Hi Bella!!
I read a lot of medical records because I do utilization review for workman's compensation cases. I used to do reviews for the Texas Medical Foundation, different law enforcement agencies and did part time work with a law firm. It's very interesting but after work, would totally veg; either total quiet, mind time or mindless TV. Happily, I have rediscovered reading for fun.
I would encourage your son to pursue that Master's degree; there is so much that he can do!! I wish him the best of luck with all he does:)

message 652: by Les (new)

Les Hello folks, I'm Les and I'm from Scotland. I joined Goodreads just over a year ago and I've just happened across this group.
My favourite types of book are (in no particular order), fantasy, science fiction and thrillers. Favourite authors include Simon Toyne, Marko Kloos, Joe Abercrombie and Dominic Selwood.

I've set myself a target of 35 books to read this year, I reckon I should quite comfortably manage this as last year's target was 30 and I managed 44 :-)

message 653: by Margrete (new)

Margrete | 3 comments Hi everyone :)

I'm Margrete from Norway. As all of you I love to read, and I'll read anything that grabs my attention. At the moment they all seem to have something fantasy, paranormal, or mystery related.

I found this group by searching.

Some favorite authors of many (favorite as in on my auto buy list lol): Christine Feehan, Anne Bishop, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs, Yasmine Galenorn, Joey W. Hill, Diana Gabaldon, Traci Harding

My plan is to read 75 new to me books this year, not counting re-reads that usually happen before a new book in a series I follow is released

Also at the school I work at we have Name that Book Club where they use the Texas Bluebonnet books! I also love Fiction books my favorite author is Kate Morton. My all time favorite books are Jane Eyre and Harry Potter! My passion is reading and encouraging kids to love it as well! I'm glad I found this group. My goal is to read more than 50 books this year! I'm also doing the Reading Challenge where you read 12 different books in different categories in 12 months take a look here

Wow, never imagined the job you do existed. That's why my husband and I steered our son towards nursing- he gets kind of bored doing the same thing. There are so many different types of jobs you can do as a nurse- and you just added another intriguing one to the list!

Alexandra (shinehart) | 6 comments Hi there!

I'm Alex, also known as 'Hey you behind the bushes!' hailing from Australia!
Lover of all books, will read literally anything if I think it's interesting - and if it isn't I drag myself to the end just to make sure!
Challenged myself last year, managed 28 books; am aiming for at least 35 this year. Am hoping to find like minded people who love reading too! I tried to rally some reading-savvy friends but no luck! I was steered to Good Reads so figured I'd give it a go!

Looking forward to chatting to everyone! :)

message 658: by Sinéad (new)

Sinéad (sineadm) Hi there, I'm Sinéad (pronounced Shin-aid for anyone not familiar with Irish names!) and I'm from Belfast, Ireland.

I'm open to reading most genres although I doubt horror or graphic novels will ever appear on my TBR list! I particularly like a good crime thriller or drama. I'm making my way through Jo Nesbo 's Harry Hole series and loving it!

I came across this group when I noticed another GR user was a member. I clicked, liked what I saw and here I am! My goal this year is to read 20 books. Work and life get in the way of reading much more than that! I look forward to reading your reviews and getting some new ideas! ☺

Sinéad

Carolyn (lilbittie) | 4 comments Hi my name is Carolyn and I am from Louisiana, US. I read as often as possible and my two favorite genre's are fantasy and crime. I don't have a goal for the year yet but I have never done reading on a goal so I think I will start small and say 50.....

message 660: by Shan (new)

Shan Hey there! I'm Shan and I'm from Atlanta, GA. I read all the time and like all genres. I met last year's goal so I thought I'd push the envelope a bit and go for 72 books!

message 661: by Maria (new)

Maria Johnson | 10 comments My name is Maria and I'm from Kentucky. My goal is to read 31 books this year, in various genres.

message 662: by Karin (new)

Karin | 228 comments Hi, I'm Karin, migrating here and elsewhere with the demise of Shelfari. I do various reading challenges and my goal is to combine my reading to fit into various ones and have fun along with way with fellow readers.

