Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Hi Tammy!

I have not read any of them, but those two short stories collections are in my TBR. Both of them are by Anthony Doerr, the author of All the Light We Cannot See. I hope it helps.

The Shell Collector by Anthony Doerr Memory Wall by Anthony Doerr

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments There are some books on this list that would fit the bill, Tammy. I have read Remarkable Creatures and quite enjoyed it.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Can't link in the app, but another one is On Folly Beach. I have it on my tbr but not read it.

There's The Shell Collector - it's a collection of short stories not one story. I haven't read it but it's on my TBR list...

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am currently reading The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert for Hawaii, and Kristie just asked me how I am liking it.

I am enjoying it very much! I am reading it for Hawaii - for the coconut cake on the cover, but I just looked up all of the other tasks that it could be used for. It could be used for the food task in Quebec. Louella's is a French food restaurant in Milwaukee - though this might be the weakest place that it could fit. It could work for Ecuador where the MC is a cook or baker. She is both. It could work for the food task in Morocco too. They are definitely talking about food!

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments I am still here, chip, chip, chipping away at the 222 books......I have a problem! There are a few cases where I have found a book I would like to read and then - it's not available, library doesn't have, out of print etc OR I can't get the edition with the specific thing on it - the dratted rainbow is one of these! I finally solved the Sun on the cover by reading The Sun: A Biography after having to change my plans 4 previous times!

I know it's not an official challenge but I am trying to do it in the spirit of the challenge - any suggestions? Might I be permitted a non-real rainbow if all else fails, for instance?

message 759: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19131 comments Deborah - I know you are looking for an official ruling, but I thought maybe this would help. Some of the rainbow covers we've seen on this thread before were:
Tasmanian Rainbow by Pinkie Paranya The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum The Gate to Women's Country by Sheri S. Tepper The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson Winning Marriage The Inside Story of How Same-Sex Couples Took on the Politicians and Pundits--And Won by Marc Solomon The Night Rainbow by Claire King Rainbow's End by Irene Hannon Capture The Rainbow (Sedikhan, #4) by Iris Johansen

Some of those may still need a ruling, but they look pretty good to me. There may be more on this Rainbow Book Covers! list too, but some of them have the colors, not an actual rainbow. Hope that helps a bit.

message 760: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments Janice said it has to be a real rainbow. Every real rainbow I have tracked down has turned out to be either totally unobtainable, edition unavailable - or more expensive than a read for a challenge is worth! Thanks for the above, I have read at least 3 books this year with a similar cover - but no 'real' rainbows!

message 761: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments If you are trying to read all the books as a personal challenge, make your own rules. But, if you plan on counting the book(s) for a badge, then no. You need to adhere to the rules. Others are reading books with rainbows, and it wouldn't be fair to them to change the rules now.

message 762: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments I have tried and tried but can't get them, that's the only reason I asked. As I said, I am still trying to do it in the spirit of the challenge. As you know, I completed the challenge itself ages ago.

It wasn't a request for a rule change. Just an attempt to discuss the problem I am having. I guess my little quest is just silly.

message 763: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Deborah, do you know bookfinder.com? I often look there for second hand books and books that are a few years old are often only €3 including shipping. Maybe it's even cheaper if you live in the uk or us.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19203 comments Ooo that looks interesting Peggy. Looks like the booko site we have over here in Aus and NZ. Deborah, if you don't know of booko, that may help you too (and if not, yay more book sites!). The NZ link is https://booko.co.nz/

I always click through it to find the right covers or editions for my purposes.

According to my records, you've completed the challenge and the "all-continents" sweep. You could still acquire the "all-sites sweep", which is a minimum of one task from each site. It sounds like you are trying to read all tasks, for which there isn't a badge.

If you are going for the "all-sites sweep", you may have to substitute a different task.

If you're doing your own thing, (like reading all the tasks) why do my rules matter?

message 766: by Deborah (last edited Oct 06, 2016 03:40PM) (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments I can find suitable books but cannot obtain copies, sometimes out of print, some the library system doesn't have, some I can't get the specific edition that, for instance, has a rainbow on the cover.

Yes, Janice, I am doing that and not for a badge - but still want to do it in the spirit of the challenge. I guess I'll just have to work to the best I can do for my own quest. I may have completed the all sites sweep - I will check. :P You are quite right, I am being needlessly pernickety in doing that by trying to follow the rules exactly.

message 767: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments Yes, I have done at least one task from every site - how should I report that?

Mariab | 3059 comments Deborah wrote: ":P You are quite right, I am being needlessly pernickety in doing that by trying to follow the rules exactly..."

Well, me to; I'm trying to accomplish the one task from every site, by collecting only souvenirs, that is the 3rd. task only. And I'm following truly the rules nonetheless

message 769: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments Deborah wrote: "Yes, I have done at least one task from every site - how should I report that?"

Report it in the reporting thread. I don't think it's necessary to list them all. You can just refer to your challenge thread.

I'll give you your badge now because I'm leaving in the morning for the weekend and I want to make sure I don't miss it.

I really liked that book. I listened to it on a train. It was really touching and nothing like what I normally read. It was a hidden gem to me.

I agree, Jannene. It was a terrific find and I would probably not have come across it, if I had not been searching for Geo books.

message 773: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Pickstone | 529 comments Thanks, Janice.......enjoy whatever you're off to do!

Jannene and Cherie - have just added those 2 last mentioned books to my TBR - I find Cherie never steers me wrong where the book fits one of my preferred genres; she has some I don't prefer :)
