Wow. That was rather intense.

Argh, now I'm behind again, and today is a busy day.... I'll catch up again soon, I hope!

No worries. I'm trying to sort it out in my head.

I love all of this philosophizing about history and the philosophy of history that takes place in this section. Philosophy of history is one of the subjects that I wanted to look into this year. (I mean 2016) I might want to come back to Chapter 4 once I've done that.

Also, referring back to our discussion of the depiction of religion in one of the earlier threads, I think this quote illustrates what I had said there quite well :

"They were lonely and screaming out for company, or for something to keep out the darkness. Even a crackpot theory is better than no theory at all. Than nobody. Than an abyss. "

Another quote that relates back to our religion discussion:
"Given the presence of members of over one hundred contradictory religions and cults in the city, what prevents occurrences of holy war?

I might not have paid attention and missed previous references, but this is the first reference to so many religions and cults that I've picked up.

I think I had the impression going in, from COSAM (due to the descriptions of the religious quarter there and several entries in the glossary), that Ambergris is a very multi-faith kind of place.

Ah-ha! I admit that I had not given those the attention they probably deserve. Will have a look at them soon. :)
