message 801: by Anneke (new)

Anneke (nedyfay) Hi, fellow bookworms!

I'm Anneke. People call me Aki, Nedyfay, Fay, Nedy, or Panda. I'm 29 years old, or so they tell me, and I live in Trondheim, Norway.

I am pretty much an omnivore when it comes to books. Space operas and hard science fiction isn't my thing though. I like books that focus on human relations - or just a good horror book. Which is weird, as I am a wimp.

I didn't find this group as much as this group found me, through Winter. She made me a delicious dinner one day and told me about this group. And here I am!

My reading goal is 100 books. I have a lot of them planned out already through my Day Zero list (if you're on Day Zero Project, my username is Nedyfay - feel free to add me!) and I feel I'm well on my way. I'm currently reading The Way of Kings (Sanderson) and The Count of Monte Cristo (Dumas). I learnt to read several books at the time when I got two cats, as they like to sleep on whatever I'm reading. As cats do.

Thank you for having me!

Anneke (nedyfay) Thanks for the welcome, Julia and Cassandra. You both have amazingly beautiful names.

And yes, Winter. I did. She died due to complications of childbirth. Sooo...I shouldn't expect a "yay happy to see you!" next time?

message 809: by Heather (new)

Heather (musing_metzger) Greetings from Central Florida! My name is Heather and I joined the 2016 Reading Challenge group a little over a month ago. This is the first reading group that I have ever been a part of and I am late getting to this introduction because I have been enjoying many of the other wonderful features.

I am currently participating in the A to Z Challenge: Character Edition. I have also committed to read 400 books in 2016.

I am looking forward to participating in other reading challenges and group reads throughout the year. I have always loved a good challenge! :)

I am a fast reader, but I also love to read graphic novels. They run up the book total very quickly ;)

message 813: by Kenia (new)

Kenia (keniayeli) | 1 comments Hello! My name is Kenia. I'm from New York City. My reading tastes have recently shifted a bit. I've found myself reading a lot of non-fiction which I used to dislike. Otherwise, I like fiction (especially historical-fiction). I found this group through a Good Reads friend. She joined and so it popped up on my feed. My goal for the year is 65 books. I look forward to reading this club's selections!

message 814: by Ana (new)

Ana Hello. I'm Ana, I'm from New Jersey, U.S., been married for 23 years and have no children. I am employed at a large financial firm in New York.

Regarding my reading habits, which is why we are here, I am mostly attracted to non-fiction but am trying to expand my horizons. This year I have set a goal to read 50 books (hopefully more) in a variety of genres. I have even added a poetry book to my TBR which is a first. I'm thinking the only thing I'm not ready to explore is horror.... I know I'm a chicken.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Ana

message 817: by Ju (last edited Mar 07, 2016 12:38AM) (new)

Ju Transcendancing (transcendancing) Hi all,

I am from Melbourne, Australia - a city I am head over heels in love with.

I love to read all kinds of speculative fiction - sci-fi, fantasy, and all of the wonderful sub-genres. That said, I tend to shy away from things that are too grim or horror focused.

I found the group because a friend signed up to the TBR Twins challenge and that sounded both fun and manageable to me.

My goal this year is similar to my goal for last year - 75 books. I'm a full time student, I'm studying to qualify as a Midwife. It's pretty intensive and so I don't always read as much as I'd like - but I do consistently read for leisure as part of my self care and stress relief. I do love reading so much!

I am looking forward to participating, although I expect some months will be quiet.

Happy reading!

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Welcome!

How much and what you participate in is completely up to you. :) There's a lot of different things to join, please don't hesitate to ask if I can be of help in any way! :)

Thanks so much! For now I've posted about my yearly goal and signed up for the April TBR Twins which I'm pretty excited about :)

message 821: by Heli (new)

Heli | 1 comments Hi everyone!

I'm Heli, I come from Finland and currently live in Germany.

At the moment I'm very much into sci-fi, mystery, thriller and kind of magical realism. I also like contemporary novels and especially some scientific knowledge woven into the fictional story. Perhaps my taste is easier described through what I usually don't like: romance books :P

A friend recommended this group to me.

I'm usually a very slow reader, so that's why my goal for this year is to read at least two books a month. I hope I will read more though :)

message 822: by Kiki (new)

Kiki (kiruthika_p) | 1 comments Hey Guys! This is Kiruthika from India. I love reading and I get to addicted to books. I have been a member of Goodreads for 2 years now but did not know about the group. I am glad I am stumbled across this group. My favorite genres are YA, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Mystery, Thriller, Romance, Paranormal... Yea pretty much any interesting book.

And this year, I have challenged myself to read 100 books.! So far, I am on track.!

message 826: by Goedele (new)

Goedele Hi,

I'm Goedele from Belgium.

I found this group because this year I want to fulfill the Pop Sugar Reading Contest. The group gave me already some tips on which books to read.
I like to read all kind of books, especially historical fiction and travel books. But I joined the popsugar reading contest because I want to read different types of bookes then the ones I normally read.

message 830: by Destiny (new)

Destiny (destinyfsingh) | 59 comments Hi Everyone!
I was currently placed on bed rest, so I decided to join an online bookclub. I've browsed Goodreads for quite some time in the past, but I never knew about the groups.
I enjoy cultural studies (non-fiction), contemporary fiction, YA, and mystery/thrillers.
My goal is to read 25 books in 2016 (maybe more). I'm currently in the middle of two that I hope to wrap up this week.

message 832: by Aria (new)

Aria May (ThatReeader) | 1 comments Hey everyone! I'm Aria May and I'm from the UK :)

I like to read books that are mainly related to sci-fi, romance or (in the summer times, contemporary). I found your group through browsing over the links on the website - I only joined a few days ago, so i'm still getting to grasps with the whole thing.

