Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2016!

I like to read all sorts of books. I'm a sucker for romance. But lately I've also gotten really into what's considered "cozy" mysteries. However, if the book sounds interesting, I'm usually willing to give it a try no matter what type of book.
Found the group when I was looking through the groups. Simple as that! Haha.
My goal for 2016 is to read 25 books....maybe more. We'll see how it goes.

I read fiction and nonfiction. Nonfiction is mainly limited to psychology, sociology and psychiatry but there are exceptions, of course. I read mainly fiction with the occasional nonfiction book.
For fiction and my preferences, I'd say literary fiction and historical fiction are my favorites. My tastes are broad and I'm looking forward to adding to my tbr pile here! Romances are not my thing but, who knows, if someone highly recommends a romance novel, I'll give it a shot.
I like novels that have a dark edge, too. Gone, Girl by Gillian Flynn, for example. House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubois III is another example.
I'm a lawyer but also have a psychology degree. I'd gladly just stay home and read for pleasure lol
I used to be a book reviewer for several years and the exposure to new authors (or new to me) was great.
My shelf is new and disorganized as I'm new here and haven't had enough time to organize it. I wish I'd kept a journal of all the books I have read over the years.
Thanks for having me.

My name is Magda. I'm originally from Poland, but I currently live in in England.
I like reading all genres, but I generally tend to go for YA, romance, and thrillers.
I found this group by scrolling around this website.
My reading goal for this year is to accomplish the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge 2016.
I hope that I'll be able to make new friends from this group and that everyone is enjoying their current reads :) xx

My name is Jared and I live on the spacecoast in Florida. I am originally from western Pennsylvania, and my heart misses that part so much. But to cope with the homesickness I get lost in books and it keeps me busy. My goal for 2016 is a whopping 60 books and I am on track with the goal. I like christian, non-fiction, thriller, memoirs, military current and history, and a few of everything else. I really love reading and hope to go to college for some type of reading. I enjoy fishing, walking, bike riding, and I also volunteer at the local public library. good luck on all your goals and God Bless everyone. Sincerely Jared

I'm Srishti and am from India.
I generally like to read books from almost all genres.(but not cooking or losing weight books)lol. I found this group while exploring goodreads. I'm excited to know more about members of this group, and share new things with you people. My goal for 2016 is to read atleast 25 books.(I'll be glad if it crosses that limit though). And most definitely I welcome your recommendations or views on any books. feel free to send me a friend request and happy reading to all :) and happy listening to those who are into audiobooks. :P

I enjoy Paranormal, Paranormal Romance, Fantasy, Science Fiction. I read a lot of YA books with my son as well as Graphic Novels/Manga.
I stumbled onto this group when searching through the group section of Goodreads. I read a lot more then any of my friends and family so I am always looking for online friends to share my love of reading with. So feel free to friend request me if you like.
I have set my Goodreads goal for 135 books this year. More then I have ever done. I am fine if I don't complete it, reading is something fun to do and so I view it as a fun challenge for myself.

My name is Fabiola, I am from Venezuela and I am 20 years old.
This is my first time in a Reading Group, and the truth is that I am not a good with English; so, I have to apologize if I kill the language at any time... but I hope to enjoy with all of you because I join to the group looking to improve and learn how to use this beautiful idiom.
I love classics, and my favorite subjects are infidelity , love and loneliness. I am student of literature so I often read many things; I think is important read about everything, try new genres or authors makes you more objective, it gives you an oportunity to find incredibily new perspectives.
My challenge for this year: 101 books.
I trying to complete also the Read Challenge 2016 by PopSugar and a personal list named "10 jewels of literature".
Thanks for pay me attention ;)
I hope to read you.

bt I also enjoy mystery, y.a, and fiction.
I found this group in suggestion.

