Hello. Names Ashly and I live in New York. I mostly read Young Adult books but I like to read adult books too. I found this group by searching the goodreads groups. My goal for 2016 will be to read 35 books. I'm also going to do the PopSugar 2016 Reading Challenge.
Hello. I am Icystorm, or Icy for short. I live in North Dakota and am starting to wonder why there is not snow on the ground yet. Normally there is snow by the end of October. The lack of cold weather makes it hard to wrap up in a warm blanket and read a good book.I like to read anything that involves animals. One of my favorite non-animal series is The Dark Tower by Stephen King. I am a major tower junkie and can't wait for the movie. Other than that I read anything that looks interesting.
My goal for 2016 will probably be 35 books (pretty low), but I would like to spend time next year doing some writing also, and not just role play writing. That all depends on my characters, though, so I hope they are willing to work with me soon. ^^
Feel free to talk to me about anything. I am excited to get to know some of you and to complete goals with everyone.

I'm sharing that with my daughter (who's 8) and a super reader.
@icystormWe have had temps in the 40s here in Minnesota. Usually we are -10 or so about this time of year.
I'm loving it though bc I hate the cold.
hi Ashley hi Icy nice to have both of you here! the goal here is to enjoy what you are doing so 35 is a great number. reach out if you have any questions or just want to read something together.
I'm julie and I currently live in New Hampshire.I found this group this evening just scrolling through the groups section looking for a group that had lots of people & activity & fun challenges.
I like reading fiction, historical fiction, classics & Newbury winners, as i have 3 YA readers at home & I like to read stuff we can all talk about.
I joined a Bookclub in my town this September & i've become infected with the reading bug; I'm itching to read what would be for me an absurd amount of books in 2016... 20-50 books.
I really like the idea of the fiction to reality challenge; I'd like to read more non-fiction.
Looking forward to 2016!
Hi. My name is Tara. I live in Kansas City Missouri and I will read ANYTHING!!! I just love books. I am currently finishing my last 4 books in the Pop Sugar 2015 Reading Challenge. I have logged all my books on instagram @ptaradactyl88 and #2015readingchallenge. I am looking for something different to challenge me in 2016. I have also been considering starting a monthly readers group. My friends are tired of hearing me talk about it and it is now time to take action! I just joined goodreads so please friend me so it will stop saying "You have no friends"

I think I spoke too soon. Little white flakes are now falling from the sky.
welcome to the group and good reads Tara! we will have to compare books and do some reading together! if you need anything don't hesitate to ask
Now that I am a Moderator, I feel it is a good time to re-introduce myself.Hello and Asalamu Alakum (peace be with you in Arabic), my name is Kadijah Michelle. If the picture of me in a headscarf didn't give it away, I am a Muslim. That is only important to this group in the sense that I like to introduce some Muslim writers to the group and around Christmas time, I will have a non-Christmas theme challenge to offer. After that, I am your average American bibliophile with an addiction to collecting the books I read. I currently work in an elementary school doing fundraising, and I'm taking classes to hopefully one day become a librarian...turning my book obsession into a paid career:) I also have four kids, a loving husband and two beautiful cats.
So that's me in a nut shell. If you would like to know about my reading habits, check out the recommendations thread I started: Recommendations Thread
Hello everyone. My name is Jonathan. I live in Concord, which is a city in the East Bay of Northern California. I’ve loved to read ever since I was child. My favorite authors growing were Stephen King and Dean Koontz. So even as a child I loved the horror/thriller genre. Though I still very much enjoy those two authors, my reading horizons have vastly expanded. I still love the horror and thriller genres, but now I also love to read history, and even metaphysical books. I love to read from new and unknown authors; a little break from the familiar. I work full time so I don’t get to read quite as much as I want to; however, my love for reading and books in general has never vanished, and I will be setting my goals pretty high this coming year.
Hello all! My name is Deb - I am from Washington state. I have been doing personal reading challenges for the last couple of years, but decided I would like to try something a little more focused. This last year has been reading any books that are free - I have an e-reader. :-) The problem with that is the books tend to be the more of the same types of books, which can get old. I am looking forward to reading some new genres and hearing others' thoughts about the books we all are reading.
Welcome everyone!Washington state is where I'm from too, Deb. It's nice to see another person from my area.
Shalin, I'm not very familiar with crime/thriller books, but I'm sure there are other members who can help get you started there.
Hi! I'm Yvette from Australia. This year I did the Pop Sugar reading challenge which I really enjoyed, and I read way more than I usually read in a year! I was looking for a different challenge this year and someone directed me to this group. I'm going with Around the World in Books and think I can complete it using books from my shelves.
I read a huge variety of books and genres. Minimal chick lit, graphic novels and non-fiction but I enjoy pretty much every other genre.
Hello all! My name is Grace. I am from San Francisco. The past 3 years (since 2013 I think?) I've managed to read 100 books. I was scrolling through goodreads and I saw this group and thought that maybe I didn't have to embark on this truly ridiculous undertaking by myself in 2016.
I have loved reading since I was a child and dependent on adults to give me my fix. Once I finally got to the point where I could read by myself, a monster was created.
I mostly read romance and literary fiction, but I dabble in other genres a lot too. I'm trying to do more of that, broaden my horizons and all that.

This group is a great way to dabble in other genres. I was like you for a long time, only reading in a narrow comfort zone that I had created, but since joining this group, I find myself reading all kinds of genres.

