Wow - scary and sobering. If corporations are "people" in terms of deserving all of the same legal rights, why don't they have any of the moral responsibilities we impose on flesh-and-blood human beings in our society?

If corporations have no responsibility other than to "maximize shareholder value," and they're "people," then it seems like far too many of them are sociopaths. :-(

We really have to do something about that Supreme Court decision as well. There's an effort underway to get a constitutional amendment.

James Inhofe is such a joke. He wouldn't know science if it hit him in the face. Voters really need to wake up to these problems. But how does one reach the average voter in Oklahoma, for instance, where Inhofe resides?

I'm certainly not implying that this is the answer in and of itself... but I support the Union of Concerned Scientists due to their ongoing efforts to exert pressure and influence inside the beltway in D.C., as well as to educate Americans in general on issues of scientific significance like climate change.

I don't think there are any easy answers to the "politicization" of science in the U.S., but organizations like the Union of Concerned Scientists are certainly fighting the good fight. I actually blogged on this topic as well, for those who are interested:
