Pat Giese | 1 comments Hello fellow readers: I'm a retired nurse, mid-westerner with a passion for reading. In lieu of my hand-written book "diary", I plan to use the Good Reads site to record comments to share & help me to recall what I read! About 80 books for me last year: mostly historical fiction, a few science-based novels; and some YA [helps me tutor those middle-school kids]. The only genre I avoid is "romance" novels. Currently reading Sandra Brown's "Mean Streak" as a variation from my usual library choices. Attend a monthly book group at our local library which I look forward to.

message 452: by Julie (new)

Julie | 11 comments Hey!
My name is Julie and I am from Denmark.
In the last couple of years I haven't been able to read a lot of books. I have decided to start up again. This year my goal is to read 30 books. I enjoy almost all genres. I will look forward to share my experiences and recommendations with you guys!

message 453: by Lillian (new)

Lillian Elliott (mightofthepen) Hi, I'm Lillian. I'm from the USA. I like reading fantasy best, but really any fiction genre. I also like some nonfiction books about personal struggles or war. I love mythology. I found this group when I was searching for reading challenges. My 2016 reading goal is 75 books!

message 454: by Jim (new)

Jim D'Angelo | 1 comments Hello. I'm Jim, from Rochester, NY. I heard about goodreads from watching book videos on YouTube. I like current and classic fiction reading but will sometimes read a non-fiction book. I'm retired so I have much more time to put into reading. I've read 50 books in each of the past two years and hope to read 60 in 2016.

message 455: by Diana (new)

Diana (ravenheart_d) Hi! I'm Diana and I'm from Romania!
I enjoy reading any genre, but mostly fantasy, paranormal and horror books. This year I am planning to read only 55 books, because I've recently moved in Germany so I won't have that much time to read unfortunately. This year I want to start reading some classics. I would love to read some of your recommendations. :)

message 456: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 130 comments Hey everyone I'm Maggie. I'm a mom of three small children so getting time to read that is the real challenge! Right now my goal is to read two hours daily and go from there.

As for favorite genre I'm a sucker for YA and epic fantasy. Trying to broaden my horizons though :)

message 457: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 115 comments Hi everyone, I'm Margaret and I live in Adelaide, South Australia. I am a mum to 2 kids and work full time so my reading time is very precious to me - I like to read everyday.

My goal for 2016 is to read 100 books made up of:
- 40 books from the Popsugar 2016 Reading Challenge
- 40 books that are already on my TBR
- 20 new books added to my TBR this year.

My favourite genres are Romantic Suspense and Historical Romance, but I really want to broaden my reading list. So I have decided to attempt the Popsugar 2016 Reading Challenge! And this is why I have joined this group.

I look forward to seeing what everyone else is reading and making some new Goodreads friends :)

message 458: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kwags) | 1 comments Hi all,
My name is Kristi and I'm from Texas, USA. I love reading pretty much all genres except graphic novels. I teach middle school English so I read a lot of young adult fiction. I also read quite a bit of non fiction with an emphasis on military and WWII. I really enjoy reading several books about an event from different points of view.

message 459: by Marie (new)

Marie Wattier | 4 comments Hi :)
My name is Marie. I'm from southern Alabama in the US. Excited to be heading towards 40 books this year. I read mostly non fiction books on historical or religious topics, but enjoy some fictional thrillers as well. I love to find a book that opens my eyes to different cultures or points of view and love to meet interesting people in the stories I read as well.

message 460: by Jyotir (new)

Jyotir (jyotira) Hello everybody.

I love to read books of various genres, like mystery, thriller, action, adventure, romance, suspense and drama.

I haven't been reading much due to exams coming up but I would like to get good recommendations so that I can read those books when I get free.

Looking forward to a good experience and making new friends too :)

p.s.My reading goal for 2016 is 60 books,at least. I'll complete it...hopefully

message 461: by Tjeerd (last edited Jan 05, 2016 01:30AM) (new)

Tjeerd Hi everyone,

I am Tjeerd from the Netherlands. At the moment I am studying law and philosophy. My reading goal for 2016 is a conservative 30, I might change it to the upside. Last year I started with reading a bit more and my goal became to read the best books written. I would love to join some sort of reading group or have a reading buddy. The last couple of weeks I have read 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Nightingale and the Catcher in the Rye. I actually really enjoyed all of them. Currently I am reading Fight Club. Anyways, happy reading everyone!

Greetings,

Tjeerd

message 462: by Kate Elizabeth (new)

Kate Elizabeth (k_hodgeyyy) Hi, I'm Kate and I'm from England. :)

My favourite genres are YA fantasy and contemporary (polar opposites I know, but sometimes you just need something a little different) but I also really like sci-fi and dystopian.

