Hello Mayra!

Well done and congratulations for almost reaching your sensible goal of 16 - how very poetic of you to do 16 books in 2016.

Yup. I would suggest pushing the number up but be realistic.

Good luck and happy reading!

Hi Nick,
Well I can't take all the credit, I actually came across a challenge on Instagram and it was called 16 in 16 and then while trying to convince a friend to try the pop sugar one with me she kept insisting it was to many books so I said fine lets start small, 16 in 16 but she decided to go for 12 one a month, so I stayed with the idea.... just 3 more to go, and since last year I only managed 13 it seemed appropriate. :)

Happy reading to you as well.

Ah OK. Yes, Instagram is a good place to get into different challenges and whatnot.

I'm in my 20s. I did try reading All Quiet on the Western before when I was still in high school. I don't remember why I didn't finish it. It was interesting, but I probably couldn't appreciate it back then. I'll try reading it again sometime.

Hello Elma!

I'm really glad there are a lot young readers out there, who really seem to be enjoying their books.

I'm not that big into YA books, so I cannot give you any recommendations I'm afraid.

Michael | 2 comments Hi, i'm Michael and live in Belgium.
Most of the books i read are works of history, although i also like early works of philosophy.
I'd like to read at least 16 books in 2016 and i joined this group because there a lot of books i'm interested in, but often i fail to make time to read them. So this is somewhat of a commitment to my goal of reading a bit more and to talk about books with others, since none of my friends enjoy reading.

I recently read Churchill's Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of The Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII and thought it was quite good.

Taylor C | 454 comments Hello Karen! :)
I'm recommending a classic; on Amazon US you can get the entire Oz collection by Frank L Baum for only 99 cents as a KINDLE edition. The actual paper books are much more expensive, as they should be in my opinion. Not sure about UK prices, but revisiting a classic is a humbling feeling.

Kourtney (natural_shorty) | 24 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Kourtney from the United States. I used to be an avid reader throughout grade school but since I've come to college I've fell off. I recently got excited about reading again though, discovered goodreads, and thought joining a book club/group would be a good idea.

I like to read young adult alot and I gear mostly to YA dystopian, YA contemporary and some YA fantasy, however my I'm still trying to rediscover my tastes in books.

I found this group just by looking through some of the different groups on here and this one stood out to me.

My reading goal this year is 26 books. I'm pretty sure I'll pass this because I'm a fast reader, but I wanted to do something attainable because college can really eat up your time.

Really excited about participating in this group!

Beverly (zippymom) | 1484 comments Hi--I love reading just about anything (except romance) and attempting challenges so this seems like a great place to join in. I live in Southern Indiana with my long suffering husband who can't understand why the book stacks seem to be getting taller and taller!! I found this group when I was just browsing through some posts. The goal I've already set for myself is 180 books. I know that sounds like a lot but I review for the Mock Caldecott Awards at our library and so I read about 50 books just for that every year. In addition I belong to 6 different book clubs, so that's another 80+. It actually leaves me only a small amount of time to read just things that I want to read! :) Please feel free to send me a friend request if you want!! Glad to be here with you all.

Very excited about this bookclub and goodreads! :)

Sonny Recio | 7 comments Good day everyone! my name is Sonny and I'm from Philippines. I got interested in reading books since I graduated from college.

Mostly I preferred to read something that improves myself such as personal development/self-help books and books related to my profession. For now at the very least. But I'm planning to venture other genres as well if I have the time since I taken the liking and recently appreciated reading books in general.

I find the group through google search.

My reading goal mostly was to learn big things with regards to personal development. I wanted to improve myself and practice self-control over all the things happening around me.

message 937: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone!

My name is Anna and I'm from Russia.

I enjoy reading classics, historical fiction and urban fantasy. My least favorite genres are contemporary fiction and crime/mystery fiction, although I stay open-minded for any genre.

I have never been an active reader, and I started to have a real interest in reading only a few months ago. So I decided to set a goal of 40 books for this year, so that my TBR pile wouldn't intimidate me. It consists mostly of classics that I'm embarrassed I haven't read yet. But there are also some YA books.

Genevieve | 1 comments Hi my name is Genevie and I'm from Melbourne, Australia.

My goal is to read 200 books this year as I'm a fast reader, but I'm not fussed if I'm under this. I've never kept a tally of the books I read in a year, so this will be my baseline going forward.

