Dialogue in "Crenshaw"

In English class, we are talking about Dialogue. Dialogue is when a character reveals themselves through speaking. The character's personality is determined by 1. how they say the statement, and 2. what they actually say in the statement.
In "Crenshaw" by Katherine Applegate, dialogue is a key component. The reason why it is important is because it displays the struggles that Jackson's family is going through, and their feelings as a result of it.
An example of dialogue in this book is on page 136 when the author writes, "I'd feel hopeful then, for a while at least, that things would get better, that maybe, just maybe, anything was possible." This quote shows that Jackson is a positive character, and is trying to stay hopeful, even in the worst of times.
To conclude, dialogue in "Crenshaw" is a major facter that affects a readers perception of a character.
