Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2016!

I'm Raika, I'm 23 and I live in Germany.
I like many different genres but recently I'm hooked on YA, Sci-Fi, dystopian novels.
I've had lists, you know that old fashioned lists on paper, full of books I wanted to read but with goodreads it'll be a lot easier to actually read all of them.
Have a nice day everyone :)

I'm from Hervey Bay in QLD, Australia. I'm a high school teacher and have been for the last few years. I have an incredible job that I find highly rewarding, albeit challenging.
One of my favourite ways to pass the time is to read for pleasure.
I have been on a bit of a dark fantasy high of late, exploring some grim dark series from Joe Abercrombie and Steven Erikson.
I do love exploring the darker side of humanity through well written prose. However, I am a sucker for the lighter (at least thematically) fiction that may strike a positive chord within my emotive nature. Yes, I have feelings.
I am a huge fan of all types of literature (I know! How does he define this term!), but I love Cormac McCarthy, Albert Camus, Neil Gaiman, Douglass Adams, George Orwell and Ernest Hemmingway to name but a few.
I plan on tackling some huge novels this year, so wish me luck!
Cheers!

I am Karen. I live in San Diego, California. I am married with 6 kids, all wonderful! I love to read, and write as well. Haven't been reading as much as I would like to, so thought I would give this a try. I really love all types of books, but my favorite is probably Fantasy, Sci-Fi. Can't wait to read my way through 2016!

I'm originally from the United States but now live in London, England with my husband (who I met online and had a long distance relationship for 4 years, now we have closed the distance). He's not an avid reader but I am so this is my little literary escape and somewhere I can talk about the books I've read and find new ones to read.
This year I'm reading 25 books as a start but I probably will end up reading more.
I'm a total kindle addict (I had to leave my bookshelves behind when I moved overseas) and while I'm not reading, I'm usually knitting, cross stitching, or crocheting. And if I'm feeling like setting down the crafts, I'm playing on our PS4 (psn username: PlasmidPower).
I usually end up reading science fiction books and like alternate future and post apocalyptic books (like Margaret Atwood) but will read anything. I love getting new recommendations and finding a book I love, but wouldn't have picked up if left to my own devices in a bookshop. I'm not a fan of cop/detective thrillers (but if you know an amazing one, change my mind haha)
Feel free to add me as a friend on here :)

I'm Adrienne and I live in the UK (Wales, to be specific).
My goal for 2016 is 55 books (I usually read around 100 a year but had a very low 2015 with moving into my first house and spending valuable reading time unpacking boxes. Mostly of books).
I am a book hoarder, don't own a kindle and have books in every available space in my house (including the kitchen cupboards). I read pretty much anything fiction wise besides crime (I do sometimes, but it's not something I seek out).
I read a lot of classics and have a soft spot for romance/chick-lit. Especially the current trend for chick-lit where girls open cupcake or sweet shops :)
Feel free to add me as I'm new to Goodreads and still figuring out how this all works!
Good luck with all your challenges :D

Looking forward to some good interaction and interesting conversation about books. I love reading about Psychology, Spirituality and Literary fiction as well as Haiku - The worlds's most popular style of Poetry originated in Japan.
Cheers!!

I'm Syakirah from Malaysia. I've just joined Goodreads recently so am still trying to get used to it. I found out about this group when I was scrolling the page.
I like reading thriller/crime and sometimes YA. Last year I started reading more romance and contemporary. Also, I'm an English major student so I also have to read a lot of literature for the courses, well mostly classical.
I never have a reading goal and also never participated in readalong. I guess I have to start thinking of the goal now and hopefully can participate in readalong soon ☺

I'm from Algeria. I love reading and i joined the group to share the merit of books. Currently i'm looking for books of fiction that deal with exile and the quest of identity. For example, novels that narrate the american indian transformation.
So, any recommendations everyone?

I read mostly literary fiction, classics, non-fiction (history and memoirs mostly), and fantasy. I am also attempting to read my way through the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.
I usually read about 60 books in a year, and enjoy making lists and challenging myself, so this group appears to be right up my alley.