I love a few specific genres: my first love as a budding YA reader was mystery and thriller. Locked room mysteries set my imagination on fire. I also love literary fiction, especially Canadian Lit, some Russian and more British and American than I ever realized! I have always loved psychological horror and classic ghost stories. There's nothing I won't read really -- I won't even refuse romance and westerns, but they aren't typically my cup of tea. I'm looking to read more of these dark romances that are so popular right now (in the vein of Gone Girl and Second Life).
Some of my favourite authors and books: Margaret Atwood (The Robber Bride, Cat's Eye, and almost all her books are fantastic), Rohinton Mistry (A Fine Balance), Stephen King (Misery, among others), Carol Shields, Barbara Gowdy, Dostoevsky, Nabokov, Shirley Jackson, many poets, Paul Auster, Cintra Wilson, Jhumpa Lahiri, Jasmine by Bharati Mukherjee, Ann-Marie MacDonald, old Mary Higgins Clark, J. Randy Taraborrelli's celebrity biographies, micro histories/nonfiction, etc etc.
Themes I'm drawn to: dark family secrets, crime cover-ups in small or close-knit communities, bildungroman/coming of age, anomie and alienation in the modern world, dystopian societies, midlife crises, lives of people coming undone.
Good character development is more important than plot (to me). I love well-developed, detailed characters who pop off the page. They make me want to keep reading. Intricate and fussy plots annoy me.
I don't hesitate to dump a book that isn't giving it to me. Time is precious, my friends...we only have so many years on this earth and I want to read some good stuff, not crap!
I troll Goodreads everyday for books to read, info on the books I'm reading and conversation about books. It's my favourite social media corner of the web.
Feel free to add me and explore my bookshelves. It would be great to chat with other booklovers.
I went on way too long!
Happy reading, all!

Hi, I'm so happy see a fellow Canadian lit lover! Have you also read Margaret Laurence, Gabrielle Roy and some of the other older Canadian lit writers?

I love to read; it has been a lifelong passion for me. Some years I read more than others, and this is hopefully an on year for me. There are so many books on my bookshelves at home, and on my tablet's kindle app, that I either haven't read yet or that I want to read again.
I read all kinds of books - if you were to look at my bookshelves you'd see one shelf of classics, one of fun mysteries by the likes of Janet Evanovich and Sue Grafton, one filled with horse books, one shelf of VC Andrews novels, one of reference books, one of my childhood favorites, one of biographies and other non-fiction works, and quite a few shelves that are a mix of genres and time periods and settings.
My reading goal in 2016 is to read at least 125 books. Since I found and joined some of the groups, I have quite a few challenges that will help me reach that goal and diversify my reading.

Thanks JuliaOrlando!!! :-).

My current goal is to read 10 books for 2016, but expect to surpass this. I'll read anything that holds my attention, but I have a soft spot for fictional works. I love fantasy and sci-fi. This year I would like to look into historical fiction, as well as steampunk fiction.
I am open to any recommendations. :)

I love to read, but I haven't read as much lately. I mostly read fantasy and different fiction genres. I'm not a huge fan of pure romantic books, but I do like Sarah Dessen. Right now I'm reading the Night Huntress novels, by Jeaniene Frost, and I find them astonishing. Anyway, my reading goal for 2016 is to read 30 books, and I'd also like to broaden my usual book types, if you know what I mean.
It'll be fun to be in this group! :)
Ps. Feel free to give me recommendations, so we can discuss the books later!

I am from Vermont in the USA
I am an avid reader.
I like mysteries and psychological thrillers. I also read non fiction
Looking forward to hearing about different books and comments.
time to read

I am from India and like you all, share the love for Book. My favorite genre would be Mysteries, fiction and to some extent I have enjoyed reading Biographies too. My reading goal for the year would be 20 books. It was initially 50 but took me a while to realize how unreal I was being. I would love to broaden my knowledge about new authors, books. Always open for recommendations.
Happy Reading!!!!

Hey I am Dori from South Carolina, USA.
I enjoy pretty much all genres of books but Fantasy, Dystopian or Thriller is my all time favorite. I am really into meeting new people and looking to maybe do some buddy reads.

