Once I start reading I don't want to put it down but I am slowly reading it on the bus so I do have to put it away. But I'm only on ch3.

I heard good things about this book. You got the citation mechanics down, perfect!

message 859: by Shovelmonkey1 (new)

Shovelmonkey1 Thank you! I did a sort of secret hi-five to myself once i realised i'd managed to do it correctly. Sorry for getting it wrong on the other threads a few days ago!

Stuart Finlay | 24 comments My wife bought me a box of old books for Xmas, someone's old Churchill collection. I have found some real gems which I have posted about. Just started reading Clementine Churchill The Biography of a Marriage by Mary Soames Clementine Churchill: The Biography of a MarriageMary Soames. 200 pages in and absolutely relishing every page. As something of a Churchill admirer I love the intimacy of the letters written daily between them. Especially when he was in the trenches following the Dardanelles. The saying "Behind every great man is a great woman" could have been written specifically for Clementine.
If you like Churchill this is a must.

message 862: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Craig Sounds good Stuart, interesting. Don't forget to add a cover if there is one (and in this case there is):

Alisa (mstaz) I love finishing a book because it means I am ready to start a new one. The hard part is figuring out what to read next! I decided on this ~
The Worst Hard Time The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl by Timothy Egan by Timothy Egan Timothy Egan

message 865: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Craig Alisa-I sometimes have a hard time deciding what I want to read next. I will even start a few books and realize it is not the right fit.

message 866: by 'Aussie Rick' (new)

'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) I have that same problem Bryan! It drives my wife nuts that I have so many un-read books but sometimes can't find anything to read, she just doesn't understand me :)

Bryan Craig 'Aussie Rick' wrote: "I have that same problem Bryan! It drives my wife nuts that I have so many un-read books but sometimes can't find anything to read, she just doesn't understand me :)"

And it is frustrating for me; on occasion, I will grab a magazine for a day just to clear my head and see what inspires me once I "clear my head."

message 869: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (queenravenclaw) well I just read a whole magizine at the store about the royal wedding. I love reading while my mother shops. I was nearly crying because it's so romantic something i didn't know was Kate's engagement ring was Princess Diana's engagement ring which was $45,600 and now its worth 500,000. and it was actually the younger brother's but when he heard that will wanted to finally marry Kate he gave it to the older brother. They secretly engaged in Africa. They both attend the same college together as well and thats all i can remember.

Krystal (queenravenclaw) haha Bentley I wish but i feel it will be on very early 3am my time *gasp* I think. I will be sure to watch it somehow though. I was nearly crying because it's romantic and I am glad she picked West Minister Abbey as she should because the famous kings of England had there Coronation there. and some famous weddings I know Henry VIII had a couple weddings there.

The Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066 and is the final resting place of seventeen monarchs. The present church, begun by Henry III in 1245, is one of the most important Gothic buildings in the country, with the medieval shrine of an Anglo-Saxon saint still at its heart. also find out about weddings, coronations, funerals and burials at the official site below.

Have you ever been to Westminster Abbey; if you get a chance to visit England make sure you go because I think you will love it. It is even more impressive in person.

message 886: by Elizabeth S (last edited Apr 25, 2011 05:00AM) (new)

Elizabeth S (esorenson) | 2011 comments Good attempts, Barbara. You got better with each one!

It looks like you have the book cover part down, but can't get the author to appear. When you click on "add book/author" you get a little dialog box with two tabs, one for book and one for author. Usually when you do a search for a book, if the book you want is the first result, then if you switch to the author tab that author will be listed first. Use the radio buttons at the bottom of the dialog box to choose "photo" and then add the author you want. Then go back into the "add book/author", click the "author" tab, switch the radio button to "link" and add the author again:

To the Loss of the Presidency (Grover Cleveland a Study in Courage, Vol. 1) by Allan Nevins Allan Nevins

Goodreads doesn't have a photo for Allan Nevins, so skip the step for adding his photo. (You can tell whether or not goodreads has a photo when you are in the "add book/author" box with the "author" tab selected. Next to your author's name there is a picture if there is one, or the generic silhouette if there isn't a photo.)

I hope this helps. Let us know if you are still having troubles.

Nice choice. Allan Nevins has written the standard biography. Please let us know how it goes over at the Cleveland thread:

Elizabeth S (esorenson) | 2011 comments By the way, going through all the presidents in order is an ambitious and surely rewarding task. What a magnificent goal. I'm impressed.

message 892: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (barbara55) | 23 comments Yes, it's taking me years, but doing them in order also gives me a built in American history lesson. The biggest issue is finding the right books. I'm sure this group will be helpful with that.

We would be happy to help if you want it, Barbara. Take a look at the presidential reads thread, we are always adding books and you can always ask.

And when you are done, you can write your own book titled something like, "25 Years with 48 Presidents" (Depending on how many years it really takes and how many presidents there are when you finish, of course.)

message 895: by Krystal (new)

Krystal (queenravenclaw) Will this count as reading something

STUDY NOTES lol cuz that's what I should be doing to ensure I have a better mark in all classes but once I'm home I don't feel like reading over notes that I spent hours making. Thinking that i spent time reading the notes from class then putting them in a shorter version. I type the notes so it counts as a reading so i really don't want to read what I have in point form.