Hi, I'm Kathryn and I'm from Albany New York. I've just started delving into Goodreads discussion groups. I love historical fiction, memoir, some popular fiction and I love getting recommendations. My goal is 50.
Hello. I am Caroline, I live in Midwest US...I would like to read 12 books this year...one a month...just to see if I can complete a year...if I get more in I will consider myself fortunate. I enjoy many genres..have no set favorites in any...I prefer being open minded in choosing them...my profile hasn't been updated...I will only talk about which books I've completed...after they are...because I do my best to avoid spoilers...I also promise to give alerts...when I discuss each one...I don't want to ruin anything for anyone else either. Hi, I'm Rowi (or Laura, it's the same... my nickname is so old that became a second name ^^), 26, and I'm from Genova, Italy. In 2013 I thought it would have been tough reading 100 books. This year I read more than 200 books... I love challenges and groups, they make me discover a lot of books that I would have never found by myself probably... I also would like to improving my English and my French, reading more books in their original language.

Winter wrote: "Welcome Rowi! Wow that's a lot of books! did you get some new favorites? "Yep:
- The Children's Book
- Middlesex
- The Garden of Evening Mists
- Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
- Wives and Daughters
I read books of many different genres, I need to change often not to be bored... I think I'm quite an agitated mind :D

I've just put Helter Skelter on my list to reread - agree it's an amazing read, remember being horrified by it in my teens
The Children's Book and Middlesex are on the 1001 books you must read before you die-list, so I will get to them eventually, great to know they are good! I am that way too ^^
Winter wrote: "The Children's Book and Middlesex are on the 1001 books you must read before you die-list, so I will get to them eventually, great to know they are good! I am that way too ^^"
I'm using also that list to choose my books... I'm really addicted to challenges. These two are really amazing, as another Byatt's book in that list, Possession, that was my absolute favorite last year <3

I haven't yet read any Byatt, but maybe next year is the time to do it then!
Yeah, that addiction...
Hi everyone! My name is Willemijn. I am from the Netherlands. I joined Goodreads in the summer, just after finishing my Bachelor thesis. Now that I've graduated, I finally have more time to read. I've read 15 books since the beginning of September. I read more in autumn and winter than I do in summer, so I think I'll be going for 40 books in 2016. I can always change my goal to 50 books if it turns out I am going too fast.
I read a wide variety of genres, but my favourites are historical books and books set in a different country. I love it when a book transports me to a different time and place, and teaches me about that era or culture. I read most books in Dutch, but some of them in English as well.
I don't think I will try to complete a specific challenge. I expect to use the popsugar reading challenge and your lists for inspiration. I only have one friend on Goodreads, so I hope to find some people in this group who are into the same kind of books as I am.
I will be creating a personal challenge topic and a corner topic soon.
Nice to meet you all and good luck on your own challenges!
Hi everyone!I am Annie. I am from Gatineau, Canada.
I have studied French Literature, so it is easy to guess that I am a bookworm. I have joined Goodreads a few years ago, out of curiosity mostly, but I was not very active. I had not heard of the Reading Challenge until last week (!!), and I decided to join, because why not? :)
I am still working on my challenge, but I think I am going to stick with 1 book per week, because there are periods where I don't have much time to read. I also have a few massive books in my "to-read" tower (it is so huge that I cannot call it a "pile" anymore), so I think that 52 titles will be a good challenge for me.
I am very curious by nature, so one could probably describe my tastes as eclectic when it comes to books: fiction, mystery, thriller, historical fiction, science-fiction, fantasy, classics, modern, YA, ... anything that catches my attention, really.
Looking forward to sharing experiences with you!
Have fun reading, people!

Welcome Willemijn. I used to live in the Netherlands. It's such a beautiful country. The place where I could live if I could live anywhere.

You have found the perfect place. I'm so glad you are here.
My name is Amanda. I'm in the North Eastern United States. I found this group while looking for groups that do challenges. I read anything and everything. I am looking forward to making friends and reading new books. I have a blog located here and I also have a Youtube channel I will be starting at the beginning of the year, which is located here.
Hi Amanda welcome, sounds like you are ready to jump right in! I cant wait to get to know you and swap some authors.
Hello everyone. I'm Nikinnia, or Niki. I enjoy most genres of books, but I don't read many horror, western, or historical fiction books. I'm originally from Georgia, but currently live in South Carolina. I found this group from a Goodreads friend. My reading goal for 2016 is 300 books. I'm looking forward to meeting many new friends.
Kadijah Michelle wrote: "Welcome Willemijn. I used to live in the Netherlands. It's such a beautiful country. The place where I could live if I could live anywhere."Thanks
I do enjoy living here, but if I could live anywhere, I don't think I would stay. I'd much rather live in the UK. If a job opportunity would ever present itself, I don't think I'd have to think about it for very long.
Hello! I am Shelby, I'm from the US. I like reading mysteries, YA, fiction, horror, sometimes poetry and a few others. Just depends on my mood at the time :) I found your group after realizing there were groups on here! Haha. I've been using this site since this summer and I am JUST NOW finding out about groups, how sad! I am goin for a goal of 35 books in 2016. My goal for my current deployment was 15 and I achieved that within a couple months, so I'm lookin to at least double that next year.
Hi! I'm Alex from Iran. My favorite genres are fantasy and YA, but I like to expand my reading experiences and will read everything that I'd get my hands on. I found out about the group while I was searching for reading challenges. Since I've been lacking in my reading lately, my TBR list has grown way too big and I really hope to make it smaller in 2016. I plan to read as much as I can, and I will, except for exam seasons -which I have to study. I'm a parallel reader (I think I just made up a word) meaning I always read a lot of books at the same time, even if I don't have the time to. My expectations for 2016 are around 300 books but I've always been too optimistic, so I have to wait and see!
