Jorge Garcia | 4 comments This book is a fantasy book. A coming of age story. Can't remember the name or author. Only remember the plot. I can't clearly remember the magic system in this book but for some reason they (the king, schools, authority) are covering up that magic can be used to harm people. The boy gets kicked out of the monastery because he gets in a fight with a noble boy(who is a great with sword) and almost kills him. The noble boy was getting jealous that he was talking to his sister. The monastery is on a secluded island so they get a boat to transport him to this big city. On the ship he meets this girl who he will later fall in love with and the girl will love him as well. The girl is ashamed that her mother was a prostitute/whore but understood that she did it to keep her feed. With the money she saved up by working with the ship captain (who is female) she plans to start here own business.

Long story short the main character is very gifted with the magic of the world and even creates this mechanical leopard from using his knowledge on magic and how a watch works from this clockmaker he made a deal with. At the end of the book a foreign nation invades the city he lives in and he runs away with his girlfriend, this creepy store guys who lures unsuspecting magic students then cuts them up in his basement and sucks there magical power away.

Anyway also include in this story are things who are not human who were created in the ancient empire that got destroyed. These things can (cant remember) take over peoples bodies. I remember that there are 2 factions. One faction want to live with the humans and the other factions sees humans as nothing more than cattle. I remember the second faction take over a town, slaughter all the males, collect all the women and tie them to beds by the ankle and arms in big barn house, then using males rape the women repeatedly so they can have children nonstop. Then using those children, they either make more of themselves and/or transfer to a new host so that they will never die. Be immortal.

That is most of the story in a nutshell. This is the first book of what I imagined is going to be a trilogy and I can't remember the name of the book. Maybe one of you guys have read it before.

Jorge Garcia | 4 comments A little bit more detail. Usually applicants to join the magic guild (i think this is the name of the place people go to this world magic) do so young. But since he impressed his interviewer by creating this box made of folded paper which he couldn't open or crush with his hands he got in. This means his older than the other students in his classes. His sword fighting skill impressed the guards so he got accepted into this elite group of guards at the school.

Michele | 2488 comments The Name of the Wind perhaps? Matches on several points, though I don't recall the paper box.

Jorge Garcia | 4 comments Not "The Name of the Wind". I think this is not a main stream book. Maybe a kindle exclusive from a small author. Can't remember. Similar to the The Name of the Wind in that it's a coming of age story. The difference between this and the "The Name of the Wind" is that the main character towards the end of the book becomes more like a "MAGIC ENGINEER" as seen from him making this mechanical lion using his knowledge of Magic + Mechanical parts from what the watch maker taught him. In "The Name of the Wind" the protagonist learns powerful magic in the form of a true name. In this case the word for wind. Also the protagonist travels alot in that book while in MY BOOK the guy was in a secluded island with some monks & then the city with the mages guild. Those are the only 2 places he ever goes to.

Michele | 2488 comments Clockwork Angels, maybe? The Watchmaker is the villain in that one, though, so maybe not.

Jorge Garcia | 4 comments Guys a little bit over a year later I finally found the identity of the book. It seems to have gone mainstream, since I found the books identity by listening to its audio-book that audible recommended to me. The name of the book is:

A Crucible of Souls by Mitchell Hogan

Book 1 of the Sorcery Ascendant Sequence

Also guess what. The second book is out and also available in audible form. Life is good!