I love making friends and discussing books, and enjoy getting and giving recommendations. :)

Happy reading all!

message 942: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (trinitybookworm) Hello, all!
I am from North Carolina.
I love just about every genre. I love horror. I have recently discovered how much I like science fiction. During college I discovered a love for classics, though I still have so many to get through. I don't really like history, but I do like true crime (and I guess that can sort of fit into the history genre). I also occasionally like a good bizarro book.
I was invited to join this group by a friend who is in a book club that I started last year.
My reading goal this year is 30 books. I am also working on a reading challenge that instructs you in how to pick a different book for each month. In addition to those I am also in a book club that reads a new book every 4-5 weeks. I am using the reading challenge and book club books to reach my goal of 30 books this year (I don't think I could read 30 goal book, 12 challenge books, and 10-12 book club books all in one year!).

message 943: by Agus (new)

Agus Ekanurdi | 1 comments Hello, I'm Agus. I'm from Singapore and I just published my new book Cook Your Way to Love & Harmony

Cook Your Way to Love & Harmony is an honest, heartwarming account of Agus Ekanurdi and Frida Antony's experiences and struggles early in their relationship, and how they grew in friendship and love through the power of home cooking.

Inspired by his father, So Kong Hoo, Agus began cooking for Frida when they first lived together. Their communication skills were weak and their relationship was floundering… but cooking and sharing meals together ultimately led them through this difficult time, into understanding and unity.

Readers will see themselves in Agus and Frida, will come to understand much about cooking at home, and hopefully, will be inspired to improve their own relationships by cooking for their loved ones.

I am new to Goodreads and I'm looking forward to read more books in Goodreads and also looking forward to hear more questions or comments related to my book.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) Hi everyone, I'm Randy from Southern California.

I'm going to read 20 books in 2016. I know that's not much compared to many of the other readers out there, but I am pretty busy with work and being a dad.

I read 6-7 books at a time for different genres because I have found that I get bored when I read just one book for long stretches. Mixing it up helps keep me interested. I do usually have one main book I try to focus on daily and I work the others in where I can. I read about 20 pages a day on average.

I'm always looking for Goodreads friends - I tend to send friend requests to people who have read books/series I am currently reading, especially if we have a lot of books/ratings in common. I accept all friend requests. When I am deciding to add a book to my Wish List I usually look at friend reviews first.

For 2016 I have already read:
1. The High Window by Raymond Chandler - Philip Marlowe #3, not as good as the first two (3 stars)
2. The Mothman Prophecies by John A Keel - enjoyed the movie, found the book used and thought I might enjoy it. I was wrong. (2 stars)
3. Night Fall by Nelson DeMille - John Corey #3, enjoyable as always just for the witty dialogue (3 stars)
4. The Big Short by Michael Lewis - my first Michael Lewis read but won't be my last. Although the book focuses on a few individuals who made an obscene amount of money betting on the collapse of the subprime lending market, you will learn a lot about how Wall Street works and why/how our financial markets are so corrupt (5 stars)
5. The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk - took me almost a year to finish but it was well worth it, starts very slow but it is a real page-turner for the last third (4 stars)
6. Zero History by William Gibson - Blue Ant #3 - The Blue Ant trilogy mercifully comes to an end in this book about...uh, blue jeans? Gibson's Neuromancer is one of my favorite books but his recent work leaves a lot to be desired - I think it can be summed up thusly: Needs more ninjas. (1 star)
7. A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson - more amusing than hilarious, and fairly uneven, the best parts are the repartee between Bryson and his recovering alcoholic friend Katz (3 stars)
8. The Walking Dead Compendium Vol. 1 by Robert Kirkland - I don't read a lot of comic books/graphic novels but I enjoy them from time to time. This collection of the first 48 issues of the comic book that is the basis for the TV series (to which I am addicted, and waiting for Netflix to get Season 6) is a fantastic value for the price, especially with a Barnes & Noble membership and a 20% off coupon (4 stars)

There's more info on my profile and on my 2016 Reading Challenge Post if anyone is interested.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Good luck on your Reading Challenges, and I hope 2016 is a bountiful year for you all!

Hi, everyone, I'm Dionne. I enjoy reading and always have. My favorite genre of books are Christian fiction and memoirs. I haven't set an "etched in stone" reading goal yet, but it will probably be set at eight books. I am choosing 8 books since there are 8 months left to this year; one book for each month left in this year. I look forward to sharing what I am reading and seeing what others are reading.