I'm Sari and I'm from Finland. Yes, this small country which neighbour is Russia. My hometown is called Nokia. Yes, there is city which name is the same that the mobile phone company. When you live country like Finland, there is usual quite hard find books which is their original languages, so it's reason why I read much e-books, because I found that for examples from US/UK area there is so many writers which will be popular even in here, if their books will come out in the northern Europe. And now I read almost 90% books in English because the scale is much bigger than finnish books.
I have read any kind of books like my own bookshelves (there might be over 70 different bookshelves, I think) looks, but it's difficult say what kind of books are my favorites. I like read romance, historical fiction, non-fiction, mystery/thrillers, manga/manhwa/other comics, sports, drama, crime and many others.
I found this group because it was recommended by other group. (one Finnish book group). I have spend many years with Goodreads and found many new and interesting books in here. This year my reading goal might be 150 books in year but it can be change to larger if it seems to be too easy amount of books to get. Well last year I read almost 400 books (I had time, because I have been un-employee after my graduated/bachelor's degree), so it's quite small goal, but I think it's ok, because this year I will have entrance examinations of university and I hope that I will start next autumn my master's degree.
Those 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die sounds interesting, maybe even I should looks what kind of books there are and what I have read and what not. But there is quite similar book list where is many finnish books, so maybe those two will be give to me some things to read which isn't always similar books what I now read because my favorite writers are J.R.Ward, J.K.Rowling, Kristen Ashley, Sharon Sala or some finnish writers which write similar style/genre etc.
I hope that you have good time to read any books you want and that I will find again many new books what I can read.
-Sari

I'm Chelle. I live in the United States. I like to read almost all genres, but I have a particular love for YA and Dystopian.
My goal this year is 45 books. I think it's a pretty healthy goal considering I work full time and have an affinity for eating tacos with my friends after work (really cuts into my reading time..haha).

Growing up I was partial to horror, thriller, ghost, etc but lately I have found Beverly Lewis and while I am not religious I have found a new love in reading Amish books Strange combination of books I read, Stephen King and Beverly Lewis.
I found the group while searching the recently active groups because I am also looking for some friends with similar interests that I can talk to about the books I am reading. It seems like no one I know really reads anymore or they are not reading anything I am even close to wanting to read.
My goal for this year is 36 books, 3 books per month which is a pretty tall order considering I am a mom to 4 little girls and work full time. But I am doing good so far, I am on my 4th book

I'm from Florida. I read mostly YA and fantasy. I'm gonna try to read books outside YA (I want to read more classics, biographies, etc). I am excited to be in this club. I believe joining this club with help me become more interactive and social with other people, on the internet and eventually outside of the internet.

I am Jessica from Texas. This is my third reading challenge, though I read a lot regardless of the challenge. I will read just about anything and everything, but generally stick to Romance as I can pick those up and down as my schedule permits.
Looking forward to going though the year with y'all!

The name's Koen and currently living in Belgium (and probably remaining there quite some years still ;))
I finally picked up reading again since last year... Read a lot of books when I was younger, but in my adolescence didn't find time to read that much anymore.
That changed a little while back: somebody recommended a series called A song of Ice and Fire, since I'm a fantasy/scifi enthousiast. Been reading ever since!! Most of it fantasy, but also back to thrillers. Used to read a lot of those (King/Bachmann, Koontz,...).
Not really sure if I would be willing to change the venue once in a while, but for now I'm feeling good with the fantasy/scifi scenery... For me it's a nice way to escape the (sometimes brutal/harsh) reality of this world.. better to be in another cruel dimension :-P
Oh yeah, not sure if this counts too, but I see that "comics" are also on goodreads... So in that case I have to confess that I'm a real comic book fan as well... Started reading more and more recently, but always been a big fan.
I was planning on reading 10+ fantasy books this year.. But probably a lot more comics. That's why I put the counter on onehundred books.. Hope this won't be frowned upon ;)
If any of you have some good tips for good (comic) books in whatever genre, feel free to send me a mail/message/friend request..
Cheers and happy reading!