Also, The Martian was one of my top reads during 2015.

message 663: by Karen (new)

Karen | 4 comments Hi All, I'm Karen from Essex in the UK. I'm aiming for 52 books this year but as I'm already at 13 I think I aimed a bit low. I enjoy reading a variety of genres and I have a kindle wish list that is getting to staggering levels. I've always loved to read and I'm hoping my 16 month old son will too. It's amazing how many Xhildrens books so can amass...and so quickly lol xx

message 664: by Bong Han (new)

Bong Han Lee | 1 comments Hi,
My name is Bong Han Lee and the kind of books that have caught my attention were the non-fictions books. I would like to continue reading this type of genre until I find another genre that would motivate me to read. In the past, I was given an invitation to join Good Reads. It was until now that I joined it. My reading goal for this year 40 books.

message 665: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Hi there! Here's the short and sweet about me:
- Where are you from? Australia
- What kinds of books do you like to read? I read a bit of everything, but I do have exceptions: heavy science fiction, horror and vampires/zombies.
- How did you find our group? I was looking for some reading challenges :)
- What's your reading goal? My goal is 100 books this year.

Looking forward to joining in here!

message 666: by Julius (new)

Julius Mumia | 1 comments Hi there, My name is Julius Mumia and i'm from Kenya,my goal is to read 22 books this year, in various genres

message 667: by Carol (new)

Carol | 3 comments Hi, I'm Carol and come from the UK.

I enjoyed the popsugar reading challenge last year and although I failed to compete it, found I enjoyed many books from genres I would not normally read.

To stop me from staying in my reading comfort zone, I am looking for new ideas and recommendations this year. As a slow reader I like the fact you can read a few books and still join in the challenges

message 668: by Rachael (new)

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) | 4742 comments Hello, I'm Rachael, a British bookworm and geek. I am 24 and still read young adult books. I also like fantasy, sci-fi and historical fiction.
I have way too many favourite books and find new ones all the time but currently I adore The Time Traveler's Wife, His Dark Materials, The Invisible Library, Matilda, the Inheritance Cycle... Oh gosh, please don't make me choose! :)
On the other hand, I am absolutely sure about my least favourite book which is Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. I studied it at school and did not find it enlightening at all.
As for my 2016 reading challenge, I am hoping to read 55 books and am already well on course (see my individual challenge thread for more details and progress updates)
Aside from books, I am part of several fandoms especially Doctor Who, Sherlock and Disney. I am quite shy in real life but once you get me talking about books, I won't stop (as you can see above)! I am also happy to friend/follow fellow Goodreaders who have a similar taste in books.

message 669: by Saeed (new)

Saeed | 1 comments hi all!
I'm Saeed and live in Norway.
I read science (non-fiction) and sci-fi books for the most part. I also enjoy deep, and thought-provoking books regardless of genre.
I do read other genres and non-fiction subjects, but I hate romantic books with passion.

and, I might be in a minority here who rarely read books in-print, but listen almost exclusively to audiobooks.

I'm in my forties and still love YA books- a good story is a good story.

I liked Invisible Library, too. She didn't have a book deal in the US- I think she still doesn't- so I had to buy the book as an import. I just got The Masked City in the mail today, have you read it yet?

Hi. I haven't read The Masked City yet but it's on my wishlist.

message 672: by Kate (new)

Kate Hi all! I'm Kate from The U.S. I have been on GoodReads for awhile but have never really taken advantage of it. My mom was a librarian as I was growing up so I have been reading for as long as I can remember. I have a degree in history so of course I love anything historical but also light beach type reads, suspense, mysteries... I'll ready anything!

Cheers!
Kate

I am happy that i developed the habit of reading as it helps me a lot to improve my language, as well as to have a cool hobby, refreshing time , etc.
Looking forward to meeting new people, getting new books, finding those books i have been searching for long, etc.
Planning to read around 20 books in 2016.

message 674: by Carly (new)

Carly May | 3 comments Hi guys! I'm Carly and I'm from Michigan. I love to read pretty much anything but especially fantasy novels. I found your group when I was looking for new groups to join. My reading goal this year is to finish as many books as I can and to enjoy myself while doing so :). Reccomendations are welcome and I can't wait to get to know everyone!

message 675: by Jhanielle (new)

Jhanielle (___nielle) Hello, I'm Nielle and I'm from England. I enjoy reading all sorts of different books, but have a preference of reading YA. I am challenging myself, for this year, to read at least 50 books - and along with that to read as many classics and a variety of genres along the way too.

message 676: by Aurora (new)

Aurora | 143 comments Hi, I'm Aurora and I'm from Norway. I read mostly literary fiction, classics, non-fiction and fantasy. But I love expanding my horizon and reading from all the genres. My goal this year is to read 200 books. I heard about this group from Winter and I'm very excited to be here :)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Welcome everyone! I look forward to getting to know you! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions :)

message 678: by Yvanka (new)

Yvanka (gasoline) Hello everyone!