My reading goal is thirty books - I've already read five books (but I don't know how to update this on my challenge whoops hehe). I'm currently reading "Me Before You" and I'm dreading finishing it off! Only a hundred more pages to go!

Akshay Krishna (venom92) Hello All,

This is Akshay the Gamer who has newly ventured into books. Had a goodreads account for quite a while now and thought will change my hobby from gaming to books for a while. Please bear with me if i don't get any of your "terminologies" :P . Nice meeting you all :)

message 836: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (momwholovestoread) | 4 comments Hi! I'm Kimmy. Just found this group because one of my best friend's is in it. I'm from NYC. My 2016 reading challenge is 52 books and so far I am reading enough to hit that goal. I believe I've read 12 books so far this year.

I'm currently reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.

message 837: by Sam (new)

Sam Hi, I'm Lisa. I found this group by chance but i'm glad I did.
I've read 21 books this year and I'm very happy since I didn't really read a lot last year. I just have to be careful not to stumble into a new book, when there's important school work to be done :P
My goal for this year was to read a book at least every other week, but i've already surpassed this, so i might increase it.
I'm currently (re)reading the Age of the Five Trilogy by Trudi Canavan, but i'm always looking for new books!

message 838: by ✨ jami ✨ (new)

✨ jami ✨ (jamieson_) | 256 comments Hi Lisa! Welcome to the group!! Your goal sounds like a good one. I 100% know what it's like to be caught between a book and schoolwork aha.

What's the age of five trilogy about? I've not heard of it ?

message 839: by Lauren (: (new)

Lauren (: (laurencreads) | 75 comments Hi I'm Lauren! I found this group as I was googling something and thought it was going to be a great motivation to encourage me to read more. My goal is to read 55 books this year, but with school I can only hope I can read that much.

message 840: by Sam (new)

Sam Hi Jamieson.
It's a fantasy book series and the first one can be found here Priestess of the White
While I have to agree with some comments that say the first book is a bit of a drag and predictable, i think the other two books definitely have the better storyline and it gets way better as all the different storylines get together, before that it's simply many different stories in one book. Also the Pov shifts and the fantasy names for literally every being and thing in the story make it kind of hard to get into it, (on my first read I had to start over three times and the last one I only managed because I had holidays and had fallen ill and thus enough freetime to read the book in one setting :D)
Anyway the main character is Auraya, she has magical power and she is first trained to be a priestess, but thanks to her strong powers she becomes the last of the five 'white' (the highest order in their religion) their religion is lead by five gods that sometimes appear to their loyal followers. But of course not everything is as she is lead to believe. There's conflicts, love, drama, war and magic. (also i'm bad at describing books) but yeah: kinda hard to get into at first, but i've fallen in love.

Bridgette | 4 comments Hi
I'm Bridgette and I'm from the UK. I like to read fantasy and sci-fi books. My goal is 2016 but im thinking to reduce it as I am lagging a fair bit. :)

message 843: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Hello :-)
I am from Cabot, AR. I mostly like to read mysteries. But I'm trying to read from more genres. Literature, general fiction, history and science fiction are some I have expanded into. I found this group in a search of groups here in Goodreads. Last year I read 150 books, so this year my goal is to read 200 books. Right now, I'm a little behind in my count from where I'd really like to be.

Welcome! I'm also Canadian born and raised, although my dad did a couple of sabbaticals in the US & I did one of my bachelor's degrees there. But when I got married I moved to the States and have been here ever since (still married to the same person).

message 845: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Hi, I'm Taylor!
I'm from Atlanta, GA, and I'll read pretty much every genre of fiction if it's written well. Not a huge nonfiction fan, although I occasionally find one I like. I found this group on the "recently active groups" page, and I figured I would join. My goal for 2016 is 60 books.

message 846: by Tea (new)

Tea S (tea_st) | 2 comments Hi.

I am Tea and I am from Slovenia (one really small country in Europe, near Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia, with really big political, economic and social problems ... sarcasm on the side..). There are some books I prefer but, generally, I like books. Point.

So I am new here (although I sign up 2 years ago) and well I try to navigate in here the best as I can. Hmm... other than that ... because I work from home, I had a lot of free time when I am not with my wayward son. I try to organise my time but ... you know ... it is not always easy.

Well, about the genre ... everything I fancy at the moment ... from science, psichology, romance, thriller .. what catch my interest.

I hink that`s it :)

message 847: by Meg (new)

Meg M | 8 comments Hi! My name is Meg and I'm from Philadelphia, PA. I teach high school English and am therefore very interested in reading the "classics." However, I also enjoy mysteries and historical fiction. I am reading a lot for the classes that I teach, but I want to take time to actually read for pleasure which is why I joined this group. I am also hoping to come across some books to use for my students. My goal is to read 25 books this year--hopefully more, but I'll start with that goal for now. I look forward to being a part of the community!

Mashona (shona78) | 3 comments Hi - I'm from Hackensack, NJ. I stumbled upon this site by accident and I've been hooked ever since. I'm a little behind in my reading challenge but I plan on making up for lost time LOL My favorite genre is horror, favorite author is Stephen King and I am anxiously awaiting his book tour - his first stop is Jersey City, NJ and I plan on being right there!!! Happy reading everybody :-)

message 850: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 51 comments Hi everyone, my name's Lisa and I'm from Cairns, Australia.
My goal for the year is 50 books and I like pretty much everything, I guess lately it's been more thrillers, horror, sci-fi and dystopian. I like books that have been made into movies as well, it's always interesting to see how the movie compares to the book! I find the longer I browse on Goodreads the more books I add to my To Read pile and this challenge is a good way to get through some! I'm also loving the idea of the PopSugar challenge, I might give it a go! :)
