/thrillers, but I have been known to read Christian fiction, to YA. I'm really all over the place. LOL I don't really care for historical romance, but if I have nothing else to read, I will read those.

My personal goal for this year is 150, and I'm on # 55 now.

Hopefully, my grandkids will let me check in more often. Thanks for having me.

Chrystall Jenkins | 1 comments Hi everyone,
I'm Chrystall. I'm from Pennsylvania. I like to read almost anything but my favorite authors are Anne Rice, Christopher Moore and Toni Morrison. I have used Goodreads for a while to track the books I read and want to read but wanted to get more involved with challenges and discussing books and found the group by looking around for a few minutes. My reading goal for this year is 30 books and I'm on track so far. I work full time and am a full time college student. I read real books when I can but right now audiobooks work best since I drive at least 2 hours each day.

message 955: by Angie (new)

Angie Flegel (angiekuh) Hi! I'm Angie, I live in very rural Southwest Georgia (Americus, to be exact) and I love most books except romance novels. I started a book club about a year ago, and funnily enough most of our books have been biographies or memoirs (we all wrote down titles we wanted to read and threw them into a jar, so it was very random. all our books are on my Book Club Shelf). I think I found this group simply by perusing the Community Groups page :) I am trying to take my time away from time spent in front of a TV, so my goal is to simply to take more time to read, thus reading more. Officially on GR my goal is 30, but I'm guessing I'll walk away with 24 (12 book club reads and hopefully 12 more).

message 956: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahgsteele) Hello all!

I'm Hannah. I currently live in Buffalo, but I am from Cleveland. I love all types of books and I am willing to give anything a try at least once. :) This year my goal is to read 30 books. So far I've read 8 including: all 7 Harry Potter books (for the first time), a biography of Caesar, and The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell. Currently reading We Are Not Ourselves.

I'm looking forward to participating in this group!

message 957: by Roger (new)

Roger Cretes (rcretes) Hey!
My name is Roger, I'm from Wakefield, Quebec, Canada. I'm not really difficult as for genre, but I mostly like murders and mystery, thrillers... It may be a little weird, but I like it when somebody dies in it. I'm a big Horror geek (books as much as in movies also).

I found your group when I was looking at a member's GR page to find new books to add, and saw it.

My reading goal is to read at least 30 books this year and I would like to expand my knowledge in books, I want to try to read classics for starters also, but I don't wanna go to far from what I love.

message 958: by Gary (new)

Gary Sundell | 199 comments Welcome Roger. I'm sure many of us can help with suggestions. Who are your favorite mystery authors? Have you read Poe and Lovecraft in the horror genre?

Thanks, that's the thing I don't have any favorite authors. And no I didn't read those.

Kelly (agirladogabook) | 9 comments Hi! My name is Kelly and I'm from New York. I like to read primarily mysteries and crime novels but am a voracious reader and will rarely turn down a book. Because life gets in the way I try to read at least 2 books per month but I recently suffered an injury that has me on be dress for 8 weeks so I am going through a book every couple of days. I am looking forward to meeting other readers and getting more recommendations.

message 966: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) Nereta, I love it that your reading goal is not just numbers, but something much more important. That's very wise.

message 967: by Tim (new)

Tim Smith Hi, I am Tim. I live in Rockford, Illinois, USA. I read most genres, both fiction and non-fiction, but due to a tight budget I mainly read books that are in the Public Domain or from the library.

I joined this group a while back after coming across it while browsing. This is my first post in the group since of where I get my materials and what I fell like reading when I start reading a book.

I had set a goal of 50 books earlier this year, but fell behind in my reading. I just finished reading Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis which is my fourth book so I have a long way to go to get to 50.

Yesterday I came across and joined the Public Domain Readers group where instead of reading books from a specific list, we pick books from a specific genre or category for the month. That makes it easier to find something I like and should help me reach my goal.

I look forward to see what everybody is reading and get into discussions if I've read the book. I've been an avid reader ever since I was young and am now in my 50's, so there is a chance that I've read something that someone else in the group is reading.

message 968: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessthebookworm) | 20 comments Hello, my name is Jessica. I am 23 years old and I am from Alabama, US. I will read anything that interests me, but I mostly read Fantasy, Paranormal, and Scifi. Its been a few years since Ive been really active in reading but I used to be a big reader and I am hoping to get back into it again. My goal is the read 25 books this year, but I am a bit behind. I joined this group because it seemed like a good way to get me back into reading.