I'm Yvanka. Have been living in the United States for about 2,5 years now, but I'm originally from the Netherlands. Dutch is therefore my first language, but my English is good & still improving everyday with all the books I'm reading.

My interest for books is not genre-bound, so you can let me read anything. However, if I do have to give up a preference it would be sci-fi, fantasy & non-fiction. I know... the last one seems a bit odd.

The reading goal I have for 2016 is to have read 50 books by the end of the year. It seems a little bit like a stretch if I compare it to the amount of books I've read in the past few years, but I'd like to accomplish reading 1 book a week.

Since I got a late start, I better get back to reading to catch up. ;)

message 679: by Dara (new)

Dara (winged-panther) | 10 comments Hello, all. I neglected to do this so I'm doing it now as I'm still fairly new to the group. I'm from the US - FL to be exact. I found this group on the home page of the groups section and it looked like as good a place as any to start. I don't have much of a reading preference other than I do prefer fiction to non-fiction. However, if a good non-fiction is written to hold my attention I will definitely look into it. I haven't been reading much since I moved to FL (or for a few yrs since) and just got back into it last yr. So far, this yr I haven't had much time for anything as things have been busy but I hope to get more reading done. My previous goal for this yr was 1, but as I have completed that already I moved it up to 11. I know it's low compared to most of you. On top of reading, I also enjoy writing (RPing especially, but I've been known to do a short story here and there). So I guess that's all I can think of for now. Any questions then just feel free to ask!

message 680: by Rhiannon (new)

Rhiannon Bond (woozlebond) | 6 comments Hi everyone! My name is Rhiannon, I hail from Perth, Australia.

I absolutely love reading, the knowledge learnt, the adventures travelled, the feelings shared, they're all precious gems to me! I'm looking forward to participating more in the goodreads community, sharing reviews and inspirations, as well as finding new books and meeting new people.

I've decided on a 50 book challenge this year (to clear out my to-read list), if you're interested here is my corner with my list and progress. :)

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I look forward to sharing more books with everyone! Happy reading. :D

message 681: by Kaity (new)

Kaity Fisher (kitkatkaity24) Hello! My name is Kaity, and I am from Denver, Colorado. I have been reading and writing my whole life. At one point, I experienced a rough period of time. But, after re-discovering myself, I have re-discovered my love for literature and passion for writing. I am 18, and will be attending UNC this fall to earn my bachelor's in English. From there, I will become a teacher and teach English in high school.

I am trying to keep my reading goal practical, being a senior in high school with a part time job. I wanted to read 60 books this year, but I think 35 is a more practical goal for me. If I can read more, great. But for now, 35 seems do-able.

message 682: by Alexis (new)

Alexis P (apaquette201) | 1 comments Hi,
I'm Alexis, I am from Sarasota, FL. I enjoy learning, so I'll read and explore almost anything. My first love is fiction, but I'm not exclusive (ha). For example, I'm currently reading The Indifferent Stars Above by Daniel James Brown. It's nonfiction, and it walks the reader through "the harrowing saga of the Donner Party." After this, I will be reading Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. Clearly, my reading list lacks logic, but it makes me happy.

I've committed to 15 books. To me, this is challenging, but doable. I tend to make my way through fiction fairly easy (unless I plan on teaching it). Nonfiction takes me a little longer for multiple reasons.

