I've started reading The Traitor which is interesting. It annoys me that to link it, I have to use the US title as it doesn't come up otherwise. It just assumes I know it!
I just finished Die Elfen (review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...).Now I think I will continue with this month's group read Uprooted,
since I've wanted to read this book for a long time :)
I need Gitagovinda of Jayadeva: Love Song of the Dark Lord for university, so I´m reading this at the moment. It needs all my attention and interpretation so I can´t read anything sidewise
I'm reading, "The High Crusade," by Poul Anderson. Not the first time, but I liked a lot the first time, and it's been a long time since then.
I finished Black Powder War last night, which was excellent. :)And now I'm reading Shadows of Self. After that I've got a roster of other books I'd like to get to such as Envy of Angels, The Death of Dulgath (when it arrives) and A Dance with Dragons. That should carry me far for the beginning of the new year.
Finished Lords of the Sith and am continuing the Star Wars theme with Dark Disciple by Christie Golden.
Ghost in the Forge; the Ghost series is lots of fun. And Ash and Silver by Carol Berg, probably my all-time favorite author.
I recently read The Curse of Chalion and loved it, but the second book of the trilogy, Paladin of Souls, was underwhelming. Is the third book, The Hallowed Hunt, as good as the first book? And what about the author's other series? Would you recommend them?
Femmy wrote: "I recently read The Curse of Chalion and loved it, but the second book of the trilogy, Paladin of Souls, was underwhelming. I'm still reading Malice and taking my time with it, plus Warhost of Vastmark for the group discussion. I'm also continuing with my periodic re-read of the Harry Potter series, which somehow I always feel compelled to do in winter. It's The Lord of the Rings in autumn, and Harry Potter in winter! :D
I associate Potter with winter. I think it's because that's when the films were mainly out, or is that my imagination?
Well....they all go home for summer break.Winter is when school is in session.
Lots of snow shots, too.
Bruce wrote: "I'm reading, "The High Crusade," by Poul Anderson. Not the first time, but I liked a lot the first time, and it's been a long time since then."I liked The High Crusade too! I mean, medieval men and aliens! It was such fun!
I loved The Traitor Baru Cormorant (I read the UK version btw), hope you're liking it Helen!
Currently cherishing the group discussion for Warhost of Vastmark and reading Robin Hobb The Liveship Traders Trilogy (liveships as in alive ships, now that's intriguing).
Here it's almost snowing :) I'm so looking forward to the Christmas break, so I can focus on reading.
I'm also going to listen to the Harry Potter audiobooks for Christmas. To me it just has that Christmas feel. I know there's barely anything to do with it but Jim Dale's voice also makes it Christmas-y
And I definitely get the Lord of the Rings in autumn thing. Something about the Shire, all the changes happening metaphorically, and even the scenery in the movies seemed like fall
Margret wrote: "And I definitely get the Lord of the Rings in autumn thing. Something about the Shire, all the changes happening metaphorically, and even the scenery in the movies seemed like fall"I think that if you check the timeline, both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings start in September.
I just finished reading The Unbecoming of Jonathan Jones. Really liked the originality of the writer. Romance, mental illness, loneliness - not what I expected from a superhero story. Highly recommend it.
I'm reading Uprooted and listening to 1984 (from the million+ ratings it feels like I'm the only one who has never read this one)..
I'm currently re-reading She Who Waits, its taking up all my spare time, and then I'll be getting into The Goblin Emperor.
Tara wrote: "I'm reading Uprooted and listening to 1984 (from the million+ ratings it feels like I'm the only one who has never read this one).."No, you're not the only one.
Yesterday I finished Uprooted, fantastic book. Now on to Clean Sweep, my first Ilona Andrews read ever.
I'm so fed up of the Traitor! It isn't grabbing me at all, I'm literally reading it to finish now.

I don't know! I've been trying to work out why I don't like it all day. I don't think I like Baru.

Read Queen of Fire by Anthony Ryan, Dragonfly in Amber (DNF), and a couple graphic novels. Currently reading A Little Life (contemporary fiction) which is grabbing me despite being not my main genre
And on to Chuck Wendig's Aftermath, which I will probably finish before I see The Force Awakens one week from tomorrow (Thursday) night.
I've just started Touch of Power, which I've been meaning to read for ages. A little bit underwhelming to start with, but it's growing on me.
I intend to read Kingsteel and The Sacred Band this month, as far as fantasy goes, but I also have a political book, a book of poetry, and Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine to read. The last is one that's taking me quite a while because it's so good I can only handle it in small amounts. I get overwhelmed!
Emily wrote: "I intend to read Kingsteel and The Sacred Band this month, as far as fantasy goes, but I also have a political book, a book of poetry, and Ray Bradbury's [book:Dande..."It occurs to me that I never did read that third Acacia book ...
I just bought it last month and haven't had a chance to read it. David Anthony Durham was one of my professors in graduate school, and I'm super behind on reading his series!
Emily wrote: "I just bought it last month and haven't had a chance to read it. David Anthony Durham was one of my professors in graduate school, and I'm super behind on reading his series!"Cool! I read the first two books years ago, really enjoyed them, and then just haven't quite gotten around to #3. Someday.
Joseph wrote: "Cool! I read the first two books years ago, really enjoyed them, and then just haven't quite gotten around to #3. Someday."Someday is most of the books on my list! In fact, I still need to read Remembering: Book Three of the Meq, and I read the first two years back.

I'm sorry to hear that! But I probably liked it because of the very opposite reason.
Just finished another Bernard Cornweel book The Burning Land. I know it's not really fantasy but they are soooo addictive. Just started Finnglas of the Horses. A really short young adult fantasy that's very good so far.
I'm reading Wings of Sorrow and Bone: A Clockwork Dagger Novella (a steampunk novella) and then A Darker Shade of Magic
I am reading some old favorurites, and new ones, but none are fantasy so I'm not sure if I'm allowed fo list them here.
Wolfrott wrote: "I am reading some old favorurites, and new ones, but none are fantasy so I'm not sure if I'm allowed fo list them here."List away! I've never let that stop me, and I'm always interested to see what other folks are reading regardless of genre.
Just finished Finnglas of the Horses. This was a very short read but there was a lot of action and adventure crammed into this delightful tale. There were two things I did not like about this book. 1) The flippant way the emotions of a crowd could change like a light switch. It kind of made the story seem absurd. 2) The writing at times was poor and it made the story a little hard to follow. Other than that it was a good story. With that being said I believe I'm going to start The Scar by Marina Dyachenko.
I'm trying not to start any new books this year, since I have five books that I need to finish before the year ends and some of them have been on my currently-reading shelf for a way too long of a time. These are the books I'm currently reading and try to finish before the year ends:Homeland by R.A. Salvatore (the book that has been on my CR-pile the longest)
The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie
Huumeasema Zoo (Zoo Station: The story of Christiane F.) by Christiane F.
Hämärän vartija (A Scanner Darkly) by Philip K. Dick
Viimeinen yksisarvinen (The Last Unicorn) by Peter S. Beagle
