Sorry MHJ, I think I've confused you! As far as I know, her book isn't based on any real world events (so it IS a fiction story), and those two things (the book and Gigante accosting a child) are two separate things.
What I meant about her book (Iced) and how it features the 14 y/o protagonist was in response to that person's comment saying she wouldn't support someone like that guy who pleaded guilty, were he truly guilty.

I would be up for adding this into the trigger warning thread or making a separate thread for it because there's definitely behavior that you don't want to support. That said though, we'd probably have to be cautious about it because authors questionable behavior is what caused Goodreads to delete people's shelves and reviews that mentioned it.
