Introduce Yourself to the Group - 2016!

I have been on GR for a few years and have just recently started joining some groups. I work in a middle school library, hence the majority of the books I read are YA. No genre is safe from me. I read them all. Recommendations from all of you would be welcomed, as I am always looking for books to add to our library.
My reading goal this calendar year is 150 books. Currently I am 6 books in.

Carol: I am like that too. My kindle is my life line! And two minutes free time is plenty reason to take it up. Sounds like might have some similar tastes ..."
I must admit that at first I didn't like the idea of changing to e-books. To me nothing beats the beauty of a real book, and I plan to buy the physical copies of all the books that I read and liked on my Kindle. However, when I had to choose between packing books that would weight a lot and I would finish in a couple of days, the e-books were the salvation.

I'm a graduate student, so a lot of the books I read are academic, but I love to read fantasy books and YA books as well as some thrillers and psychological fiction. I found this group looking for places to support a reading challenge for this year - last year, I didn't reach my goal because life happened, so I really wanted a space to be able to chat, share, and learn about good books.

I wanted to spice up my reading experience and have a motivation to read a greater variety of books so I joined this group.
I decided to challenge myself with the same goal as last year (50 books), but I'm secretly hoping that I'll read a lot more.

My name is Kaoutar. I’m from Morocco, and I’m a bookworm par excellence.
I love reading different kind of books, different genres in different languages, and I really want to read more and more.
If you have any book recommendations, that will be great! You can friend request me, as well.
I already like this group ☺☺
Looking forward to hearing from all of you.
Thank you,
Kaoutar Chahbane.

I enjoy many genres, like mystery, thriller, suspense and more, but if I had to choose a very favorite, it'd be historical fiction. I challenged myself to 100 books last year, but completed 170. My very favorite book last year was The Nightingale.
I've set a goal of 120 titles for 2016. I hope to knock out some books from the 1001 list, some Goodreads Choice winners and nominees, BOMs in GR groups and my local book club, and hopefully some fun challenges along the way. I like to find titles that work across multiple challenges... like putting together a puzzle. (Hope that's acceptable in this group.)
I'm grateful that my friend, Kathryn, introduced me to the concept of reading multiple books at once. Now I almost always have a physical book, an audiobook and an e-book in progress. That way, I can to listen to a book while driving or cooking; read on my phone or tablet in low-light situations; or enjoy a traditional book with all its wonderful textures and paper smell when I have the luxury of free time and good lighting.
Looking forward to meeting you all and enjoying some reads together.

I just recently joined GoodReads and have no clue if I am doing things correctly but doing something is better than nothing, right?
I am 71 and have enjoyed a long career as a research scientist. As a child I had lots of trouble learning to read. I did well in math and science but I seemed to lag far behind in reading. Finally I did learn to enjoy reading and now that I am no longer part of the workaholic rat race I am enjoying spending some of my time doing reading that I never did before. I am still rather slow at reading. I hope I am posting this message in the right place and hope someone will speak up if I am doing this wrong.
Cheers,
Martha

Thanks! You're really nice :3

I'm Therese from Norway. I've never heard of Goodread before somebody mentioned the popsugar challenge. This sounded like a fun challenge and I found my way in here. I do read books both in English and Norwegian. Mostly I read crime/thrillers and fantasy.

That's my second year with GR a yearly challenge and I'm looking forward to it :-)

I homeschool my children, too! The oldest is 17 and a sophomore in college- he'll hopefully be starting nursing school in the fall.
Welcome to all of the new members,

I like to read YA books but I like books in other genres too, almost all of the books recommended to me, from non-fiction to religious also manga. I'd be interested in some recommendations too.
I'm really excited to know you all and I'm looking forward to this group.

I really don't remember how did I got here, but it has something to do with another challenge group. As I'm discovering lists are my kind of thing, I thought it'd be nice to have a place to track them. Anyways.
I like to read almost anything from childrens' books to horror. However, I'm not really into non-fiction, self-help, religious or art books.
My reading goal keeps getting bigger by the day, but so far it's between 36 and 60 books.

I'm Kellie, and I'm from the USA although I'm currently living in Denmark. I've been on Goodreads for a while now, but haven't joined a group, so I started poking around on the groups page and thought this one looked interesting.
My reading interests are quite broad (almost anything but pure horror and most westerns), but I tend to read a lot of YA lit because I'm an English teacher. I like that this group offers a lot of choice, and I look forward to finding out more of what it's about as I go along.
I set my Goodreads reading challenge at 120 books, so that's my general goal, but I'm looking forward to following the postings here to give me some structure and hopefully some new titles to consider.
I love talking about books, and I have really been missing my book club since we relocated. My students would probably appreciate it if I found another outlet, too. ;-)

Thanks for the welcome, Bella. Congrats on the successful schooling of your oldest! Mine are all teenage girls. :-)
I've been planning today, looking for books that will satisfy the challenges I've joined. In the Popsugar Challenge -- if you're doing that one -- item #24 is "A book with a protagonist that has your occupation." After much searching, I found that Home School is a sequel to The Graduate, and the protagonists are a couple who are home educating their sons. Yippee!

I'm Jules I'm a 30ish step-mom from Milton Ontario, and avid reader. I'm also a chocolate eating, sci-fi loving, wine drinking crocheter.
After a couple of years of not completing my reading challenges, I've decided to take it easy, and aiming for 64 books this year. Good luck to all of you!

I generally lean toward fiction books; fantasy, sci-fi, etc. I like the weird stuff! But I try to keep an open mind.
My goal for this year is 75 books. I'm optimistic that being in this group will really help!
I run a blog over on acrossthebookiverse.blogspot.com and I'm always looking for more book lovers to talk to, so feel free to send me a message, I love to chat!

I love reading books and recently got into books a few years ago due to Nicholas Sparks first romance books. I now have built up quite a collection of books.
I joined Goodreads because there are so many genres of books I have yet to explore and it's so hard to pick one book to read.
I am building my To Read library.
I joined the challenge because I want to read now books and I think this will help me to stay focused and set a goal for myself.
I am looking forward to hearing about new books and other books to read.

I am just getting back into reading after a long hiatus. I have given myself a small challenge of 5 books for 2016. I have a lot going on this year and wanted to pick a goal that was very doable and if I surpass... Great :D
For my first read of the year I have chosen James Patterson, First to Die. So far it seems like a pretty good read, I chose this one because I like reading book series where you really get to know the characters.
As for the Genres that interest me, I like a variety from crime and detective to fantasy to thrillers with a little smut thrown in for good measure!
I am open to all kinds really although hard core Science Fiction is not at the top of my list I am willing to give it a go if recommended :)
Thanks for the warm welcome and have a Great day!
Jenn

I joined Goodreads recently and my 2016 goal is currently 100 books, although this may increase because I've read some fantastic books this year already. Personally, for nonfiction I would recommend 'The Brain' by David Eagleman, which I loved because it shows how this organ, locked away in your skull, creates a complete reality for us. In terms of fiction, I really enjoyed Gloria Steinem's 'My Life on the Road', which I read as part of Our Shared Shelf. This book showed how much sexism there still is, but how incredible the results can be if you try.
I'm looking forward to reading many more books this year! Happy Reading!

I'm looking forward to reading new books and genres, hopefully lighten things up a bit!

I love reading different genres but I always seem to resort back to romance because I just love it. Most of my friends don't read that often so if you live in Sydney and are a book fanatic it'll be great to meet you!

My name is Becca and I'm from east-coast Australia (Brisvegas).
I read a lot of different genres but tend to gravitate towards YA dystopian, psychology/mental health, and fantasy. I always look for new groups when I have time on m hands and considering I am now in between jobs AND uni degrees happened upon you guys.
This year my goal is 40+ books - last year I read 39 (I want to top this as last year I was distracted with my uni dissertation).

I miss catching the train for this exact reason! Also I wish I had the time and focus to read a book a day :(