I set myself a lower reading challenge of 40 books this year because I've found myself neglecting my longer fantasy books in favour of shorter/quicker reads, so I'm hoping to get to more of those this year. I also really want to get more into graphic novels this year, so if anyone has any recommendations for me I would really appreciate it! :D

message 463: by Erin (new)

Erin | 3 comments Hello! I'm Erin from the USA. While I'm not new to Goodreads, I've been a member since 2012, I've never really used the site to keep track of my reading just to find books. This year I decided to get more involved with the site and join some groups.

My goal this year is to read 104 books, 2 books per week. I read a lot of YA as I have an eleven year old daughter that reads at a much higher reading level, so the books need to be screened for content. But my favorite genres are historical fiction, mysteries and horror.

message 464: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Welcome everyone since last time. So many new now!

message 465: by Kiki (new)

Kiki Miranti (kikimiranti) | 108 comments Hello, my name is Kiki and I'm from Indonesia. My favorite genre is romance, so anything romantic in a book I will most likely read. Even so, I still like other genres as long as the stories are interesting.
I mostly read YA, but I have ventured into adult books, specifically adult romances, and they're kind of what made me fall in love with romance books.
Last year, I decided to try out a reading challenge and I had a really fun time, so I decided to participate more this year. Honestly, I don't remember how I found this group but I kept typing "reading challenges 2016" on my search tab and I finally found this group.
My reading goal this year is to read 50 books and I'm already one book ahead of schedule (at least, that's what Goodreads says).

message 466: by Jeana (new)

Jeana Budnick | 228 comments Hello, I just joined.
My name is Jeana, I'm from Canada.
My reading goal for this year is 100 books, though I'd actually like to read more since I made it to 102 last year.
My preferred genres are Fantasy and Urban Fantasy. I don't mind Paranormal Romance but in general I like books with a plot and not just extended and detailed sex scenes. I also like Manga and Graphic Novels though I tend to be pretty picky about my comics.
I don't like non-fiction overly much as I prefer to "escape" into a book instead of reading about the real world. I don't mind YA books as long as they are actually good. Normally I tend to steer away from them as they seem to be everywhere and largely unoriginal.
I look forward to getting to know the people here and finding like minded readers :)

message 467: by CorrieGM (new)

CorrieGM | 36 comments Hi, I am Corrie GM and I live in the Netherlands.
I like to read detectives, region romances, sometimes SF, fantasy, thrillers.
I found the group because in different Facebook groups people talked about the Challenges.
My reading goal is not only to read 52 books, but also different kind of categories. I am still looking for the category challenge.

message 468: by HIleena (new)

HIleena | 3 comments Hello! I'm Hileena, and I'm from the US. I like YA Fiction mostly, as well as mysteries and fantasy, but I'm looking to expand my horizons. I joined my school's book club, which requires you to set up a Goodreads account. So here I am, feeling out the place for myself, and I see 2016 READING CHALLENGE. I'm going to try to read 70 new books and maintain my social life. :P Wish me luck.

message 469: by Cay (new)

Cay | 6 comments Hi. I'm Cay, a Canadian.

I read a lot of YA, Horror, Non-fiction (mostly psychology) books, graphic novels and poetry collections. Hoping to read 60 books this year.

Whatever your reading goal is, good luck to you!

message 470: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 15 comments Hi. I'm Samantha , Zimbabwean . My target for this year is 50 books. I have never read that much in a year, have got tonnes to do in my studies but I believe I can complete the challenge :p My favorite genres are contemporary, thriller/mystery and romance. I am looking towards reading more fantasy this year and something else totally different from my usual reads. Feel free to add me and all the best to everyone on your reading challenges.

message 471: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Welcome to the group, everyone!

message 472: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3 comments Hi. My name is Kim Larson from Prophetstown, IL. I am new to the challenge but wanted to read more in 2016. I used to be in a book club and loved the way it helped me to read out of my comfort zone. I have already read "Ashley Bell" and have started "Picture Perfect". I love suspense/thrillers and anything by Jodi Picoult. Looking forward to being a part of this group!

message 473: by Erika (new)

Erika | 2 comments Hi! I'm Erika and I'm new to goodreads as well as this group! I live in the United States and have been an avid reader from an early age. My favorite genre of books are YA and thriller/suspense. I would love to receive recommendations from you, and would love to be friends!

message 474: by Angelo (new)

Angelo (angelominnm) | 4 comments Hello Everyone,

My name is Angelo and I like all kinds of books....mostly fiction, although some biographies and other non fiction slip through. I thought I would set my goal at 100, because it seems an achievable goal for me. I am a Operating Room RN and am working part time towards my MSN degree. Nice to meet everyone.

message 475: by Cindee (new)

Cindee | 78 comments Hello I am Cindee and I am 25 yrs old and of course I love to read. I am living in Texas in a very small rural town. I love to read YA books of all kinds I hardly read anything else other that Middle Grade books and some romance novels. I was looking up 2016 reading challenges and just happened to look that up here on goodreads. My reading goal is to read as many 2016 reading challenges as I possibly can.

message 476: by Sara (new)

Sara Hello everyone!
My name is Sara, and I am from Norway. I don't really have a favorite genre, I love all kinds of books. Right now I'm reading A Clash of Kings, the second book of A Song of Ice and Fire.

