I really like Jodi Picoult, especially her novel: My Sister's Keeper.
Also, the Divergent trilogy.
And, the Beautiful Creatures series.
Read all of these, then ask me for more.

Have you tried Nicholas sparks book? i love all his books but these two here are special !

If you aren't opposed to Adult Contemporary, I recently read , and it brought out a lot of the same emotions that The Fault in Our Stars did.

You should read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I found that book amazing even though some were disappointed by the ending, I really wasn't!!!

Hey! If you're into YA and 'coming of age' type books then Looking For Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta is a really good one! If you don't like that alternatively the same author has a novel 'On the Jellicoe Road' which some people prefer over the first novel.
Also the series of Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter are very good books. I really recommend them :)

If you're looking for a novel like Fault In Our Stars, then 'Alice Bliss' by Laura Harrington is a great one to read. I really love the atmosphere of that novel. Hope this helped :)

If you liked The Fault in our Stars you should read An Abundance of Katherines or Searching For Alaska both by John Green. These are both on my reading list now, some of my students say they are really good as well. Also, The Selection series by Kiera Cass is really good.

Try Ransom Riggs -- Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children & the sequel Hollow City. Also "Liv, Forever" by Amy Talkington.

I really enjoyed The Fault In Our Stars too, and I'm so glad I decided to read it, because I don't usually read contemporary books. I do read a lot of YA fantasy, though, so I can recommend some of that.
1. The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare (and The Mortal Instruments)
2. Harry Potter (if you haven't already read those)
3. And anything written by Libba Bray, because she's awesome.
Aslo, John Green has written a couple of other books that I have not read yet, but I'm sure they're great as well :)

If you enjoyed The Fault in our Stars, then you should read " Home Front " by Kristin Hannah. I am sure you'l love it.

Have you heard of the Time Keeper? I loved that book!

And I agree with the person who suggested David Levithan books. He also collaborated with John Green for one novel (Will Grayson, Will Grayson) and I like the books he wrote together with Rachel Cohn (Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist or Dash & Lily's Book of Dares).

As for your question about Augustus' death ... it's a tough one, because I absolutely didn't expect it and was heartbroken when it happened, but I do believe it added to the emotional impact the book had on me.

As far as book recommendations go:

Stephanie Perkins - Anna and the French Kiss
This book has a great narrative voice, is set in Paris, and every character in the book feels important and like they belong. I just love this book a lot! (It's contemporary but much lighter and happier than Green's novels).

Cassandra Clare - The Infernal Devices Trilogy
I love the characters in these books and the overall arch of the series. It has a love triangle that's done so differently from all other love triangles I've read that it keeps things interesting. It's historical steampunk with urban fantasy elements, if these things interest you. (Nothing like Green's novels.)

Gail Forman - If I Stay
This is becoming a movie this fall. It has a really interesting narrative structure with flash backs and some really fun characters. It deals with heavier topics of life and death, like Green's novels do and you might really like it.

I'll mull it over some more and see if I can think up some other recommendations!
