It could be loosely construed as a vacation. I think it would also fit (and perhaps better) for a pilgrimage. There's a task for that.

Maybe Breakfast with Buddha?

Works for "where the main character spends a lot of time on the road" also.

Thanks for the list, that helped a lot! So just to make sure I'd be good with at least one of these?
The Scarlet Letter
Pope Joan
Agnes of God
At Home in Mitford

Sorry to be a pain, but if you can't tell, I'm kind of obsessing about this right now, lol.

Lisa wrote: "I could use a bit of help. Does anybody know any books with the word 'Scarab' in either the title or subtitle?"

The Clockwork Scarab byColleen Gleason A book about a girl who is the niece of Sherlock Holmes.

Sarah wrote: "I'm also looking for books about fossils. Would Jurassic Park also work for this? Or The Lost World? Any other ideas?"

Plaza: An Archaeological Thriller by Shane M. Brown might deal with fossils. It is an archeological thriller that has been on my TBR for awhile.

Yes those 4 books will work. I just finished Pope Joan. It's quite good. Agnes of God would be perfect.

After reading some of the reviews, it looks like it does involve the tower. Star lake is transporting a prisoner there. He himself is threatened as a prisoner. Maybe Lisa or Tasha could confirm since they have both read it.

Yes, the Tower of London does appear in Sovereign. A fair chunk of the book takes place in the city of York but the Tower makes an appearance later on.

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments I haven't started the series so was just looking to see what task the first book might fit.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Janice wrote: "I haven't started the series so was just looking to see what task the first book might fit."

It would fit 'a book set in England' task. I seem to remember the River Thames appearing briefly so it might fit the 'significant river' task if that's enough of an appearance to count. It's also set largely in a monastery and a shrine or shrines appear on a couple of occasions so it might also fit the 'shrine' task.

message 166: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments @Lori, My pick for "devout character" was Gilead. It's a re-read for me, so I can say for sure that the MC is a devout character. If you have already read it, the other 2 books in the series could work too.

Janice (jamasc) | 59851 comments Here's one for fossils - Mountains of Madness:: A Scientist's Odyssey in Antarctica. I was looking at it for mountain vacations and it's more a search for a fossil. Non-fiction Set in Antarctica

message 168: by CFDeeDee (last edited Dec 05, 2015 01:20PM) (new)

CFDeeDee I just set my sites
It took me a lot of work .. And yet not sure if my choices are good or not !
But sure now I have a good reason to buy more books :P

And yet need help in books set in Chile, Netherland, France, Afghanistan, Mali, and Papua New Guinea.

One set in a university "Already read Fangirl"
One about caves

Any good recommended title would be great :D

message 169: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Suzanne - nope, I don't think so. I've read them all and don't recall any mention of Victoria Falls.

Rex Stout wrote a book where Nero Wolf and Archie go to the Maldives and climb up into the mountains to a cave where some bad guys were. It was not a vacation though, more of a pilgrimage. I think it was called The Black Mountains.

I swear, all I have are are tragedies that occurred in the mountains, no vacations at all!

message 170: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments @CfDeeDee - check out the website http://www.bookssetin.com/ for some ideas on the books set in those countries. There are bound to be some. Off the top of my head, for Afghanistan, anything by Khaled Hosseini; The Miniaturist is set in the Netherlands; the Chocolat series for France.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11257 comments Right.

Thanks for the recommendation, Sandra. I haven't read it but it sounds good, I'm adding it to my tbr pile. I don't know if I'll use it for the challenge but I do want to read it.

That's your job : )

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments You think it's a wolf, Cherie? Or a gargoyle (statue tasks)? Setting says it's Italian.

A good 5 options there for you if it's not red enough.

ROFL! I think my Italy task is full. I will have to think about where I will add it. I think it may have to sit on my book shelf for another year.

I would like it to be a wolf, but I don't think so. I have a book for the "wildlife" task, with an Elk on it.

No, I wasn't exactly asking Janice. I was hoping someone else would come up with something. bummer.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments If anyone needs any more ideas for the 'painting' task, The Girl You Left Behind sounds like it will fit. One of the characters is an artist and a portrait he paints plays an important part in the story. I think it's the catalyst for many of the things that happen within the book.

Yeah I was more leaning to the gargoyle than a wolf. Brazil or Greece then.