My goal is to read at least 20 books this year.
I love trying out new books and genres so if you have any recommendations I'd love to hear from you :-)

message 477: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey Hey y'all, I'm Lindsey and I live in Florida. I really like reading classics, mysteries, YA fiction, historical fiction, and also anything that can give me a good laugh or cry. I'm also a HUGE fan of reading plays.

Honestly I just found my way to this group through Google when I searched 2016 reading challenge. Now here I am!

My personal goal for the year is 50 books, and since I've started the year with a lot more free time than I'll have in the coming weeks, I've luckily somehow finished three already.

I love getting book recommendations, so lay 'em on me if you've got 'em, and that goes for plays too. :)

message 478: by Melany (new)

Melany (melanythereader) | 2 comments Hello! My name is Melany. I'm from Puerto Rico. I love reading YA and KidLit, adult fantasy and horror, and the occasional memoir. I've technically been in this group since I made my account (an embarrassingly long time ago) and have never been active in anything. This year as part of my re-dedication to reading, I'm hoping that being more active on this website will be a motivator. Officially, my Reading Goal is at 25 books, two per month with one to spare, to keep it realistic, but I hope to double that amount. Reading was once a great passion of mine that I haven't been able to indulge in due to time constraints and emotional availability. Fingers crossed that I can keep on the bandwagon this year!

message 479: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4998 comments Welcome everyone!

message 480: by Moses (new)

Moses (greenteacup) Good day everyone,

I'm Moses. I have been inspired by Mark Zuckerberg this year about his reading goal.

I would like to read more this year, realistically, i will be happy if i can just read 13 books this year (one per month), i am a slow reader. The problem with reading for me is, i don't seems to remember what i have read :S Is that something unique to me, or do you also encounter this? I just hope to read more and be able to retain those knowledge/wisdom...

I prefer nonfiction books, but am open to reading books of any genre to expand my mind.

Best Regards!
Moses

message 481: by Trini (new)

Trini (academiatrinity) Hi :) I'm Trini and I'm from Chile. I love reading YA, but I also read other things. I'm currently very into distopyan, contemporary and sci-fi.
I would love to be friends with you all.
If you can recommend books to me that would be great.
I think that's all I have to say, bye! :)
PS: As I said before, I'm from Chile, and there we speak spanish so I'm sorry if my english is too basic.

message 482: by Emanuella (new)

Emanuella Barcellos Hello, my name is Emanuella, but I prefer to be called Manu. I'm from Brazil, and I love to read almost all kinds of fiction, although it's difficult for me to like some YA books (I'll always try to read before forming an opinion, though).

I joined the group because when I was younger, I used to read many books during the year, and lately I haven't been able to do so. Because of that, I thought that reading challenges would kind of incentive me to go back to reading regularly. So I set my goal at 40, and will do my best to meet it, although I don't know if I'll be able to achieve that :P

Anyway, I'm always happy to receive books recommendations. I'm pleased to meet you all!

message 483: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Vaughn | 9 comments Hello everyone. I am Tiffany. I live in Tennessee. Though I like to experiment at the moment I'm reading a lot of Dystopia, Fantasy, and Sci Fi. I mostly read YA. My favorite is books with strong female leads with a small amount of romance. That actually has a good build up.

I found this group in the bookclub tag. I don't have many friends nearby and was looking for a group on here to get book recs from like-minded people and to try new books since I want to read more.

My reading goal is 250 books. So far I've only read two and am one book behind.

message 484: by Supriya (new)

Supriya Unni (sunsreadinglist) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Supriya and I am from India. I used to read a lot , but my reading time has come down drastically. (No excuse really).
Last year I read 42 books, and this year I'm setting a target of 100 books. I've already read one - Richard Adams Watership Down.
I plan to mix up the Popsugar challenge, the NYPL2016 challenge and (phew) if I am on track, the Around the World challenge to get to my goal. :) I'll be changing the first two a bit to adjust to where I live.
Look forward to meeting fellow book lovers and getting recommendations! :)

message 485: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (mndlynn) | 1 comments Aloha everyone, I'm Amanda from Hawai'i. I really enjoy reading historical fiction and dystopian novels, but I read just about every genre. I've been in a book slump, mainly because I haven't had much time to get through my long "to read" list this past year. I hope to at least read 25 books this year and add many new novels to my favorites list.