- Where are you from?
I'm a peruvian currently living in Brazil :)
- What kinds of books do you like to read?
I don't have a particular kind of book interest, I want to have an unique experience on every book I'll read, since entertaining, reflection till education!
- How did you find our group?
I was looking for a group so I can find people who believe that reading it's an important activity for intellectual and personal development. Since I don't have many friends who likes to read, I need some "group" that I can share this
Also, I'm in this status "I want to read but don't know that to read" so I expect some kind of guidance about tips, recommendations, conversation and stuff
- What's your reading goal?
My first goal will be 1book per month, but I want to increase this rate till 1 book per week in a future : )
EXTRA:
Beforehand I'm excusing me for my poor english! hehe
Greetings and Happy Reading!

I work in a library in the children's area so I also enjoy reading fiction for kids and teens!
My main reading goal is to broaden my horizons and branch out into reading some different genres.
I'm looking forward to chatting with you all!

Great to see you here :).

my name is Nour. Im arabic and I'm from Palestine.
i'm new to goodread but i'm really enjoying it !
i read almost everything ,novels , poetry , science , history , religion, philosophy and politics .
my challenge is 2 books a month and i hope to accomplish it.
i really like the group , it's active and alive .
HAPPY READING :)

I hope to be motivated by joining a book club to actually finish what I start.
I read pretty much all genres, though have never read any romance or really any "whodoneit" type mysteries (e.g., Christie). I tend to read a lot more non fiction than fiction in general.
Thanks!

I read (or am open to reading) almost anything except romance.
Anyway, I already bought my book of the month (March '16). I'll see you guys in the discussion thread.

I'm Erika and I'm from California. I love Goodreads, I use the app on my phone everyday!
I mostly like to read YA but I'm also into Fiction, Mystery and History.
This year I decided to shoot for 25 books. Last year I tried the 52 which is a book a week and it was just too difficult for me. I feel much safer in this goal. So far I've got 3 down! On my list this year I thought I would be adventurous and add a Horror book, but I have no idea what to read! Paranormal is what I'm going for. Any suggestions or recommendations would be incredibly helpful.
I hope everyone has a blast reading!

This year I'd like to read 'new' genres for me, more biographies and non-fiction.
Happy reading! :)

I've recently started using goodreads and still trying to understand how it works.
I love reading and the more I get older the more I enjoy it! I'd be interested to meet people in groups who, like me, enjoy getting lost in words...
I like reading fictions, history, philosophy, art books...not so much into fantasy, mistery novels.
I've set 80 books as a goal - trying to push a bit this year, hope to find the time to accomplish it!
Looking forward to meeting new people, and have new suggestions and talks about books!
Happy reading day ( or moments) to everyone!

I love reading since I was a child and I like above all fictions, mistery and history.
I love challenges and Goodreads is the right place :)
Happy reading to all

OH, i'm from The U.S

I am Ellie from Bulgaria. I like to read different books from Tolstoy to Pratchett, depending on my mood.
I found the group while I was just browsing in GR, looking for nothing in particular.
I have a big pile of books to read and I hope to read at least the half of it this year. The thing is that it's getting bigger each day.

I idolize people who are able to read so many books a year. B-)

Well, to have a goal is one thing, to achieve it is another :) I hope I will achieve mine, but only time will show.

I love fantasy, physiological thrillers, crime and I basically read whatever people recommend to me :)
I hope to get lots of new friends and reading buddies on here so feel free to send me a friend request or follow my updates!
Much love xx

I read all kinds of stuff, but my favorite has been mysteries since I was a kid reading Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. I also enjoy science fiction, fantasy, YA, middle grade, and whatever sounds good.
I stumbled across the Modern Mrs. Darcy challenge recently, and then thought I'd look what groups might be discussing that challenge, and this was one of the groups that popped up. Glad to be here!
My overall goal for this year is 60 books, though that might end up being revised upward, since I'm well ahead of schedule.
I've always had a lot of hobbies, though reading will always be the first love, and my highest number of books read in a year was 73 in 2008. Late that year I also happened to learn how to knit, and my reading numbers plummeted to all-time low of 13 in 2010. Since then I've been working my way back up again, hoping for maybe around 100 books a year eventually. But I'd be happy with less, as long as it's never as low as 13 again!