In the end, I hope to meet some wonderful book lovers, get some suggestions for new books, and support others in their reading goals. Happy Reading!

message 683: by Shano (new)

Shano hello everyone
I'm shano, I'm from Iraq
I like all kinds of books
my personal goal is to read up to 30 books for this year and I finished 4 books till now and about to finish the fifth one so I probably read more than I challanged.

message 684: by Furrawn (new)

Furrawn Hi, everyone:)
I'm Furrawn. I am originally from beautiful Tennessee. I participated in the reading challenge last year but was shy & quiet. I'm trying to be more socially active this year.
My 2016 goal is 200 books. I hope to read more than that but am happier not feeling pushed. It's nice to meet all of you!

message 685: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (karalena) | 257 comments Hi my name is Alicia, I'm originally from the beautiful but cold state of Michigan, I love reading and decided to try to make it to 60 books this year, never read that many books in one year that I can recall so we will see how it goes.

message 686: by Isaac (last edited Feb 02, 2016 10:33PM) (new)

Isaac van der Sluis (ibvandersluis) Hello! I'm Isaac.

I'm from California but am currently in India working as an intern with an anti-trafficking organization. Reading is one of my favorite things ever. As one of my favorite fictional characters said, "Sleep is good, and books are better."

I read all kinds of books (mostly fiction, but every now and again I branch out), but lately I've been on a Sci-Fi/Fantasy binge and am currently halfway through A Song of Ice and Fire. I also love dystopian novels.

I have a 20 book reading goal for this year, and have listed the books I have in mind in this post.

I have a passion for reading, I like people who read, and I like talking about reading with people who read. It's a pleasure to meet you all :)

message 687: by Yenny (new)

Yenny (cuiyenn) | 43 comments Hi, I'm Yenny, from Jakarta Indonesia. Joined this group about a year ago since I want to have more book discussion, and a community of people who love books!

I rarely finished reading a book from cover to cover after highschool, but in 2014 I decided to start reading again, especially books in English. I don't really like foreign books translated to Indonesian since it makes the book sound less genuine, maybe it's the lack of words suitable to what the authors had in mind.

Last year I read 20+ books (if the DNFs are counted as well) which was a lot for me. I look forward to challenges and group reads in this group! :D

Amy | On_Amys_Bookshelf (fourmainesparks) | 2 comments Hello!
My name is Amy- I'm from Portland, Maine. I Love to read, mostly while knitting, although I did just start my first audiobook to listen to while working on nasty spreadsheets at work ;)
I love most genres, but science-fiction and fantasy are definite favorites. I found this group while exploring Goodreads, and am excited to meet other readers, read new books, and share book recommendations. My goal for the year is to read 50 books, but may readjust that to a higher more challenging number! :)

message 690: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi. I'm Emma and have just found this group although I've been using Goodreads for a few years now. I particularly love fantasy fiction although I do have favourites from across all genres. Put my challenge at 55 books although I'm more than likely to exceed that. Trying to include some French novels into my challenge so if anyone has any recommendations then they"ll be most welcome!

My name is Chelsea and I'm from Florida. I love reading and am most fond of fantasy, historical fiction, memoirs, and sci-fi. I found my his group while exploring goodreads; I'm new to being an active user of the site. My reading goal this year is to read a book a month, or 12 books a year. I used to literally read hundreds of books in a year, but I have stagnated since going to college and I have a much harder time finding good books nowadays.

RavenLovely | 1 comments Hi everyone!
I'm new here and super excited about my 2016 challenge....it's my very first one, and it's only February but so far so good.
I won't say my age, but my birth certificate claims I'm a grown up and have been for a while.
I am currently living in Italy, and as such have become acquainted with Amazon and B&N. My Nook has never let me down, but I prefer an actual book.
Feel free to add me to your friend list, I could use a cheerleader and would like to cheer you on as well.

message 700: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Barton (heidib915) Hey y'all, my name is Heidi and I am from South Carolina, USA.
I have been reading since I was 4 years old (now 43) and will read pretty much anything that grabs my attention. I enjoy spending time with my family, spoiling my grandchildren, reading, cooking, hunting, fishing and camping.
Please feel free to make some recommendations for me to branch out in my reading this year.... genre not a factor.....if you like it and would think someone else would enjoy it, by all means RECOMMEND it!!
Sometimes I read to detox myself from my job, other times because I need to feed my reader's soul, sometimes for information, others for pleasure.. I seriously just love to read! And I wasn't kidding when I said I have been reading since I was 4... my parents and a very special cousin nurtured my voracious desire for the written word! I thank God everyday for that!
Looking forward to making new friends, sharing wonderful books and reading new books!!