On that note, I am always on Goodreads and came across this group while exploring. I love receiving book recommendations and having friends to keep me accountable ;p

Here's to a new year of being a bookworm!

message 486: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Muzzy | 1 comments Kara wrote: "Welcome, new members! Please stop in and introduce yourselves. We're looking forward to getting to know you.

If you don't know where to start, feel free to answer these questions:
- Where are you ..."

My name is Pat and I'm a New Englander that just recently became a Florida resident. I have read literally every day since I could read. I will read on my iPad but so prefer a real book! I love crime novels, suspense and thriller but will occasionally read a chick novel and historical novels.

This sounds fun but a little confusing to get started!

Pat

message 487: by Toni (new)

Toni | 234 comments Hi everyone, I'm Toni. I have been a part of the group for awhile but have not been active in a couple of years so I thought I should reintroduce myself. I have recommitted myself to focus on reading this year and to getting back involved with this group.

I enjoy all types of books but my favorites are mysteries and fiction.

I am planning to read at least 30 books this year. Just tonight finished my very first Russian novel - a genre that always intimidated me.

Looking forward to chatting with all of you.

message 488: by Tran (new)

Tran Linh | 6 comments Hello, my name is Linh, I'm from Vietnam. I found your group when I'm searching for a suitable book club and I'm really excited about this challenge group. My goal is to read a minimum of one book each month.
I enjoy reading classic, fantasy, fiction, dystopia, children... well... I enjoy nearly all genres of book :D
If you have any book recommendations, I'd love to hear from you! Friend request me, as well.
Happy reading!

message 489: by Shaun (new)

Shaun Hi everyone! It's Shaun - glad to join the group and looking forward to this literature adventure with you all. I plan on reading a couple books a month - wish I could read more - so many interesting subjects & stories and never enough time.

And welcome to all of our new members!

message 491: by Benedict (new)

Benedict | 1 comments Hi Readers... My name is Benedict and I am from India.

I started reading books when I hit 45. I struggle to read and tend to consume books in phases. Now with this I want to get on to some systematic reading.
Looking for friends to help me on this.

Looking forward to a great time

message 492: by Oyumergen (new)

Oyumergen | 2 comments Hello y'all! My name is Mika and I'm from Mongolia, but I was born and raised in Poland. I enjoy reading all the genres. I'm new to this site, but I loved it at once. The few past years have been very hectic and I haven't read as much as I used to. The reading challenge has motivated me insanely and even tho I'm senior in high school and will attend university this fall, I set myself a goal to read 50 books. I read already one book, so my pace is pretty good haha (I think). I found this group, because I was wondering what's other people's goal. Looking forward to meeting new bookworm friends! :)

message 493: by Daya (last edited Jan 07, 2016 10:25AM) (new)

Daya Fruhbrodt | 16 comments Hi everyone! My name is Linzie, I come from British Columbia, Canada. I am still in high school, so I love to read YA fiction, and currently I am loving Sci-Fi, and dystopia type books. My reading goal for this year is to read 88+ books. Some of the books that I have come to love are The Lunar Chronicles, The Juliette Chronicles, The Legend Series, The fifth wave series, and Red Queen series. I would love to get some recommendations since I want to explore different genres, and also get new goodreads friends, if possible.

message 494: by Aubrey (new)

Aubrey (aubshale) Greetings!
My name's Aubrey and I plan on reading at least 50 books this year. I read variety and tend to switch between non-fiction and fiction to broaden my palate. Lately, I've been leaning towards sci-fi/speculative/visionary, political junk and historical fiction.
Also looking to add some new friends with similar book interests to share reviews and encourage each other's reading challenge.
Looking forward to this years books!

message 495: by Bridget (new)

Bridget Hi, my name is Bridget and I am from Little Rock, Arkansas. My favorite type of book is adventure and I also love classic romances like Jane Austen. Kady (kadyevans) Hi everyone! Very excited to be here. I'm Kady, and I'm from NYC, New York (originally from Canada). I love to read all sorts of books - very hard to define my style. I'm sure someone with more experience than I could figure it out! Definitely enjoy historical fiction, adventure, and books that force me to think. I've also gotten into non-fiction in the past little while. I'm hoping to read 24 books this year, upping my goal from last year of 15.

message 499: by Veronica (last edited Jan 08, 2016 04:01AM) (new)

Veronica (vonkan) | 7 comments Hi everyone!
I´m Veronica, fron Stockholm in Sweden.
I read a lot of different kinds of genres; scf-fi, fantasy, fiction, non-ficton (history and politics), but mostly I read contemporary fiction and fiction.
I joined this group, cause there seems to be quite free of choice how many books you read. I´m working and I´m studying to be a high school teacher, that means I don´t have as lot of time to read as I used to.
But I love books and I will find my time to read!

My reading goal for the year 2016, is 20 books.
If you like my shelf or any other reason, feel free to add me as a friend :)

Happy reading! :)