Lady Clementina ffinch-ffarowmore | 476 comments Hello everyone,

I'm Mallika from Gurgaon, India. I enjoy reading pretty much everything but especially classics, historical fiction and non-fiction, some fantasy, children's literature, mysteries and also popular math and science books.

I found this group as I noticed I friend from another group here is a member.

My goal this year is to read at least eight books a month (I haven't been keeping up very well because of work) but more broadly to cut my TBR pile down by at least half. Counting e-books and actual books, I'm a little embarrassed to say I had over 200 on my pile at the beginning of the year,

Steven (stevennerdtrash) Hey all! Just joined this group! I'm Steven and I'm living in St. John's Newfoundland. Not originally where I'm from, but it's a beautiful place to be! I like to read fantasy novels, but I'm really open to reading anything. I like to read as much as I can, but try to finish at least one book a month. Look forward to talking to you all on these discussion boards!

Brittany (blynnpurcell) Hello! I am just kind of looking for someone to discuss books with and have a monthly reading challenge. I read more then one book a month generally, but this will give me ideas on books to read and a little personal challenge as well!

message 978: by Emily (new)

Emily Vanmiddendorp Hi Everyone!!
I joined a couple days ago....
some of my favorite genres are YA, Fiction, Fantasy, and Dystopian.
My Personal Reading Challenge for 2016 is 50 books!
and I'm always looking for Recommendations.

message 979: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimkienzle) Hello! My name is Kim and I typically use Goodreads to keep track of what I've read. Looking for a more interactive group than the other one I'm in. I love reading all sorts of things, riding horses, gardening, knitting and being outdoors. Married with 2 adult children, retired from teaching after 33 years. I'm in the middle of A Prayer for Owen Meany right now and loving it! Trying to stay on track to meet my reading challenge this year...

message 980: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Hello, introducing myself here... I've been on Goodreads for a while but am craving more book talk than I get in real life, so thought I'd give this group a try. I see it's pretty busy here.

I was one of those nose-in-a-book kids, but put off personal reading for several years while homeschooling my kids. Now that they are older, not only do they not need me so much, but we can enjoy and discuss the same books. So I decided to challenge myself to read 50 books this year, with the hope of doing more.

My reading is kind of all over the place; this year I'm reading some geology-related books along with one of my kids, a fair bit of high-school-appropriate lit either for the first time or as a re-read, and some mysteries for fun.

Looking forward to getting to know people here!

TapMyShoulder | 1 comments Hello all, I'm Agathe and I'm originally from France, but I'm currently studying in the UK. My reading goal for this year is to read at least a book a month (different from the books required for uni), plus I'm aiming to read a longer classic during the summer holiday.
I am a very classics-oriented reader, but I enjoy any type of fiction, especially fantasy and romance. I would love some book recommandations. Any genre is welcome, since I am joining this group partly to broaden my horizons!
I look forward to this challenge!

When I was in college my goals were the same. I only had the brain power to read one non school book a month, and I always made it a classic.

message 991: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 152 comments Aloha! My name is Lauri and I'm from Hawaii. Reading is my most favorite thing in the entire world! I love real books made from ink and actual paper. I enjoy visiting my public library weekly and checking out shopping bags full of books!
My favorite genre is historical fiction. I'm also a sucker for pre-history, Asian, ancient Egyptian, colonial Amerian & Early European stories. Guilty pleasure: vampires & werewolves!
I will read just about anything -- my rule is to give it 100 pages. If I am not loving it by that point, I just move on. This rarely happens, though.
I've been on GR for years, but this is the first year I've joined any groups or challenges. I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but I sure am having fun!

I'm Amber. I'm 25 and a next wife/mother of 2. Reading abs binge watching shows is a bit theraputic for me. I love YA fantasy though I'm trying to read more contemporary. I also dabble in other genres, it sort of just depends on my mood. I've thought about making a booktube but I don't think my camera is good enough so I might make a blog instead or just try and get a bit more use out of twitter and instagram.
