Okay fine I cried lots of times, you know, during the sad parts! They were good and those songs were good. They touch you.
But the rest of it, the random singing when it wasn't necessary, really bothered me. And I don't know if this is the only reason, but now I feel like I have no interest in the story whatsoever so I don't feel like reading the book, ever.

I can see how it would bother people tho. heh

I made it my summer project to tackle "Les Miserables" a couple years back. It took me over a month to read, as it's a vast story.
I saw the Hugh Jackman version of the film too, and disliked it. I thought I would really enjoy it, as usually I love musicals. I found it hard to pay attention to because every word was sung, Eddie Redmayne did nothing for my view of Marius, and the high-pitched tone of Amanda Seyfried's voice made me cover my ears! On a good note (pun intended!), Anne Hathaway was wonderful as Fantine, and I think Russell Crowe was admirable as Javert. Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen were hilarious as well.

I saw the 2012 one starring Hugh Jackman in the theater. It was wonderful. I wasn't sure how I'd like it (they sing most of the dialogue). It was great, really great.
Still haven't been brave enough to tackle the book yet, although the group has done :D:
